Depression isn't a pain where it hurts for a moment and you're fine. It's the type of pain where it becomes unbearable to be awake. To live.

It really angers me the amount of people that claim to suffer from mental illnesses either because they see it as a way of getting attention or because they think it makes them different from everyone else. Claiming to have an illness that you don’t have makes you an inconsiderate arse-hole.
Rape is not when you have sex with someone and then regret it afterwards. You have already given consent, you can’t take away consent when the act is done. Rape is being forced to carry out sexual intercourse usually at the threat of harm.
Anxiety is not getting nervous before a big event, test, interview, date etc. Anxiety is a chemical imbalance in the brain causing both psychological and physical symptoms such as vomiting, irritability, severe stomach cramping, excessive sweating, chills, migraine etc.
‘’Triggered’’ is not a word that you can use when someone says something that you disagree with or are offended by. Triggered is when an image, scent, word etc provokes a reaction where a person is then affected by their PTSD, Anxiety, Depression, Eating Disorder, Bipolar, Schizophrenia etc or feel the urge to self harm.
Self Harm is not accidentally hurting yourself. It’s not a joke or something to show off. Don’t threaten to hurt yourself when someone says or does something you don’t like, don’t manipulate people with your self harm. When you make sure everyone knows you are hurting yourself and are using it as a form of manipulation yes it makes you an attention seeking moron. Self harm is deliberate injury typically a manifestation of a psychological or psychiatric disorder.
Depression is not feeling sad for a few days. Being upset because you fell out with a friend or partner and claiming depression is wrong. Depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain which causes feelings of severe despondency and dejection.
PTSD is not looking back and remembering something unpleasant. PTSD is a mental health condition that is triggered by a terrifying event. Symptoms include flashbacks- where you feel as though you are reliving said event even though you aren’t. All your surroundings change to become the event you feared- nightmares and severe anxiety. These flashbacks can be brought on simply by smelling something that reminds you of the event.
Eating Disorders are not when you decide to go on a diet to lose a bit of weight. An eating disorder is when you have abnormal and disturbed eating habits. Anorexia is an emotional disorder characterized by an obsessive desire to lose weight by refusing to eat. It is not being underweight because you have a fast metabolism. Bulimia is an emotional disorder characterized by a distorted body image and an obsessive desire to lose weight, in which bouts of extreme overeating are followed by fasting or self-induced vomiting or purging. Some people suffer from eating disorders where they struggle to stop eating and therefore gain a lot of weight.
OCD is not being a neat freak. OCD is is an anxiety disorder in which people have unwanted and repeated thoughts, feelings, ideas, sensations (obsessions), or behaviors that make them feel driven to do something (compulsions).Often the person carries out the behaviors to get rid of the obsessive thoughts.
Bipolar Disorder is not when you are happy and something happens which makes you angry. Bipolar is characterized by both manic and depressive episodes, or manic ones only, it is having or relating to two poles or extremities.
Schizophrenia is not when you thought you heard someone calling your name when they weren’t. Schizophrenia is a long-term mental disorder of a type involving a breakdown in the relation between thought, emotion, and behaviour, leading to faulty perception, inappropriate actions and feelings, withdrawal from reality and personal relationships into fantasy and delusion, and a sense of mental fragmentation.
Stop glorifying mental illnesses and tragic events to make people feel sorry for you. Every single time you do or say any of this you make it nearly impossible for real sufferers to get help. Because so many women claim rape where a rape never occurred 97 out of every 100 rapists receive no form of punishment. People with mental health disorders struggle to get signed off work even though they are mentally unfit for work because so many people now claim to be sufferers from these conditions when they know nothing about what each disorder does to anyone who is struggling with them. People fear asking for help in case they look like the attention seekers and the fakes. Why would you want to have any of these disorders? You wouldn’t want cancer or to be in a wheelchair so why is it different when it comes to mental health?
i’m seeing a lot of people reblogging suicide hotlines and this is just a reminder that this is a suicide help line that works like a text-based instant messenger for people who may need to talk to someone but have trouble/are uncomfortable making phone calls
