“Basketball season starts Friday and I swear varsity’s going to be known as the biggest trash talkers since...” Sulley made a face and tried not to smile, “Since I last played...which you know, is reprimand-able but, brings back the nostalgia.”

“I’ve been in Santa Monica for a long time now….” Moana said softly, staring out the window in front of them. “I don’t even know what home looks like. It could be okay still…it always was slowly getting worse and worse…” she sighed. “I’m sorry, I just….feel like I’m not doing enough.”

“Growing up,” Sulley began taking a sip of his coffee. “When we first grow up, we grow outward. Height, the way we look, but we forget that we grow inward and suddenly things seem different. Home looks farther away and sometimes it feels like we’ve just stopped altogether. Cause we focus on growing up outwardly and focus on what’s in front of us rather than what’s inside of us.” After taking another sip of his coffee, he looked over to Moana in a reassuring manner. “Trust yourself that you’ll be able to get whatever needs to get done. That’s the key to moving forward.”

“I am sorry to inform you that you signed a lifelong deal when you decided to trespass my dorm area, thus, disrupting all and any trace of existing peace in my life. You suck it up.”

“Excuse you? I was forcibly paired with you, I never asked for this. So you suck it up–with a straw.”

“I’m startin’ to feel like I’m the only one ‘round here with a good sense of humor. I laughed for a good ten minutes the first time I heard that one.”

“Hey now, I’ve got a sense of humor but God, that was awful. Like popsicle stick jokes awful,” Sulley chuckled shaking his head. “See, now it’s making me laugh because I’m thinking about how terrible it is.”

“If this is a question about the essay, by all means, please come in.” Archie said with a tired smile, pushing the two books he’d been reading back. “If it’s a request to push the due date back, by all means, go to the cafeteria, get a coffee, and start working. I already changed the date once, I won’t do it again.” 

Sulley walked in holding in an extra cup of coffee, “Actually, I just came in to bring you this, all things considering.” He shook his head with a chuckle, “I’m guessing students are really trying to hustle for a push back before midterms?”

“Oh, listen to this one!” Trusty smiled as he read the joke aloud. “What kinda award does the dentist of the year receive? A ‘lil plaque!”

Sulley deadpanned at Trusty’s joke for a moment and then began to slowly shake his head. “Come on, Trusty...”

Lucian was finishing buttoning up his shirt as Sulley came into the room, he had no plans of going out that night, but he was growing bored of being stuck with the same clothes all day. “Ah, just the company I yearned for.” He walked towards the other man as he spoke, but his words were directed at the bottle that had now been snatched from his best friend’s hands. “…and Sullivan; I will admit this could be worse.” He said with the lightest smirk playing at his lips. “Tempting. I do have to ask, will I be obliged to drag you home on my own once the morning comes? My answer might change if this plan resembles the last unfortunate time.”

Sulley had grinned at the compliment proudly until he realized the bottle was taken out of his hand and looked over at Lucian. “You know, I could’ve spat in that bottle and I bet you’d still drink it,” He retorted with a shit-eating grin. “On a scale of one to being nearly catatonically still in the guest room, how worse?” Sulley’s green eyes narrowed towards his best friend for a moment, both in playfulness, but filled with concern. “Excuse me, you cannot throw my 21st birthday in my face, Mr. Tremaine,” He wagged his finger at his best friend. “But, on the contrary, I’ll be getting to drag your ass home this time and it will be,” He paused to dramatically inhale, “Glorious.”

Okay, he definitely could have done this a better way. Milo contemplated his locked office door silently for a moment, arms piled high with tiles and folders and maps and all the other detritus his office tended to accumulate. He’d picked up the keys to his new office earlier in the day, securing them to his keyring beside his car keys and new apartment key, so that wasn’t the problem. But his keys were in his back pocket, well out of reach with the current burden he carried.

What’s worse–he could feel his glasses sliding slowly down his nose, shifting out of a useful position. He dropped his head to rub his face against his shoulder, trying to push the lenses back into a serviceable place, but only managed to knock them even further askew.

“Jiminy Christmas,” He muttered, blowing out a sigh through his nose. There wasn’t anywhere convenient to set everything down, of course. No bench or table or shelf in sight. He had resigned himself to gathering up all his things from the floor after getting his door unlocked when he heard the tap of footsteps approaching down the hall. He tipped his head, trying to get a better look at the approaching figure through his wayward spectacles.

“I don’t suppose you’d be willing to help a guy out, huh?”

Basketball practice had ended early and here Sulley was writing notes down for the next game to keep in mind. All that was swirling around his head was impressing both the Headmistress and Jock, the football coach, enough for him to land the job as WDPA’s varsity basketball coach for the upcoming season. Between that and his engagement, Sulley’s head was elsewhere for the time being, trying to focus on two things at a time until he had heard a voice causing his head to snap up. He looked around for the moment until his eyes widened, seeing his geography professor struggle with his things. “'Course, Mr. Thatcher. You’ve uh...got a lot going on there, huh?” He offered with a smile as he knelt down to help out the man with his things.

It has truly been hell on earth with you, my dear friend, but every day it’s been hell was a good day. There’s so much I’d like to thank you for, but I’ll save it for another time but let these gifts be my tokens of appreciation with the activities you enjoy. Your 26th year appears to be as bright as I am, so don’t shy away from the light, run right to it and embrace the possibilities.

“Hey...Satan?” Sulley knocked on the door before letting himself in, holding up a bottle of bourbon. “I come in peace. Just wanted to see how you were before you chucked another shoe at me,” He tried to bite back the smile he wanted to put on his face, but it was time for the two men to get back to their bro days and bond. “I was thinking...why not have a night on the town? Like old times? Just pure Tremaine and Sullivan debauchery. What do you say?”

She’d found him attractive, even back in high school. They’d share a flirtatious glance and she’d check out his ass at the football games. That was as far as it’d gone until they were both in college. Looking back on it all, Arista thought their timing was perfect. They’d both had time to grow up, and for Arista it was time to settle down. Instead of chasing boys, she’d begun to chase music and then in walked James. He’d entered her life so seamlessly that it was like fate had been saving that spot at her side just for him. “Another surprise?” Her eyebrows lifted. Her lips curled into a smirk and she started to respond but was cut short when he threw her over his shoulder. “James!” A burst of laughter escaped her as she found her feet no longer on the ground. 

It was all about timing between them two. They had pined after the other since they were in high school, but it took them a while to actually fall for each other and that chase made things all the more worth it. Between switching majors and Arista’s growing music career, sure, things weren’t always rose-colored and things weren’t always perfect, but that was what made everything between them, real. Of course, Sulley could swear he was dreaming in the moment, but as soon as he had Arista hoisted over his shoulder, he knew, that he was just another step closer to a long life with her. “Yes, babe, another surprise. I promise, it’ll be all the more worth it and not worth getting punch on your shoes.”

“Come on, man, it’s a valid excuse for hitting my head on the sink–those corners come out of no where!” Jack laughed, rubbing his hand over the small knot for a moment. “Yo, that could be a band name, but I’m not sure it’d be very good. Other than for keeping the non-Triton secrets a secret.” He thought for a moment. “Especially if it was you, me, and Hart.”

“That’s what you get for jamming too hard to Aquata’s Panic! At The Disco records,” He teased, handing Jack a frozen bag of peas for the knot forming on his head. “I can play drums, but don’t ask me for vocals. I sound like a dying horse, or at least, that’s what I’ve been told,” He shrugged and then smirked. “That...wouldn’t be such a bad idea. We’d be a pretty tight team. Exchange Triton secrets, keep our own secrets, keeping their secrets, shit like that.”

Jack pointed to the small bump on his forehead, feigning confusion. “How did I get this? Funny story– I was headbanging in the bathroom and hit my head on the sink.” As he spoke, he pretended to headbang again, but quickly stood back up straight. “Who knew something so fun could bring so much pain? Don’t tell Arista, because then she’ll tell Aqua and she’ll laugh at me.”

Sulley sat quietly for a moment until he roared with laughter, wiping a tear away, “Wait--you’re actually serious? You headbanged and hit your head on the sink? Man...you and Aquata are truly a match made in heaven, huh?” He shook his head and cleared his throat. “Oh, don’t worry about me. Secret’s safe in the secret society of Triton significant others.”

It didn’t matter to her that he was soaked in punch and the smell of alcohol clung to his clothes. Though surrounded by a crowd of people, including the majority of the most important people in her life, at that moment there was only him. Only James. Her James. Arms wrapping around him to pull herself closer, Arista shivered as his wet shirt brushed against the skin left bare by her two piece ensemble. The blonde had already known that she was going to spend the rest of her life with Sulley. For her, there was no other man. Briefly, she pulled her lips from his, although it took great effort to do so. “Do you wanna hang out here or go someplace alone?” 

Arista was Sulley’s first major crush since his junior year of high school, the crush he never acted on until his final year of college and after that fateful day, and after finally making a move after so many years of just sharing the casual flirtatious glance, they were now just a step closer to getting married. Feeling the blonde shiver against him made him reluctantly pulled away and he chuckled, “Actually, I’ve got a surprise for you at home, but first...I gotta shower this out and maybe...” He then smirked against her lips, “You could join me...but first--” He carefully hoisted the blonde over his shoulder, “I don’t want you to slip on punch.”
