Would you say this one is more spuhura-y? Seems like it this author gets it, judging by the quotes you’ve posted from this book

@sudata7 both books have cute moments for Spock and Uhura and their relationship. The Unsettling Stars has more playful/flirty moments, while this book (”More Beautiful Than Death”) is more serious in tone. The main difference is that the author of this book might get the uniqueness of kelvin trek characters and thus this reality slightly better and he seems a bit more inspired in that sense. The first book is more or less like a tos book where the characters are like tos and if it weren’t for things like spock/uhura, you wouldn’t exactly realize this story takes place in the kelvin trek reality. The second book is a story that can only make sense in kelvin trek.  It’s hard to explain what gives the second a more kelvin trek vibe because sometimes it’s subtle. When I read, I picture Quinto&co.. like, there is a scene where Spock is changing clothes in his quarters while he’s talking with Uhura and he’s just.. Quinto Spock. Kelvin Spock has an edge to him that is different from tos Spock, and this is in large part also due to the fact that kelvin Spock was made more a co-protagonist than being mostly Kirk’s sidekick. There is a definite feeling that his own story as an individual does matter in an equal measure. In terms of his relationship with Uhura, in the first book they are super flirty and even mischievous! But he still sounds like tos Spock (or like tos Spock would if he were into a relationship) while in this book Spock is more.. unapologetically in love. He takes no sh*t.  More than that, he’s unapologetically BOTH human and vulcan. He has no desire to pretend he isn’t human too or he has no feelings, which is fully consistent with his portrayal and character arc in kelvin trek that is more contemporary.  In the end, I’d recommend both because they both have their merits and it’s nice to (finally) have more kelvin trek books outside of those about the academy.

Thank you so much @lucystillintheskywithdiamonds. From the snippets, I felt like the other book seemed more of an old fashioned view of Spock so it must be that he reminds me of Nimoy-Spock. Much as I love him, I’m definitely needing some Kelvin Spock and Uhura right now so I’m getting More Beautiful Than Death asap. Your description sounds like it’s right up my street.
