She's a forensic scientist/part of the crime scene clean up crew because the facility she works at is severely understaffed. While she hasn't worked on any cases involving alternates, she's seen first hand the damage they've done and ultimately it's the police departments handling—or more so lack there of—that pushes her to quit her job. She initially joined BPS as a favor to Sarah. They really didn't know each other in highschool but when Lydia moved from Staten Island to Wisconsin, Sarah was the first person to show her around. They're not best friends by any means but they get along well. There might be some one-sided tension between them at first because of Lydia's involvement with the MCPD but Lydia tries her best to assure her that she was against the way the handled things. Their relationship is more business oriented but they still care for each other very much. Sarah finds her to be more sensible company—after Sarah gets over her initial grudge. This does not mean Lydia is perfect however, she's got a bunch of skeletons in her closet. She's huanted by the things she's seen but refuses to open up about it because all of her life, she's been so used to bottling it up. She's not nihilistic by any means, she very much still tries to see the beauty in everything.
She was the eldest daughter and an older sister but her family passed away one night from a gas leak while she was doing an overnight at the lab she had an internship at in Staten Island. Her uncle, who was from Bythorne, picked her up the very next day. She's chill with Jonah and sympathizes with him, he makes her laugh and that's really the only thing she needs right now. With Adam, it's a little complicated. She's usually down for whatever until it's something that could actually put them at risk and then she usually puts her foot down. She often tries to compromise with him. She honestly relates to him a lot (they're both orphans basically/j) and ultimately she wants to understand him more. It's the scientist in her. She wants to crack open his skull and poke and prod at his brain. Considering Adam had multiple girlfriends in the past (like, two, but I digress—) I think he'd definitely have some sort of attraction towards her. (He thinks she's fine shyt/j)
Some general headcanons :)
-She's big into comics and games like MTG and Catan. She also enjoys card games like poker and go fish. Her daddy was a gambler.
-She's been electrocuted more than one, hence the nasty scars on the right side of her body. Growing up, her father often neglected the house they lived in. He was a tired man who worked day in and day out at a autoshop. The house they lived had seen better days. With faded wall paper, asbestos in the ceiling panels and faulting wiring and plumbing. Her father often let her take care of any house hold issues they had—telling her that she needed to be prepared for the "real world." The accident happened when she was fifteen.
-Her little brother was named Stevie (Steven Micheal Duvall) Lydia watched over him while their dad was at work. She wasn't a perfect older sister. She'd tease him and try to scare him for her own entertainment but she loved him to death. She promised him that they'd see the Grand Canyon together once she had enough money to get them out of that shitty little house. They never got to see it together.
-Lydia doesn't talk about her family with Adam or Jonah. She's like her father—uncomfortable when it comes to talking about her feelings. They really don't know her all that well aside from what she let's them see. She dosen't sulk or cry about what happened, but it does keep her up all night.
-She prefers not to think about their current situation. She thinks dwelling on it and being upset over things that are out of their control is a waste of energy. She's often in her own little world, day dreaming about the Grand Canyon or being in Superman's shoes.
-Lydia has shit taste in music and movies. Adam and Jonah will audible groan whenever it's her turn on the aux.
-Because of her background in working in crime scene clean up, she often wears gloves and a mask whenever they're out investigating someone's house. The guys think it's overkill but you never know what could be inside of someone's house.
-She's really intelligent, both intellectually and emotionally but good god can she be stupid sometimes. She dissociates often, which isn't her fault but there are times where she misses crucial details of a case because she was screwing around with Jonah or purposely ruffling Adam's feathers. -Her mom died when she was really little so Lydia never had a female role model to look up to. She feels more like a guy a lot of the time because of her mannerisms and the way she dresses. It used to bother her when she was in her pre-teens but she's comfortable in her own skin now that she's older and has more of a grasp on who she really is. She detests girls that put other girls down for the sake of appealing to men. Lydia thinks that's ridiculous.
-Stevie is actually her half brother. He was the result of a one night stand when her father decided to put himself out there again but they loved little Stevie all the same.
-She has a very inordinate and beguiling vocabulary. It's honestly a hoot listening to her sling insults at people and watch them try to decipher what she's actually talking about.
