“Really?” Vinnie let out, a bit shocked, “That’s… wow. And I thought I saw kids for a large chunk of the day, that’s literally… you’re raising them. Not to be rude, I’m sure the family is great and they’re employing you which is awesome, but why even have kids?”

“I don’t know, but there’s another on the way,” she shrugged. “I don’t mind it. I see it as good practice for when I have my own. And it’s not so bad when school’s in session, I get a lot of time off then. Well...I won’t really when the baby comes, but I take what I can get.”

rory nodded his understanding, “don’t worry i get it. if there was something i could do so that all this would be over, i would. of course i would.”

“I know,” she nodded. “No one’s sitting around being glad this is happening and wishing it would keep happening.”

“Miniature Schnauzer.” She nodded, “He’s pretty cool, I guess. He can be a little cheeky, but I wasn’t expecting anything different.”

“Cheeky how?” Eleanor wondered. “A face like his, I’d let the little guy get away with anything.”

“That’s an understatement. It’s never a good thing when I’m busy.” Bryony nodded, “We do and it’s the least we can do.”

“Can I buy you a coffee or something sometime? As a thank you?”

“Okay so you’re a nanny, right?” Vinnie let out, watching the girl, “So how does that work? Like, do you live with the family? Do you watch the kids all the time? When do the parents step in and you step out? I’ve honestly always been so interested in how nannying actually works.”

“I watch them about eighty five to ninety percent of the time,” Eleanor nodded. “I’m at the Jameson house by seven am so I can help the kids get ready for school and take them there during the school season. Both parents work full time, so I spend most of the day with them. The parents step in sometimes in the evenings, but more often than not I’m kind of doing the parenting. I leave around eight when the kids are going to bed.”

he frowned, “honestly, i think maybe just to incriminate us,” he said quietly, “but i do also think there’s a good chance that this is all just some random psychopath and we’re all overthinking it.”

“Maybe,” Eleanor frowned. “I know I sound like a broken record and everyone in town is saying the same thing but...I’m ready for this to be over.”

rory shrugged, “people do a lot of awful things for money,” rory answered quietly, “as awful as it sounds. there’s every chance i’m wrong about that being why, but it is a theory that seems to make sense to me, especially with the targets up until this point.”

“I can’t speak for the other northside girls who got attacked, but I don’t have any ties with the gangs. So I don’t understand...why us? I don’t know the other girls well, but I’m just a nanny who kept my head down. I just...I don’t get it.”

“It’s fine, I’d do it no matter what. I get a bit how you’re feeling, so I’d like to help in anyway we can.” Bryony sighed, “I wish we could tell you more.”

“We all wish this could be over,” Eleanor frowned. “But being kept in the loop means a lot, it would be easy to shut me out. It’s nice to know you guys care.”

Although there wasn’t exactly anything Bryony could’ve done to help Eleanor, she couldn’t help but feel a little bit guilty, knowing how she must be feeling in this moment. All she could do was work overtime and do her very best to try and sort this out. “It’s fine, we told you we’d keep you updated as we went by. We’ll find them, Eleanor. You can ring me at any time, you know.”

“i appreciate you taking the time out of your day to talk it over with me anyway,” she nodded. “You’re all crazy busy right now but...knowing the details makes me feel...calmer, somehow.”

“yeah me too,” he said. “i’m glad you went though, it was fun before everything went down,” he said. 

“It was good to get out, see everyone all happy and dressed nice,” she smiled. “It was beautiful. Did you have fun?”

“for one thing, the serpents and the ghoulies run very lucrative businesses in riverdale.” between the drug running of the ghoulies and the hired guns of the serpents, if a gang from another town, greendale say, wanted to take over, it wouldn’t be hard to imagine why they might want to disenfranchise the existing gangs. “so someone outside looking to capitalise? trying to take us down makes sense.”

“I never thought about it that way,” Eleanor frowned. “But I guess you’re right. But even still....serial murder seems like an awfully terrible thing to do for the sake of money. Maybe I don’t get it,” she shrugged. She had grown up with privilege, never understood why people joined gangs in the first place.

felix noticed a familiar face, they had chatted a few times so he wanted to see how she was doing as well. he headed along “hey,” he smiled softly at her. “how are you? were you at the ball?” he asked now. @sungeleanor

“Oh, hi,” she smiled. “I’m doing better. I did go to the ball! It was lovely until...well. I’m sorry it ended like that.”

Darcy turned to the other person, the smallest smile on her face as she held her new pet puppy. The brunette had seen him in the nearest shelter and without much consideration, adopted him. “Yeah, Milo is pretty cute…And no, I’m not going soft..”

“What kind of dog is he?” Eleanor questioned with a smile. “He looks like such a little darling!”

“look, maybe it isn’t that simple, but…” he trailed off, “that’s what i get from it.” he admitted, running his hand over his head. “i just think the target is riverdale. in general.”

“I just have to wonder why,” Eleanor frowned. “What did the people do to this person, what does he have against this place?”

‘’So it’s all good?’’ Nox wondered from her side of the ground. ‘’No need to call an ambulance?’’ the brunette joked.

“Not this time,” she replied with a small smile as she stood up. “A couple of scraped knees won’t be the end of me.”

angel chuckled. ‘’impressive, I mean gosh I could never,’’ she shook her head. ‘’what do you think about the heat, though, doesn’t bother you to look after wild kids when the heat is crazy hot?’’

“This summer isn’t as bad,” Eleanor explained. “After what happened to me, Mrs. Jameson got more paranoid. So the kids and I generally stay inside with the air conditioning unless we’re in a car going somewhere else with air conditioning like an indoor play place.”

‘’is it fun work? I mean kids aren’t my favorite thing but I know a lot of people like them.’’ she gave the girl a smile.

“When they’re good, they’re incredible and there’s no other job I’d rather have,” she said with a smile. “But they are young kids, so sometimes they can be a bit wild and I need a break. But I adore kids, so I’m happy overall.”
