Alright *cracks fingers* let’s do this. Johnny has been haunting my brain ever since I came up with my “I am still alive” au. And I haven’t been able to think of a good plot to write about this man.
I find it funny that your Johnny and mine are the complete opposites. One could say mine is the evil Johnny lol.
Anyways here’s my interpretation of Johnny:
He’s a reckless idiot who cares deeply for his friends. Johnny is a very shoot first ask questions later type of guy, who will run head first into conflict if he believes his friends are in danger. He would also hide a body for them.
Johnny also hates appearing incompetent or God forbid weak. So, he’s very secretive of his problems. He’s the helper. There’s nothing wrong with him! That does mean Rupert and Dave don’t know any of Johnny’s baggage until it’s too late.
Johnny has hemophilia, which prevented him joining the military, and preventing him from following his father’s footsteps. They were pretty ableist about it to, and Johnny spent a week in his room crying. Rupert was the one who got him out of there and suggest he become a police officer. To avoid a repeat from last time, Johnny lied on his medical record about having it. He also has moments where he refuses to take his medicine because it reminds him of his hemophilia and therefore makes him feel weak. (This totally didn’t bite him in the butt in IoaS. Totally not).
Johnny also has undiagnosed bpd. Which may have developed due to Johnny being alone for most of his childhood due to his father always out on missions. He was also born from a cheating, which is why his mom wasn’t in the picture. Johnny hates his mother and keeps flip-flopping between being resentful of his father and wanting him close.
Johnny and Rupert have been best friends since high school. Although he denies it, he does prefer Rupert over Dave. That doesn’t mean he wouldn’t hide a body for Dave, it means if he was forced to pick between the two, Johnny would pick Rupert first then try to go save Dave.
Speaking of his relationship with Dave, Johnny didn’t actually like Dave at first, when first Dave joined the trio. Didn’t like how Dave and Rupert hit it off. But after Johnny’s father just spelled out to Johnny that he was jealous that he was no longer Rupert’s only friend, that was when Johnny took a chance to actually try to befriend Dave, which is how Dave and Johnny became best friends. (Dave also clocked in Johnny’s bpd and thought Johnny was rude to him due to Rupert being his favorite person, which… he isn’t wrong)
Depending on the timeline, Johnny’s opinion of Charles is either a good friend or someone to distrust. The factor is whether or not Charles is friends with Henry, as Johnny HATES Henry for what he did to his friends. (He also dislikes Ellie for the same reason plus criminal. As a platonic RosePrice fan, Johnny’s screaming in the distance). Funny enough, Charles becomes best friend status in TCW. (It’s them war bonds).
In timelines where Dave and Thomas become friends, Johnny and Thomas have an intense rivalry as they both think the other is bad for Dave.
