elliot’s relieved to hear his choice had been a good one - he had hesitated at first, unsure if it would make aspen uncomfortable to revisit the familiar restaurant. “i’m glad i am too. lots of…memories here.” he smiles, somewhat sadly, suddenly aware of the space between them, the space he had wedged between them by leaving. “she’s sweet.” he adds, eyes finding her over by the kitchen for a second before he looks back at aspen. “uh…” he blows air from his lips, clicking his tongue as he blankly looks at the menu, trying to figure out where to start. “i don’t even know where to begin, uh, it was amazing.” as much as he had missed aspen while he was away, and his family, and his friends, he had fallen in love with the city wholeheartedly, a fact which he now felt guilty for. “the scenery is beautiful - central park, ahmazing, the statue of liberty, a queen, the empire state building, iconic.” he looks up to meet aspen’s eyes, smile wider now as the words fall easily from his lips. “the theatre, aspen, oh my god. broadway feels like a collective hug from every dorky theatre kid ever.” he enthuses, knowing aspen would get it. “it’s expensive as fuck, but that’s life, i guess.”
aspen wants to ask if those memories include him. obviously, they did, but what was elliot thinking in his head ? aspen was thinking too much, getting distracted by the thought of them being together again. god, he wanted it -- but what if elliot went back to new york ? he didn’t want to be broken again. thankfully, he’s distracted by elliot gushing. god, he was cute when he was passionate. aspen’s eyes are full heart-eye mode , watching and listening and he talks. when elliot’s eyes meet his, aspen is sure he can see the love radiating from his eyes, like NOTHING had changed. but a lot had changed, aspen knew that. aspen, a huge fan of broadway, nods enthusiastically. “i need to go, like -- i’m jealous. i want to see a broadway play in the city more than i want -- pretty much ANYTHING , and i’m determined. i don’t even care what it is , although if it’s waitress i’d probably PASS OUT. anyway -- anyway ! ” he chuckles softly, he’s always wanted to see a broadway play in new york. “that’s life.” he repeats softly, still smiling as he tucks a piece of hair behind his ear. “did you uhm -- meet anyone ? are you dating at all ? ” he always FINALLY , the question dying to come out of his lips. “ sorry it’s not really -- my business. i just want to know everything i missed. ”
