“Yes!” Ki Jae cheered. “It’s a really nice bar! It’s not creepy, or anything. I take my girlfriend here sometimes. I think you’ll like it. Do you like drinking?”
“Do you really? That’s cute, how long have you guys been together?” Sungmin smiled and nodded at his question. “I like drinking. I haven’t been to a bar in a while, though. Uh.. if you don’t mind me asking, how old are you? You don’t look old enough to drink, did you just turn 21? “
She looked at him with wide eyes until she realized they were joking. “Oh, thank god.” She playfully wiped the fake sweat off her forehead. “You must be a miracle worker because I sure as hell can’t.”
Sun chuckled a bit, shrugging their shoulders. “It wasn’t too hard. I’m sure you would be able to quit all of that too, if you ever really wanted to.”
“All of them are in Korea? Wow. Only my mom’s parents are in Japan. I went once, but they’re usually the ones that visit. Mom doesn’t like me taking long trips in case anything happens…” he explained. “You should go to South Korea to visit them. I mean, it’s expensive but it’ll be worth it. You’d get to be with family and stuff. Do you at lest talk to them on the phone or video chat?”
Kai rolled his eyes playfully and smiled. “I wouldn’t be so confident if I were you.”
“Yup, they’re all in Korea. As far as I know, I’m the only one in my family living here in the States. I’ve always wanted to go to Japan. We should go on a trip together, one day. Don’t worry, I’ll take care of you. ” Sun smiled, nudging him a bit. “I talk to my mom on the phone a lot, but I’ve only talked to my grandparents a handful of times. They were really brief too, maybe it’s ‘cus my Korean isn’t the best?” Sungmin shrugged a bit, tucking their hair behind their ear.
“We’ll see. All I’m saying is that you should prepare yourself.”

“I will literally fight you on this Sun. After dinner, we’ll come back and I’ll clean it up,” she said, pointing at him and putting on what was supposed to be a serious look on her face. Jimin let them lead her to the towels and started to dry her hair with one hand, mumbling out a quick “thank you” before Sun took her hand again, leading them into their bedroom.
Jimin stopped drying her hair for a moment to look at the selection before her. Sun wasn’t lying about being fashionable, this was something that she very well now and now standing in front of their closet, all she could do was stare. “I look super nice in everything I wear though, don’t you think so?” she said with a wink. “I won’t lie, the sweats are tempting me…but it’s probably hot out and I’m sure the last thing you want is to take a sweaty friend to dinner so…I’ll just let you dress me. You pick.”
“We’ll fight it out after dinner then, I’ll thumb wrestle you.” Sun laughed at proposition. They were both stubborn in that sense, but Sun was determined to keep their ground.
Sungmin nodded in agreement, “Yes, do you, you look stunning in everything.” Even if she was just joking, Sun couldn’t help but agree. Upon hearing her suggestion, crossed their arms and took a moment to look at Jimin up and down. “Let’s see...” they murmured in deep thought. After a few second, they then snapped their fingers and immediately turned to their closet, going through all of their clothes until stopping at a white blouse. “Okay there it is! So you can borrow my pants too. They might be a bit big on you but it’ll be like those ‘boyfriend jeans’ everyone wears nowadays.” With that said, they walked over to their drawer and pulled out a pair of ripped jeans. They laid the clothes out on their bed before giving her another grin. “Does that look okay? I mean, worst case scenario we can try on some other clothes. “
But the world is best with sex and drugs. Now you have to tell me why.
“I decided to dedicate my soul and body to God.” Sun spoke, taking a moment to look at her and offer a smile.
“Kidding. Honestly, I wanted to clean up my act. I wasn’t too far into that world, so backing out was pretty easy. Turns out I can survive without sex and drugs, who knew?”
“No, I have not. The most I’ve done with old people is play card games. My grandparents love those.” he said chuckling lightly. “They’re not as crazy intense as those old people you play bingo with though.” Kai added. “It is a fucking challenge! Loser buys the winner ice cream.”
“Aw, that’s so cute!” Sun rested their face on their hand, looking at Kai as they spoke. “I never met my grandparents. They live in Korean and my parents moved here before I was born. I kinda wonder if they’re like the old people I play bingo with. They’re really cool actually. They’ve all tried to kick my butt at least once, but they’re really nice.“
Sungmin stopped their rambling for a second, then drummed their hands over the table. “Deal! I don’t wanna rush you, but the sooner we leave the sooner I’ll get my ice cream.”
“No don’t clean, I’ll mop it. Technically, I should since I made the mess…” she frowned before chuckling at their offer and taking their hand. “I wouldn’t question your style and a change of clothes would be nice, if you don’t mind lending them to me. I’ll wash them and return them back to you as soon as possible,” she sighed, looking down at her soaked outfit before returning her attention back to Sun. “Dinner? Well now that you mention it…I am getting hungry…”
“No, no! Don’t even worry about it. I’ll deal with it later.” Sun helped her up then began to lead her out of the bathroom and to their supply closet where they kept extra towels. They were careful not to splash around too much water. Thankfully it wasn’t anything too excessive, so it wasn’t much trouble to get out. “Here you go.” They said, opening the closet door and grabbing a towel before placing it over her head, then grabbing one for themselves. Sun then took hold of her hand again to lead her to their room. It wasn’t the nicest place, living in NorthEnd and all, however they tried their best to keep everything tidy and well put together.
“Okay so! Dresses, skirts, sweatpants, sweaters, t-shirts, yada yada, I have it all. What do you wanna wear? If I’m gonna be taking you out to dinner then you have to look super nice.” They said teasingly,
“I wasn’t thinking that, but I like it a lot. It’s, like, fashionable?” He tapped their nose with the tip of his finger. “You look totally punk-rock now. Congratulations!” Tae ho grinned and raised rock-hand in salute.
“When I was a kid, I thought about being a model. High fashion sort of thing. That was just mostly because I liked the idea of someone doing my hair and makeup and nobody giving me crap for it.” they admitted. Sun crinkled their nose at he tapped it, letting out a laugh. “This is the closest to punk-rock I’ve ever been. I’m glad I can kinda pull the look off. Thanks to you of course, I should ask you to help me find new clothes more often.” They nudged him playfully, grinning at him.
“Vegetarian everything is a thing.”
“Then we have nothing to worry about! Let’s go!”
“I’m terrible too, we can be terrible together,” he nodded, his laughter worry-free. The last thing he was worried about was making a fool of himself - life was too short, he figured. “Exactly, now that is the right attitude. How hard can it be?”
“Okay, we can be terrible together. That makes me feel a lot better.” Sun admitted, smiling at Albie. Going out of their comfort zone was something Sun wanted to try doing more this summer, so they were glad they were able to do something that wasn’t too scary to them.
“The next step would be for you to become famous so we can be in Dancing With The Stars. --- Okay! Let’s do this then. “
The man laughed and shook his head. “My food’s fine. You served me too much anyways.” he said as he picked up his drink and took a sip of it. “Do I look seventy to you? I’m not playing bingo. But if you wanna play so bad, we can just go to the arcade so I can kick your ass at every game.”
“Okay, but have you ever been to bingo night? Those old people are passionate as hell. One of them almost threw a chair at me for winning twice in a row. Then the lady next to me told me to fuck off. It was so intense--- Excuse me, is that a challenge? You are so on.”
“Fuck you, Gastly!” Fang shouted, completely unaware of his surroundings as he tried and failed (again) to catch the poisonous Pokemon. He jabbed at the screen of his cell phone, cursing the ever-crashing Pokemon Go server. “You’re not even that great, geez, you’ve got– you’ve only got sixty four CP? That’s nothing! You. Will. Be. Mine.”
Sun couldn’t help but jump the moment they heard someone shout. “Ah!” they exclaimed, almost dropping their bag of groceries. Sun turned to the source of the shout, eyes wide “Are you ok- oh.” Seeing that the man was just looking at his phone, Sungmin couldn’t help but let out a relieved laugh. Mostly embarrassed for having reacted so strongly to a simple shout. “Oh okay, phew. You scared me there for a sec, I’m sorry.”
“We’ll just, start with a little trim…how about that?”
“That sounds perfect and if you could just avoid snipping my ear off, that would be greatly appreciated too.”
“I’m a doctor. Trust me it won’t hurt. It’s just a little vaccination.”
“I absolutely hate needles. I don’t know how people who get Botox and lip injections can deal with having needles so close to their face.” they rambled, looking away from him so that they didn’t see the needle. “Have you ever heard of ‘bagel head’? It’s this trend in like, Japan or Canada I think, where people inject some sort of liquid into their forehead to their forehead swell. Then they press their finger in the middle to shape it to look like a bagel. Some people think it’s really pretty or cool but that looks insane to me.”
“I think the dress looks fine on you! Stop worrying!”
“It’s really cute, It’s just.. I’m not used to wearing something so... short. I have to admit though, my legs look fantastic. “
“I’m failing to see where this is actually all that bad. A lot worse has happened to me in my twenty-four years of being a sad excuse of a human being in this world. A little possession and death would merely be footnotes,” he said lazily, giving a shrug. He wasn’t exactly sure why he felt so liberated and fearless, but it felt good. Taking risks in general felt good.
“Lay the ground rules. You don’t use the thing where you sleep, you say goodbye, and you don’t be a fucktard and fuck around with the thing. Other than that I think we just put our finger on this shit and start talking.”
“You don’t really think like that do you? How do you manage to sound positive and pessimistic at the same time?” Sun asked tilting their head a bit. Sungmin was amazed at how nonchalant he seemed about the entire thing, when they were trying their best not to freak out.
“Okay so don’t be an ass. Got it,” they placed their fingers on the piece and looked at Manny. “Uh.. This thing didn’t come with a safety manual by any chance? Or like, a ‘what to do to avoid getting possessed by the devil’ pamphlet?”
