Last Hope || Meeka & Addy

Addy squatted by a tree tiredly, 10K laying near by. The sound of rushing water had called Roberta Warren off to seek the source. It was a rare noise these days, and everyone hoped it wasn’t some sort of collective hallucination. Vasquez had stayed behind, keeping a trained eye on Murphy to make sure his dumbass didn’t runaway again - or get kidnapped by another zombie crazed psycho who wanted to essentially hang him from the wall. He really was a slippery bastard.  

Doc grumbled something, but became more alert when a slow moving Z wondered into the breezy patch of forest. 10K lazily took him out with a single shot from his sling, and things immediately went back to just waiting for Warren. 

When she came back, it was with their little plastic canister sloshing with water and a knowledgable furrow in her brow. 

“I’ve found something you guys are gonna wanna see.” She announced plainly, passing the canister to Addy first. 

Addy climbed up, taking small sips before sending the canister down the line. “What is it?” She started.

“The water - it was given to me. By people. Real people in a real sanctuary that doesn't take your weapons or eat people -” Addy cringed at Roberta’s reference to their run in with the cannibals “- or kill their boys,” Another cringe from Addy. “Real, sane, safe people. They have food.” 

“And they won’t try and kill us?” 10K asked, standing. 

“Let’s find out.” Doc added, brushing past the lanky teen.

Murphy seemed offended that no one consulted him, but Addy’s quick glare shut him up as they followed their leader through the heavy Washington brush. Part of Addy ached - she’d been in Washington on day one, but after killing her mother, she and Mack made a mad dash and made it to New York before the worst of it. Funny to think about how back then, New York had been a safe haven, but now it’s a complete No-Go Zone. 

They walked for a mile or two, piking only one Z who was just trying to make it to the warmer south the entire time, before the tall gates of the sanctuary came into view. Someone was clearly waiting for them, probably from talking to Roberta. 

Addy followed closely to her lieutenant - as the right hand man did, Vasquez and the rest not far behind. 

“Is this it?” Addy looked up in awe, the same safe feeling she’d had with the Sisters of Mercy returning.
