Ask Adam the Summoner

i have seen many other summoners start things like this and uh...it seemed fun...

  "Just use the same one you used last time fool!" She stomped placing him down into the middle of the circle after removing his robes from the circle making sure they wouldn’t be left as mere ashes. Sighing she began to feel as if this would become hopeless.

Adam sighed and re-cast the spell…only for nothing to happen.  "…?"  He tried again, still nothing.  "Uh…"

"Why do I feel this spell is not going to counteract the shrinking spell but the first one?" She sighed picked the summoner up from the ground and placing him somewhere she’d remember, right on her shoulder. “Whatever. Boys, get those books. We are going back to the library."

The summoner gulped looking down over Shyvana’s shoulder, and instinctively grabbed onto her armor, not wanting to fall off…it was a long way down.  "Great…"

"I can hear you a lot better right there. Don’t tell me you’re afraid of falling?" She chuckled plucking him off her shoulder and dropping him, purposely waiting to catch him before he possibly went ‘splat.’ Chuckling rather deviously. “I should do this for that bad behavior you’ve displayed lately."

Adam screamed as he fell off of the dragoness, only to land safely in her hand.  He whimpered as she brought him back up to her face, but stood his ground.  "A-As a summoner, I should…be treated better than that."  She was always telling him to be more assertive after all.

"Oh please. You’re still one of these pathetic and simple minded humans. Demanding respect you’ve yet to even earn. Tch. Now hush. I’m helping you out." She chuckled placing him onto her armor once more opening a door roughly and looking for the nearest librarian.

He pushed up his glasses and glared at Shyvana.  He had to get her back for this, there was no way he was going to be treated this way and let it stand…he had enough poor treatment from Mordekaiser after all…and being treated like this from a FRIEND? no, he wouldn’t allow it.  He started to concoct a plan…

Taking him away from her shoulder once more she set him down on the top of a number of books and began to read out of one that he’d been reading from when she found him. “Hmph. So the seal Lux devised was complete and probably worked. Though it only works on curses not ordinary spells. And it seems it focuses on priority. Unhuh… Adam When you were cursed what were you doing exactly?"

"Oh you know...fighting for my life, the usual."  He said as deadpan as possible.

Sighing she lifted him from the ground and placed him into her hand. “Well lucky for you there is a reversal. Though it says here in this book that a dragon’s fire can enhance the magical properties if they understand how to ‘breathe.’ Whatever the hell that means." 

Adam tapped his foot impatiently.  "Well? get on with it then! I’m already short as is I don’t want to stay shorter!"  He was very irritable, maybe it was because his new size gave him a short fuse.

"Don’t you dare rush me!" She hissed and glared. Placing him down to the circle again she spat flames to the ingredients that developed the circle. Luckily it seemed it’d last quite a bit and hopefully he’d know how to fix himself up and fix that other issue in one shot.

Unfortunately at his small size, reading the pages of the massive tome would take hours.  "Ugh…"  Disraught he falls back on his back and sighs. “maybe it’d be better to take a break…"

I’m not going into enemy territory unprepared either. But this will help you for the time being until i’m able to beat the answers out of him. Lux was able to set this seal up for you however to help counteract the spell for the time being."

"I see…"  Adam looked at the runes on the circle curiously, tapping them with his hand and running his fingers around them.  "And what, pray tell, does this seal do?  I assume it’s meant to seal away Mordekaiser’s curse temporarily but how does it work?"

"I’m not understanding of this witch-craft. You have the book-smarts look it up!" She demanded…realizing he took him away from the books. Sighing she sent one of her men in to retrieve a number of them. “There. Read up and do what you must for the moment." Taking a specific book revolved around the Dragons she became curious and delved into it paying little mind of her surroundings.

"If you say so…"  Adam took the book and continued studying, unaware that the magical seal was glowing around him.  "Let’s try….this one."  He set the book down and chanted.  "Oh chains that bind, oh lock that hides, keep this curse from taking my life.  Hide my spirit, my body, my mind, keep me safe from harm’s eyes."  As he finished the seal beneath him glowed a brilliant green glow.  "Uh…ok I wasn’t expecting that…"  And before he could even get up, the spell came into effect, shrinking the poor summoner.  "…E…Eh?"

"Adam it says here that with the help of a dra…ADAM!" She yelled. Looking around and walking directly towards the circle she realized he wasn’t where she’d expected him to be but at the same token stepped onto something. Looking down it was…his robes? “What in the name of Valoran is…ADAM!?" She dropped to her knee and forced the robes aside and low and behold there he was. “Of great you messed up the spell before I could even tell you the last part."

"Maybe you could have told me that SOONER rather than LATER!"  He yelled, thankfully his undershirt and shorts shrank with him, he would have died of embarrassment if it hadn’t.  His robe probably didn’t shrink due to the anti-magical properties it carried.

She said pleasantly, lifting his small body with ease and placing him onto her shoulder walking for a moment before placing him down in a circle. “I was told this would help you. It supposedly helps with curses. Though i’m sure you should know that."

The summoner eeped as he was suddenly lifted and then dropped into a small magical circle.  "W-What are you trying to do Shyvana?! Give me a heart attack?!"  He held his heart a few times to relax himself.  "You could give me a warning before you do that next time…um…anyways…"  He looked at the magical circle in confusion.  "How…exactly is this going to help?"

Adam tried to hide his surprise at being snuck up on in such a manner, and calmly turned around to face Sam.  "Hello Sam, how are you today?"

The summoner felt a shiver run up his spine and gently removed the cat’s paw from his shoulder…wait…paw?  ”Uh…”  Adam turned around to actually get a good look at whoever was talking to him, it appeared  to be some sort of feline person.  ”…Well…um…you’re in the institute of war, weren’t you aware?” He said, trying to remain calm, he was never good with cats after all.

“Nope, Tao has absolutely no idea.” She replied after removing her hand on his shoulder. “Tao just wandered off and ended up here at this strange place.”

“I…fail to see how you can just wander into the institute of war.  I mean there’s usually some paperwork involved just to take a visit, so I doubt you could just “wander in” without someone noticing.”  Who was this girl?  She seemed strange, even for Runeterra.

“Well, Tao wouldn’t be standing here if so,meow.” She said. She was about to ask another question about this place but something caught her attention. As she sees a bunch of Demacian champions walked passed them. “Hey hey, purple person. Who are does guys?” She asked pointing towards them.

"That would be Garen, Jarvan the IV, Lux, Galio, and Xin Zhao.  Some lucky summoners must have chosen to summon them all in their commando skins, that must have been an interesting match...wait no why am I wondering about that?"  Adam turned his attention back to Tao.  "Look, I'm going to have to escort you out, no unauthorized personal are allowed in here without permission."  He grabbed Tao's arm and attempted to lead her toward the front gate.

The loud roar of the Kaiser’s voice, followed by the turn of his undead soldiers toward Adam made the boy feel a shiver run up his spine.  This was obviously the worst case scenario; brought to the Kaiser’s lair by some unknown black robed man, by himself at that.  He had to run, he had to get away before they grabbed him.  In an instant, Adam turned and started to run with an unprecedented burst of speed, he had been training his body to withstand some minor exertion of  energy, however it was still a weak body, he would have to use his wits to get away.

Adam ran toward a thicket of trees, pulling his hood up and ducking into a clearing to prevent the branches from grabbing onto the fabric.  The ghosts chasing him obviously had no trouble phasing through the branches, but he didn’t mind. After all his plan wasn’t to slow them down but to simply lose himself in the darkness of the forest.   Once Adam had reached a suitable area, he ditched his robe for the black undershirt and pants underneath, setting it on a nearby branch.  The undead weren’t necessarily known for their smarts, so perhaps they could be fooled by this simple trick.  He then took off in another direction…only to be stopped by a ghostly hand grabbing his throat.   Adam gasped in shock to see a line of ghosts were standing in front of him, the kaiser must have sent them around the other side, anticipating the summoner’s movements, which made sense for someone who knew the isles so well, like Mordekaiser. Adam cursed silently under his breath as he was dragged helplessly back to the kaiser’s castle, and tossed unceremoniously at his feet.  The summoner raised his head and looked at the master of metal with utter contempt and anger, he knew his time had run out.  ”…Kaiser.”  he said, knowing trying to plea or anything else would be absolutely pointless in this situation.

The Kaiser stared down at the summoner with loathing boiling in his red eyes. Though not for the reasons one may expect. He showed no signs of recognizing Adam and approached him with the indifference that he would show to someone he just met. Picking him up by the fabric he wore he lifted Adam high into the air and glared into his eyes.

“How did you get here? No mortal should be able to cross the shores of the Isles without my knowing it!” Throwing him into the ground Mordekaiser continued his angry interrogation. “Do you have something to do with all these invaders? My kingdom is completely surrounded with enemies inside its borders! You must be a spy sent by them!” It was then that the dark paladin noticed the curse mark on Adam. Without the heavy summoner robes to hide it it showed as clear as day on the summoners exposed skin. Mordekaiser went dead quite after seeing it. His eyes were wide with shock. When he finally gathered the nerve to speak again it came out in short, nervous breaths.

“How… how did you get that mark?! Only I can leave that imprint, its a sign of my curse. You soul is bound to my will in death with that present!” The Kaiser shook his head, he began to clutch his helm and pain as the anon’s magic acted as a barrier, keeping his memories away. “But I never cursed you! I would remember such a thing! Who are you! What is happening!” Seeming somewhat desperate his summoned his mace forth and leveled one of the razor sharp spikes not inches away form Adams head.

“Speak the truth! Now!”

Adam's eyes widened as he saw the Kaiser's frantic and quite frankly, terrified expressions.  It was as if he was a completely different man, what happened to him?  Whatever the case, this was his chance to perhaps turn it all around, this sudden change could possibly be manipulated, all he'd have to do is spin a few yarns and he could potentially get the curse removed.  Yes he'd just have to lie to the kaiser. "...You gave it to me when I attempted to stop you from receiving knowledge on advanced summoning techniques, which you then destroyed.  Ever since then I have been attempting to remove the curse, and have constantly opposed you." The summoner blinked and looked at himself in mild confusion.  That wasn't at all what he had wanted to say...why did he speak the truth? He decided to try again. "I am Adam Herrick the summoner at the league of legends.  I am there as a summoner because the Institute pays for my medication on the sole requirement that I work as a summoner in training, they seek to keep me under my thumb because while getting work is easy for them, getting reliable work is rather difficult." Adam face-palmed and sighed, that didn't work either.  For some reason he was unable to lie, could it be a side effect of the magic that brought him here?   "...Would you mind getting your mace out of my face?" He figured if he's going to be honest he might as well go all out.

Unfortunately for the summoner sneaking was completely out of the question on this particular night. The Shadow Isles was brimming with activity as various spirit soldiers marched themselves to different strategic locations as if they were positioning themselves for a all out attack on the Isles. In the thick of it all was the Kaiser himself, shouting orders out to the various souls in a angry and harsh voice. “I don’t know how my army multiplied so dramatically in size but I’m not going to question it. You will be useful in repealing the invaders from my land!” It was then that he noticed the summoner who stood out like a sore thumb against the masses of transparent souls. 

“A mortal!?!” The Kaiser shouted with unfathomable amounts of rage in his voice. “Seize him at once!” He commanded and immediately the undead soldiers turned to face Adam and lunged forward to grab him.

After all his plan wasn't to slow them down but to simply lose himself in the darkness of the forest.   Once Adam had reached a suitable area, he ditched his robe for the black undershirt and pants underneath, setting it on a nearby branch.  The undead weren't necessarily known for their smarts, so perhaps they could be fooled by this simple trick.  He then took off in another direction...only to be stopped by a ghostly hand grabbing his throat.   Adam gasped in shock to see a line of ghosts were standing in front of him, the kaiser must have sent them around the other side, anticipating the summoner's movements, which made sense for someone who knew the isles so well, like Mordekaiser. Adam cursed silently under his breath as he was dragged helplessly back to the kaiser's castle, and tossed unceremoniously at his feet.  The summoner raised his head and looked at the master of metal with utter contempt and anger, he knew his time had run out.  "...Kaiser."  he said, knowing trying to plea or anything else would be absolutely pointless in this situation.
