And no matter what the President calls us, weâre still human beings.
America doesnât listen to peaceful protests. I know this because when folks dared take a knee, America lost its shit. This is a verifiable fact.
Do not take this moment to attempt to police the emotions and outraged actions of communities who have been in pain and begging for years to be heard. Screaming for more of you to step up and speak out. But those cries were met with complaints that you were being inconvenienced when a road was shut down. When a protest interrupted your Brunch. Weâve had to read myriad articles about how white folks feel like theyâre not being heard, how theyâre being treated poorly simply because they arenât being actively centered for 2 seconds.
Weâre being murdered in the streets.
I caught a lot of shit in 2016 because I wanted to hear a comprehensive plan to address police brutality. Not ideas. A specific, actionable plan. That was deemed too much of an ask. And here we are still dying in the streets and some of yâall wonder why Minneapolis is burning?
A lot of yâall thought cameras would save us. In 2014 I said numerous times âCameras...only work if when you look at the footage you see a human and not an animal.â At this point the amount of footage of Black folks being killed is astronomical.
And yet itâs still happening. And many are still explaining why it was okay that we were murdered.
We canât drive, walk, jog, stand, sit in our own gatdamb house with a significant other, watching a movie eating ice cream without the possibility of being murdered by the state in cold blood.
Property damage cannot be weighed higher than human life. This may seem extreme but I know a lot of folks who would agree:

You canât over-police communities, deny them resources, blame them for all the ills of society and expect them to keep a stiff upper lip and keep on participating in society like nice little second class citizens.
