Sunset cruise on the boat with Pam and Mike! #lakehavasu #havasu #arizona #funwithfriends #summerfun
Hello Friends! Yesterday was my birthday, and tomorrow is Halloween! Another month has just flown by. Panic mode will kick in in a couple of days when the calendar switches over to November because we all know what comes after November!! Of course you must know because it has been in all the stores; around here anyway; for at least a couple of months. But we will save that for another time. Today is about birthdays! I was thinking of celebrating my birthday this year by getting up before sunrise and going up the trail to the hill I was on a couple of weeks ago and watch the sun come up. Thought it would be something cool to do on my birthday. Or at least walk in to a good vantage point that didn't involve me walking up a steep trail in the dark. I'm not quite sure what I was thinking. I have great plans at night, but I'm not really a morning person. LOL Instead I slept in until 9:00 and strolled around in the house in my pjs for part of the day. It was cold and too windy for picture taking and/or exploring. I mostly did what I normally do any other Saturday when my husband is working. Cleaning and laundry; well except for the little plumbing issue. But husband fixed that rather quickly. The kids and I did make birthday cupcakes for me, so that was fun! And I read the many birthday wishes on Facebook from family, friends and acquaintances. But, I didn't win the lottery so I guess it's back to work tomorrow. Haha! A few days ago I had no clue what I was going to talk about. Well, I had an idea. It's my birthday. I'm getting older. Got cupcakes and presents. Yup, that sums it up... I am constantly looking for signs of inspiration, and yesterday I got that in three separate birthday gifts. A picture frame, a new book, and a new coffee mug. All of which I have featured in this post. The picture frame, I think, will inspire me to get more prints of my photos so I can be reminded of something special. It will also remind me to stop comparing myself to others and to concentrate on my own work. Blaze my own trail, so to speak. Too often I find myself thinking; I'll never be as good as this person or that person. When really I should be myself. I am pretty awesome. Aren't we all!! The book, "In The Company Of Women" by Grace Bonney, will show me how many other women are living their dream; and I can too! I am only a couple of stories in and am already feeling inspired! The coffee mug... well besides the uplifting quote... will hold my coffee of course. And coffee REALLY inspires me. As you can tell I don't hate my birthdays. Quite the opposite. I also don't mind whether I have a "celebration" or not. Every year, I'm just thankful that I got another year on this planet. Then I think back on the past year and things I wanted to accomplish. Did I complete them or are they even really important anymore? Did I put in enough effort to get the job done? What do I want to accomplish before I turn 47? It's sort of like my New Year's resolutions. What do I want to do with the rest of my life? My creative life that is. I'm slowly inching my way closer to 50 and that used to seem scary, you know, the old mortality thing. But worrying does not stop the clock. It just stops you from enjoying the present. The past is in the past and you can carry forward unfinished projects with you, or let them go. So today, the day after my birthday, while I'm contemplating eating yet another cupcake, I realize that I have to stop thinking; start planning and start doing. Get my butt in gear. Right after I eat that cupcake, and drink another cup of coffee... So, friend, what do you think of birthdays? Do you love them? Do you think they suck? Do you have a love/hate relationship with them? Let me know by commenting below. I'm off to fill up treat bags for the kiddies for Halloween tomorrow night. Thanks for stopping by to enjoy the view from where I am...

This is my latest flower image. I had fun photographing the daisy in my studio and then taking it into photoshop to add my textures and a bit of water fun! What caught my eyes with this flower was the white area around the middle. If you would like to see the original un-cropped version you can here: http://ow.ly/cKks303mNqz Tip: Think about what interests you with that subject and see what you can do with it. How can a student become a professional photographer?
Do you really like to take pictures, and you are sure that the picture must necessarily be transformed from a simple hobby into your profession? Then this article is for you. Unfortunately, the unique recipe “how to become a photographer” does not exist, but the tips below will undoubtedly help you to make your dreams come true, at least this one 🙂
You need passion
Always maintain those feelings with which you started reading this article: passion, commitment, willingness to deal with difficulties, surmount all the obstacles that you are going to meet a lot on your way. Some of them are high level of competition among colleagues, the errors, the first failure, challenges and frustration.
When you become engaged in a photography in order to profit – shooting and processing photos may turn in the normal routine work. Do not let this happen, keep moving, improve your skills, create for yourself, your friends and not just for the money-minded purpose.
Here we have given to you some of the psychological advice because this is the essential point while taking up any endeavor! A lot of people once they have started doing something new give up because of the lack of motivation and satisfaction. Find the purpose of your occupation by asking yourself “Why should I do this?”, “What outcome am going to get from this thing?”, “Am I happy being involved in photography?” and so on… If you always now a precise answer to what you want everything will turn out the way you want it to be. Such traits as commitment, devotion, passion and willingness are important in most of the professions, especially when you do something for other people, such professions may include doctors, research paper writer, barbers, designers etc.
Some things to remember
The main thing to remember is that whether you have a good and expensive camera or not, does not mean that you are now a photographer. A lot of people who know the owners of these smart cameras ask them why they are not engaged in photographing weddings, holidays and so on. This is a very wrong question! You must know how to be a photographer, in fact, you need to have time to catch the best shot, help with a position and posture, fix drawbacks, and so forth. A good photographer is studying all his life: how to work with light, with decorations, with people, with new cameras and so forth.
How to start
To start, take courses or more serious training, for example, in photography school. Here you will learn how to work with compositions, with light and shadows. In addition, it is much better to learn about the necessary equipment from the experts, than to try by trial and error method and as a result, lose your valuable time. Of course, you can study photography and become a photographer by yourself by watching online lessons, for example. Do not hurry up to buy an expensive camera, you can start shooting with the simplest digital camera, but with the adjustment settings (not automatic settings), where you can adjust the suitable ISO setting, flash, color-balance and so on. Now you can find an inexpensive, but a good digital camera with optical zoom, and the ability to capture small parts (for macro). Watch tutorials and learn to shoot weather, people, traffic, water and so on.
The next step on the way to becoming a photographer will be training to work with ready-made images. Each picture needs attention and time, so you can add personality and individuality to each picture. Undoubtedly, the most popular program is the «Adobe Photoshop», although the cost can be high for you. But first, you can install a less expensive version of «Adobe Photoshop Elements».
Do not forget about the competitive spirit: take part in a competition, where your shots can be evaluated (on diverse blogs and websites), in addition, you will be able to take first place and win a prize. Once you have learned the basics of photography, you will be able to confidently buy high-quality and professional equipment with high-quality optics, with iris, with the possibility of re-buy the necessary accessories to the camera.
Creating a personal portfolio
In order to start work as a photographer on a commercial basis, you will need a minimum set of different selection of the highest quality photos. Select the best photos from your own perspective taken by you but keep in mind that they must be different.
It is best if you have some free photo sessions in the studio and on the street with the model you like. The resultant pictures will be the ones for your portfolio.
Do not jump in feet first!
Do not spend all your free time only for your passion. It is clear that you want to get the most quality results in the shortest possible time, but think about the other side of the coin – you can “burn out”, simply overdo it, and your loved ones and family, most likely will not be in awe of your permanent absence .
Communication skills
Not only technical skills and creativity are important to the profession of a photographer. It is important as well as the ability to communicate, find a common language with strangers as well. It is important to quickly “transmit” the customers into the category of “friends” during the shooting, they will feel, more relaxed and confident. It is important to “feel” your customer, to know when it is appropriate to make a joke, and when it’s better to abstain from them.
Constant studies
Improve your skills constantly: either alone or with the help of literature and Internet — online resources and with the help of various courses, masterclasses that are widely available nowadays. Here you will find best tools for editing and improving the outcome.

This is a fun abstract I took at Lake Tahoe. It’s so easy to get caught up in the beauty of the place as a whole, but when you take time to look at small details your photography will bloom and take on a whole new perspective.

What do You Like in Life? Photograph it!
What do you like in life? Think about it and then photograph it or the concept of your passion.
Photography is not only for the visual experience in life, but it can be a documentation of your passions. For example, I love to hike with my husband, but while I’m hiking I really pay attention to details. The rock formation with the rock climber is awesome, don’t get me wrong, but I absolutely go crazy over desert flowers growing between rocks. I also love animals so how can I not photograph a desert chipmunk checking us out while we eat lunch? 🙂 And I can’t forget my love of history. Capturing anything with historical value really floats my boat.
These are personal photographs that make ME smile and that is what life is about…the experience! I am a tree hugger because of my passion so I’m affiliated with several conservation groups. I also want others to enjoy what I’ve experienced so I work with the hospitality industry. It’s a good feeling to know that when someone stays in a hotel that they will see my work and feel my passion. Once you see the variety of photographs that you have accumulated, take the next step and figure out what you can do with your passion.

No Poppies : (
In my last post I was really excited to check out the poppy fields here in Southern California because with all the rain we’ve been having you would think there would be hills full of flowers right? Sadly, there was nothing but open fields of dead poppies and grass. There were a few poppies here and there that had sprout out from grass as we drove by, but nothing compared to the fields of golden yellow that I had photographed throughout the previous years.
It’s a site to see…maybe next year? Hopefully!
I found one small patch. f2.8 with my 70-200mm lens
I’m looking forward to our next road trip soon and will share the fun on my new FB community! If you have time I would love for you to join our new community, check it out on Facebook here.
Cheers, Janice

Spring Inspiration
On Friday I was invited to our local high school for career day. I thought what the heck, if I can inspire the students to pick up a camera and photograph, why not.
It was really exciting to see some students with their cameras and it was refreshing to know that they really love photography.
Thanks Bonita High School for the invite. It’s always a pleasure.
Spring is here for us in California. I always rent before I buy my equipment so I figured I’d share some rentals with you all from Borrowed Lens.

Logos for Your Videos
Today I wanted to take the time to share information on logos for your videos. This is important for your brand and should be thought out and worked with someone who understands what you’re going for. So why should photographers want to work with videos? It’s another media outlet to showcase your work. Photography is all over the place and standing out is important. A quick video of your images is fun to watch, but make sure you also have an eye-catching logo to build your name, set yourself apart from others and show people you’re professional.
I am a very busy person like many of you so for me, it was better financially to pay to have my logos completed by someone else. I want to share my logos. Also, I wanted to share with you the personrty who worked with me and made them perfect. A.D. Wheeler. Not only is he an amazing photographer he is a very talented logo designer.
This is my intro logo.
This is the ending logo.
Can you guess what I want from them? If you guess the light of knowledge and learning you got it! I worked with A.D. Wheeler on my concept and he totally understood what I wanted and made the logos. I recommend that if you want a creative spin to your logos please contact him here. Don’t forget to tell him Janice sent you 😉
Hope you have an amazing Easter!

I don’t have one of these but this looks cool and have been debating if I should buy one? Would love info from you on on copters, if you have time please comment below.
