And every day, the world will drag you by the hand, yelling, âThis is important! And this is important! And this is important! You need to worry about this! And this! And this!â And each day, itâs up to you to yank your hand back, put it on your heart and say, âNo. This is whatâs important.

Happiness.. In A Nutshell
When I was probably 15 or 16, I caught myself questioning why I couldnât be happy like e v e r y o n e else around me. I had already decided I liked being sad and I enjoyed pity parties for myself. Certain things, like dance and photography, made me happy but I wasnât happy all the time. I considered this normal. I considered this a problem every 16 year old had experienced. It took me 2 years to realize that not every teenager has to question their happiness 24/7. I learned a lot about happiness at my darkest times..
1. Happiness is homemade YOU can make YOURSELF happy. Do things that make you happy. Stay away from the things that make you sad. Surround yourself with happy, motivated people (their energy is contagious).Â
2. You arenât going to âfindâ happiness. Ever. You arenât going to meet someone and say âOh my goodness! Finally, I found the happiness I was looking for!â You will meet people that will make you uncontrollably happy but no one is going to fix this void in your mind. What Iâm trying to say is.. Never depend on anyone else for YOUR own happiness.Â
3. Force yourself to be happy Wake up everyday telling yourself you are happy and that itâs going to be a good day. Once I added this into my morning routine, I noticed I was becoming increasingly happier everyday. I started noticing the good in every day and started ignoring the bad. Let a bad thought have itâs moment in your mind, but never let it control your day. One bad thought can ruin a completely fine day.Â
4. You are your problem, but also your solution Like I mentioned, happiness is homemade. Your thoughts, your perceptions, your thinking process, etc. is essentially what get you upset. Sure, someone said something hurtful but itâs your perception that will either hurt you or help you. If you are sad, you are the solution to your sadness. How you handle this cruel world is up to you and you only.Â
I love myself. I believe in myself. I support myself.
She, In the dark, Found light Brighter than many ever see. She, Within herself, Found loveliness Through the soul's own mastery. And now the world receives From her dower: The message of the strength Of inner power
Langston Hughes
You have no idea what you're doing yet you make all these crucial decisions every day. It's like driving at night with the headlights off and you have to keep going full speed because that's how life is. You try to think through every possible action and outcome, like which college to pick? And which job to go for and which supermarket to go to today and should you really buy that pint of Ben and Jerry's? But you don't know and you're a fool if you think you do. The "best decision" may actually be the worst one. Your top choice college may send you head-first into a spiraling depression because the only person that could have helped was at the closest community college. It's like driving down a road you thought you knew and you think you're supposed to turn left at the next stoplight but what you don't know is that you missed the stoplight 5 miles back and there's no way to turn around. Our perspectives are so narrow that there's no possible way any one of us could consciously make the right decision about anything, yet we still try because it gives us some false sense of control like we actually have a say in what happens to us. You can choose what you do but you can't choose how that ultimately affects your life and it's terrifying. You don't know how one simple choice could throw your whole life off balance so this is what I'm saying: Stop trying so hard to make everything work out perfectly. Just live your life. Stress out about it once in awhile but then loosen your death-grip on the steering wheel and enjoy the thrill of it.

Why Little Girls Need Their Fathers
Iâve debated on writing about this because I was scared of hurting someoneâs feelings or stepping on someoneâs toes. I fully understand every situation is different but I believe others should hear my side of this story.Â
Facts: Children without fathers are 4 times more likely to be poor. Fatherless children have a greater risk to be drug/alcohol users. 44% of children are growing up in mother-only homes
Fatherâs leave their families for many reasons. They leave because theyâre scared of the future or maybe they feel like they canât father a child. Maybe they leave because of the pressure and stress. Many times, they leave without a warning to the child or the mother. When a child grows up without a father, they only think that they werenât good enough for their own father. The mother is left thinking he left because she wasnât good enough. Children seem to catch onto things quite quickly so when they realize that something in their family is missing, is screws up their view of the family. Why isnât my father here? Why does everyone else get a father except for me? Young children canât grasp on to these questions. As a child ages, these questions grows into anger. Anger towards themselves, their father and their mother. My anger towards my father came out on my mom, because I didnât know who else to scream at when the questions started piling up in my head. I couldnât understand why this had to happen to me.Â
Little girls who grow up without their father have a misunderstanding of relationships. I didnât have a âperfectâ relationship to look up to so my understanding of a relationship was distorted. These little girls who are questioning why they werenât good enough for their own family are now going to start believing they arenât good enough for anyone. They donât have a guy at home, so they start looking at the guys at school thinking that maybe they can protect me. Truth is, no boy can protect you like a father should. You become vulnerable in hopes that a boy is going to come along and save you. Many people will argue thatâs a normal problem between young girls, but these girls who are growing up without a father are looking for attention from guys in all the wrong places. I had such a distorted version of how a relationship should work and how a man should treat you. I never had a man treating my mom the way she deserved so how was I supposed to know what a man should do?Â
If I could give one piece of advice to the little girl growing up without a father, it would be to never let your fatherâs decisions decide your fate. Also, you are not to blame for your fatherâs decisions and you will never be able to change your fatherâs decisions. God has given you this life specifically for you. I always wish I had my father when I was younger, but in all honesty, itâs made me who I am today and I am not ashamed of who I am. I am a whole person, despite the fact that my childhood was not ânormalâ. I am living, even without a father.Â
Thank you to all the people who have helped me along this journey and take me under your wing when I was at my most vulnerable point. A special thank you to my amazing mother who sacrificed so much for me when I was younger, my grandfather and uncle being the best father figures imaginable. To Terry and Beverly, Cindy and Michael, and Sheila: Thank you for taking me under your wing when I was younger. I love yâall and Iâm so blessed to have yâall in my life.Â
âYou Complete Meâ Is A Red Flag!
If you ever hear âyou complete me baby!â from your boyfriend/girlfriend.. You need to run.. And hereâs why: First, Your partner should be a whole human being when entering a relationship. They should know who they are already. They should not be searching for someone to complete them. They should be âcompletedâ when meeting you. Anyone can âcompleteâ them by giving them attention. Secondly, A person is never going to fill a huge void in your heart. Letâs say you just got broken up with.. This DOES NOT mean you need to find someone else immediately to fill that void in your heart. You have to fill that void with happiness and independence! Also, no one is going to come save you from heartbreak, depression, anxiety, etc. You have to take a grip of your life during pain and loss. The term âYou complete meâ is stating that your partner and yourself are halves. You and your partner are WHOLE people, not HALVES. People can not complete other people. You lived before you met this person, you breathed before you met this person. Yes, Iâm sure they make you happy. Thatâs great, but that does not mean they complete you. This term creates a dependence between the couple. If either person starts believing that their partner really does actually complete them they will begin to think they actually canât live without them.Â
