I did a Paint Your Pup Pawty and used my favorite picture of Summer from when she was like 6 months old. It was a little stressful, but with the right friends and enough wine, it was all okay.

One of my favorite spots... warming in a sunbeam.
Out for our first real “walk” post surgery this morning. I was prepared with my sling in case she got tired out. No need. She did great!
All of the sudden we have a dry skin problem and doggy dandruff everywhere.
Post surgery day 14 Summer got her stitches out today. Between the holiday on Monday and a busy week, it had to wait until today which is the end of the window that the surgeon suggested (10-14 days post op). Everything is healing nicely and the incision site looks great. Walking is vastly improved and she is getting stronger every day. I am trying to do some intentional rehab type exercises with her that I found on @celebritydachshund ‘s website. Overall, it’s just nice to have my happy pup back.
My mama-person went out of town and left me at home. I stayed with my puppy mama’s daddy-person. He’s a Dogtor and his clinic staff took care of me while my mama-person and my whole family went out of town. Uncle Dogtor said they did some laser treatments on me and that I’m doing really well. I just enjoyed sitting in my mama-person’s lap and looking out the window as the city went by on our way home.
Hi. My mama person is home. I. Can’t. Stop. Licking. Her.
Throw back to this spring and my crawfish boil experience. Those things are weird.
Post surgery day 5: Things are definitely getting back to normal. She’s fussing at Stack @stacktheblackdog and will wait until he’s watching before she eats her food. And she spit out both of her pill meds after licking them clean of the peanut butter. The little turd. This is life with a dachshund. Yes. Things are getting back to normal indeed.
Post surgery day 4 update: Summer already seems stronger even than she seemed yesterday. She’s taking more steps and is increasingly more stable. No kidding, she looks like she’s falling down drunk when she walks. But the improvement is impressive. Side note - looking for feedback: We have not successfully used the “Walkabout” sling thing the surgeon gave us. She simply won’t walk in it. We never used one with our last Dachshund post surgery. How important do you think it is? Any tips to share?
Ahhh. It’s good to be home. My bro-fur @stacktheblackdog isn’t quite sure what’s going on yet, but he still stays by my side.
Summer gets to come home today!
I just heard from the doctor and she is doing well enough to come home a day early. Her dad will pick her up late this afternoon.
My mama is really hoping I can come home from the hospital tomorrow. But if not, I should be home the day after. Everyone has been so nice to me at the hospital and they let me give them lots of kisses. But I’m ready to be back home with my bro-fur and my people. (This picture is from my first visit with my regular doctor when mama thought she noticed that my back was hurting me.)
I went and visited with Summer this morning. She is still pretty sedated and groggy. The tech brought her out to me and she snuggled right up against me. She’d lift her head and look at me, give me a couple of kisses then have to lay her head back down again. Dr. And tech both said she is walking, but when I put her in the floor she just whimpered a little. So we just snuggled which was ok by me. We should hear an update from the Dr. tomorrow morning.
Dear Tumblr, I know it’s been an awfully long time since we’ve talked. My mom’s life has just been pretty busy and since I don’t have opposable thumbs, typing is difficult for me... so I just hang out and wait for her to be available. Anyways, I’ve actually not been feeling very well over the last 3 weeks. I’ve been resting in my crate and getting lots of peanut butter wrapped around pills. But boy howdy, my back has really been hurting and it’s even been pretty hard to walk the last few days My mom brought me to a new place this morning. And now, all of the sudden I realize that I’m lying in a crate in a place I don’t recognize with lots of really sweet people I don’t recognize. I feel a little woozy and tired. And I just noticed a few minutes ago that my back is shaved and I’m really sore. But it’s different than how it’s been hurting these past few weeks. One of the nice ladies said that my mama-person is going to come see me tomorrow morning but that I’ll have to stay here for a couple more days. I’ll tell mama to give you an update tomorrow.
Why on earth would I sit on the floor when mom's computer bag is around?
This is where he belongs.
My bro-fur was so happy and at home in Colorado. He played so hard he nearly made himself sick by running himself ragged. But this is how he looked all week long. So happy.
