If you had a dime for every time Megumi got beat the fuck up during a mission you wouldn’t be here right now. If you also had a dime for everytime something went horribly wrong during said mission you wouldn’t be here right now. You would probably be off relaxing on some beach miles away from your bloodied boyfriend. It was that often.
“I’m starting to think they’re trying to get rid of all three of you ya know.” You said, trying to lift the spirits of the room but he was only staring down at the floor. Most likely beating himself up about the failed mission.
The infirmary was dark, only a few lights remained on. The others—Itadori and Nobara— have already received treatment and went off to bed. Megumi was the last one in, wanting to only be treated by you. Despite his body being in need of urgent healing.
Your work was almost done and you were trying to help him crack even the smallest of smiles, sadly it’s not going too well. “I said, I’m starting to think they’re trying to get rid of all three of you ya know!” You repeated, dragging your words out for a more comedic effect. He didn’t laugh, or look up. “Jeez tough crowd.”
“Sorry,” He replied half heartedly. “I’m jus’ thinkin.” His voice was slightly slurred, maybe because of all the hits he took. but you also noticed the hard grip he has on the table he was sitting on.
Megumi was not one who took failure lightly. Even once the mission is long over with and everything taken care of. He'll continue to condemn himself for something that wasn’t even his fault. Weeks will pass and he’ll continue to hold the weight on his shoulders. especially, if innocent people were involved.
“Thinking? What could your pretty little head be thinking about?” This time he looked up at you. Megumi's eyes were slightly glassy under the dim lights. Dark lashes fluttering slowly before taking your gloved hand in his.
You instantly leaned in closer as if it would help you get the answer quicker. Your breath was shaky, anticipating his words. This was...not what you thought he was thinking about. Plus it seemed serious! You haven’t had a serious talk about your relationship before. Your heart started to beat a little faster as your boyfriend took even longer to start talking. You spoke first, “Well? What about us?”
“I—.” he started but took another pause. He was trying to form his words as perfectly as possible. It’s not often that he talks about his feelings, especially his feelings for you. Everything with him is implied and read between the lines. “I just, really appreciate you in my life.” He said, finally feeling satisfied.
He’s been thinking about what to say to you as soon as he stepped inside the infirmary. Megumi knows that he gets hurt every other day, and he knows you have other things to tend to. But, no matter how busy you are, you always come to patch him up. He imagines that it gets kinda old for you, but here you are, smiling and trying to make him laugh. He wants you to know how much he appreciates you even if he can’t write or say the most poetic things.
You were baffled, moving closer to his face. Is that all he really had to say? If so, he’s such a drama queen. “Is that all? Because if it is, I'm going to beat you up harder than that curse did.”
His eyes turned wide suddenly overthinking his answer. “Did I? Did I offend you because if I did I apologize and take it back. It’s just that, you always take care of me and you’re extra gentle and I really really like having you in my life! You’re really kind and a—.”
You cut him off fearing he was about to rip out one of his stitches. “Megumi you’re rambling.”
“...Oh.” He looked away about to take your hand out of his but you firmly held on.
“Buttttt, I appreciate you being in my life too. You’re a real character.” You wink at him, liking how he rolls his eyes back. “But you gotta quit the theatrics, they're not for you. I was kinda scared that we were about to have some big meaningful talk.”
“That was a bit dramatic huh? I Apologize, I just didn’t want to say the wrong thing.” His cheeks have a small tint to them. It’s obvious it’s not from the beating he’s endured either. As upfront as he is he gets embarrassed a lot.
“Gumi are you blushing?!” You cooed bringing his hand up to your heart. “That is so precious!” You move to delicately pinch his cheeks but he moves out of the way.
“Ahem are we done here? I need to get some rest.” He stands up making sure to keep his distance from you so you don’t baby him. Makes him feel like a little boy, but deep deep way deep down, you know he loves it.
You smile looking up at his bandage face. Even with an almost busted eye and some stitches, he’s still so handsome. “Yeah, yeah we’re done here let’s get you to bed.”
The walk back to his dorm was silent. You both staring at the night sky, walking close enough so your elbows barely touch. Until you reached his door and Gumi gave you some other words instead of just “goodnight” with his goodnight kiss.
“Nobody, ever fixes me up like you do. Thank you lovely.”
