Mulder wanted a pet after Scully left so instead of going to a shelter like a reasonable person, he took in the raccoon living under his porch and treated it like a cat.

This guide was originally created in an effort to help everyone get up to speed on the show before The X-Files revival aired in January, 2016. With the revival officially behind us (and more episodes likely on the way), the show continues to grab new audiences who probably look at 208 episodes - and two movies - and think that it’s entirely too much to jump into.

This guide condenses this huge show into something a little more manageable for people who want the experience of The X-Files but without the huge time commitment. This is a guide of the absolutely essential episodes that are necessary to the understanding of a show that can be so many things all at once.

These are not necessarily my favorites, or even the fandom favorites. I’ve included a list of those, though, at the bottom. I’ve also included a list of the most MSR-centric moments for those of you who are primarily interested in the relationship.
