"i mean can you even set an oven hot enough to start a fire without putting like, paper or something super flammable in it?" these were the things fizz was sure he'd actually know if ozzie let him use the kitchen back home. "shouldn't whoever makes ovens in general make sure that isn't possible? especially to help people who like us who want to cook faster?" they were obviously the most important customers for whatever the fuck business was in charge of ovens. "it also saves on cleanup so we're not wasting water to wash a knife that was useless anyway. hopefully we won't like burn our tongue off testing, but i don't think they get that hot."

"i doubt it! i feel like they wouldn't sell them to people if they were that dangerous." it would be something that you would need a permit for, wouldn't it? and she was pretty sure she never signed anything about oven safety. "i think they have to have some kind of failsafe in them that it can't be that dangerous to use. i mean, i think children help in the kitchen!" setting it higher couldn't be that bad to at least get this done faster. "i think we'll be perfectly fine, we lived in hell i can't imagine an oven is going to feel all that hot, all things considered."

"...kaya?" seeing the other there is a relief, of course, but also disbelief, considering everything she'd heard about the fall of the jedi order. she'd been convinced the other was dead, and while she'd vaguely heard that things like that didn't always matter here, that hadn't really processed for her yet. "are you- what in the stars happened to you? i heard about the order, did you survive?"

"oh thank the force--" kaya ran at the sight of their friend, throwing their arms around ahsoka. relief washed over them, knowing that someone else had shown up, someone who knew them and could really understand what happened.. though, they had to have that first hard conversation, figuring out what the kriff happened to each other. "nothing good." they started, shaking their head as they pulled away. "i returned to the temple when the distress signal went out.. i needed to find alek, i barely made it past the steps before i was surrounded.." they paused. "did you?"

"did howl tell you they met my sister yet?" josie asked as she moved around the store casually. helping to restock where they needed. "have you met her yet? looks exactly like me but sass is on like level 10."

"it hasn't come up yet, no." she shook her head, setting another box on the counter for josie to get through when they were done with the current one. it was nice to have an extra pair of hands around during inventory, at least an extra one that could help. not just rummage through for imaginary potions like morgan was. "i'll have to keep an eye out."

"sophie?" that was the question that left megan's lips as she looked at the familiar face. it wasn't as if they had met a ton, but she would be able to pick out her brother's wife anywhere. it was then she managed to give the softest of smiles. "it's good to see you."

"megan? i didn't know you had gotten stuck here too." sophie was entirely surprised to see her sister in law, and they knew howl was certainly going to have far too many mixed feelings about her being here.. but at least it was nice to have someone else from home, someone familiar. "you too.

"yeah, me too, of course." angel promised, despite the fact that he was already planning on how to get incredibly high tonight. still, it felt true enough, considering his typical attempts to stay sober around his sister. he didn't need her to assume that every time he acted a little weird was because of drugs, though maybe it was already too late for that. "you met husk? what did he say about me?" and whoops, that sounded a little pathetic. "i didn't realize you had been meeting my friends." he added, hoping to at least cover his tracks a little bit. he sighed, shaking his head. this wasn't what was important. he needed to be serious. "i'm okay now mols, i promise, there's nothing for you to do. i had some serious amnesia going on. i don't even know what happened. maybe i was out and slammed my head or something, but it's sorted now, swear."

"i guess i'm glad i know but still, can i just.. ask that you don't go on a bender in front of me?" she hated seeing her brother like that, to know that he was struggling so hard that he couldn't stay sober to even just have a conversation at times. molly never judged anthony, she never would, but seeing him struggle only hurt, especially when she wasn't sure there was anything she could do to help right now. or if there was any help he would actually accept. molly snorted at the question about husk, seeing the look in her twin's eye immediately. "he couldn't stop fawning over how beautiful you are, obviously." she teased, shrugging. "i've met a few of them actually. the hotel is really nice, everyone has been super welcoming when i was there. i was looking for you and husk mentioned you lived there, so i was sort of.. going around every few days to see if you had come back." her own version of pathetic, but she didn't know how else to check up on him. "i am here, you know? for anything. you don't have to bury whatever is going on just so deep under everything. i'm here to listen, when you're ready."

"i didn't say it was a dumb conclusion, you had very little of the necessary context at that point." though he does scoff at the next comment. he did mostly trust dain by now not to do anything that would harm violet, but the idea of her mind being reset to when dain was a paragon of all that was good and right did make him vaguely ill. "mira and i have an understanding, dain... we still can't fucking stand each other, but he knows i'd never hurt you." at least not in his right mind, and if anyone told violet about the one exception to that before he could figure out how to explain it to her, he'd seriously debate killing them. "right, of course not. you had no desire to fuck me back then." he can't even say it with a straight face, honestly, laughing about halfway through the sentence. he'd almost forgotten how hard they'd both tried to pretend they didn't want this, like they weren't barrelling towards this very end at top speed from the first moment they laid eyes on each other. "i know you want to know everything, violence. and i promise, i'll tell you all of it, answer any questions for you. but if i try to give you the whole story in one long lecture, i think even your brain will go into overload." it might take her longer than someone else to get to that point, but she would get there, probably around the reveal of venin being real and brennan being alive, and that wasn't even half of the story done. so small, palatable chunks first, and then the bigger and more terrible truths. "nope. we've been here for years now, and we've both had our memories wiped more than once in different ways. don't ask why or how, i don't know." and he knew full well that that would annoy her, hell, it annoyed him too. but it was the unfortunate truth of the matter. "the government has been hiding things a lot bigger than tyrrendor, vi, trust me when i say that's fairly low grade in terms of things they've covered up." the venin, the truth of the gryphon riders, the histories that might save them all in the end, the list went on. "...i don't actually know if it has. it was a... pretty abrupt wedding, and i needed to run as soon as it was done. i'd only just gotten tyrrendor back, and i needed someone to take the throne while i was gone so she didn't go back to the king."

"what context? you finding me hotter alive than dead?" what really could have been his reason for not wanting her dead anyways. she wouldn't blame him if that's how it started off, but things changed. her family was responsible for his father's death, and she knew her mother had taken it very personally after what happened to brennan. "that almost sounds like you can get along with both of them. even in just a professional way with dain." that was more of a shock than anything else. "does dain feel the same?" she assumed he would be holding onto more of a grudge than violet ever was. "you have no way of knowing if i did or didn't. you weren't in my mind till after threshing." she pointed out, assuming that he didn't even start using their connection till later than that. he has a point however, at needing to take things in chunks, because if there are any more bombshells than the ones she's already experienced, she's pretty sure her brain will explode. "fine, small chunks. but i want to know everything before other people start just telling me things thinking i'll already know. if i have to hear about some other bombshell information from a random person, and not from you, or mira, then i'm going to be pissed." she just wanted to be on the same page as everyone else. "how do you not know--" so not important right now, but gods, she hated that she couldn't get answers to everything. "okay, sure the venin is a big thing, but you would think hiding an entire territory would be pretty fucking difficult! especially when you all know it was still very much functioning. how did they get all of you to keep quiet?" granted they were children who had just lost everything, she could imagine they didn't want to immediately challenge the entire government. "i don't know anything about running an entire territory, xaden! you think the people of tyrrendor are going to be happy you left her to a sorrengail?"

"honestly, that might be a good idea, vi." she knows how much violet relies on her scribe upbringing, even after so long as a rider, and going back to those basics might help her to adjust to all of this. they were determined to help violet actually get her memories back, but for now, they would do everything she could to help her deal with the lack of knowledge that had to be killing her. "yeah, you guys have been friends for a while now. i know it probably feels like an insane whiplash for you, but this is pretty normal." and thank fuck, because her friend deserves an easy time for once in her life. "yeah, i think it's a kink thing for you guys." she replies, not even attempting to suppress a giggle at the idea. "they know. but we did go rogue for a minute there."

"trust me, i'm filling about three notebooks when i get home, everyone is getting their own so i can keep track of who said what." there had to be a way to fix this, but until then, she was going to just try to fill in as many gaps as she could, getting help from everyone in the city that knew her. luckily it seems like she had gotten all the big things out of the way, now it was just the details. "very intense whiplash. but i'll take being friends with her over her wanting to kill me. it is not fun having a giant fucking target on your back." she laughed, eyes going wide at the comment from rhi. "shut the fuck up, you-- that's--" did she even have a defense? gods. "my moms gonna kill me for going rogue. but leadership hiding this all seems... very wrong. why wouldn't they want us to know what we're fighting."

at  least  with  violet;  andarna  recognised  her  instantly.  there  was  no  questioning,  there  was  no  doubt.  this  was  her  violet.  “you  are  here.  you  are  safe.”  she  mused  with  relief.  “violet,  i  do  not  understand  what  has  happened  to  me.  why  i  am  now…  human.”  she  tried  to  hide  her  discomfort  but  it  probably  wasn't  very  easy.  “but  it  is  me,  andarna.”  she  explained  before  walking  slowly  towards  the  other.

it isn't until the other says her name that the confusion eases from violet's face. "oh!" at least she had already seen tairn, had been filled in a bit more about her bond with her dragons as well, so she wasn't starting off from nothing with andarna. "somehow dragons are all being turned into humans when coming here. tairn and sgaeyl are humans too."

"how long have you been in?" samara asked curiouly to the other. they weren't the same branch she could see that. shed never even thought of joining the air force, they werent wild enough for the every she needed. but she did share an interest for air crafts.

"a few years now. i like being in the air so much, i needed to find some way to make a career out of it. and my mom was very much a 'you're going to follow in my footsteps' type parent." as much as she had wished she could have been a scribe, she was sure that being a rider was where she was meant to be. it made sense she had found her way into this city's military as well.

"like someone messed with them fucked with or something else?" they asked, brow furrowing slighlty. it was strange, vi had been his friend for the last two years and to know she didn't remember anything was slightly worrying. "is there a reason it happened or? is it just random?" they asked. "I could really do without forgetting about things, we need all the brains we can get with you out of commission kinda,"

"don't know really. the only thing people have said is that you lose or gain memories from dying, but i don't think that i've died.. xaden would probably have mentioned that at the very least." she was positive, if nothing else, she would be told if she had died. but she woke up in their bed, perfectly safe. "jesinia has been researching as much as she can, but there just isn't much to find about how all of this works."

"I don't think anyone is," as far as she was aware, nothing like that had ever happened before and she was sure that the other dragons would be as angry as she was with the situation. sgaeyl raised a brow at the girl, head tilting slightly. "so it seems something has messed with what you remember, then?" she asked. sgaeyl wondered if xaden had anything to do with it, but she wasn't going to jump to conclusions until she'd spoken to him.

"that's the running theory. xaden says i'm missing a few years of memories now, we aren't entirely sure how." at least sgaeyl seemed to understand quickly, and didn't look more annoyed about the situation. the last thing she needed was to piss of a dragon, human form or not. she wouldn't put it past this city to still have them be capable of breathing fire. "i don't remember anything beyond my first few months at basgiath. last i knew i was a few weeks from threshing."

"yeah, I get that," they nodded. "it's hard people telling you shit that you don't remember, I've been in your position before," not that their sister would remember that part. "come on, there's a place not far from here that had nice food and strong drinks,"

"i guess it's easier that i at least remember some of it. makes it more digestible.. not entirely, the whole venin being real and being a duchess isn't really easy to wrap my mind around." violet laughed a little. "but having two dragons is pretty fucking cool." she follows her sister out, letting mira lead them.

he chuckles just a bit at her obvious irritation, an expected response to what he'd said. at least she's still herself in the ways that matter. he can deal with a rider who's a bit lost at the moment, he couldn't deal with a rider who was fundamentally different to the girl he'd come to care so deeply for. 'the boy who attempted to kill andarna. you stopped him, and that is why we both chose you.' the bastard had turned in the end, slaughtered his dragon, it made it all the more clear that violet had done the right thing in standing up to him that night. she should've killed him then and there. 'he turned into one of the dark ones, and abandoned you with a kingdom and no memories of gaining it. and he took my mate with him when he fled.'

there's a sense of familiarity and comfort in having tairn there, as if a void was being filled that she didn't know needed it. a door with a light behind it again when it had gone dark before. it helped her adjusting to these memories everyone was trying to remind her of. it made it easier to believe some of it. a boy had tried to kill andarna.. someone tried to kill a dragon.. 'it had to have been jack. no one else would be stupid enough to kill a dragon.' who else would think they were above it all than him. though, she has to admit, she's impressed with herself just at the idea that she stood up to jack. the comment about xaden however stops violet for a moment. 'he told me he turned, that i apparently killed him here in the city because he tried to drain me.. he seems to be fine now. apparently i was able to turn him back? but the disappearing explains why he doesn't have much more to tell me about us getting married.' the idea that tairn's mate disappeared from him as well seems more unbelievable. 'i didn't know mates could leave each other that way.'

'how are you feeling? has anything come back?' jesinia asks, concern for her friend written across her face as they look over the other. 'i've been trying to look into anything that might help, but i've really found nothing so far.'

'nothing. i'm starting to think they're gone forever.' violet replies, appreciating how concerned her friends were over this, that everyone was trying to find some kind of solution. 'thank you for looking. from what people have said, it might just take time. or i die. guess there's no in between.'

"uh, yeah." liam nodded his head, his brows drawing down in confusion. he was still getting used to remembering everything and he had to be honest, it felt a little strange for violet to look at him and not really recognize him. "i'm doing okay. i think it helps that i didn't really remember anything about from home until recently."

"your memories got messed with too?" violet hadn't gotten to really talk to anyone who had it happen recently.. it seemed common enough, but it was still nice to know someone else had gone through it. even if she doesn't entirely know how she lost only some of her memories. from what everyone had said before, it was really an all or nothing type of magic. "everyone's been telling me i'm missing memories too. considering my dragons are here and remember me, but i don't remember making it to threshing, so i guess they're onto something."

"come on, let's go," imogen wasn't taking no for an answer. "we're going out for drinks and you're not going to say no - I miss my friend and I don't care if you hate me right now, we're going to forget everything and get drunk,"

"go where?" violet was surprised by the familiarity, how easily she felt herself listening to imogen as well. there had to be so much more history than she knew of, as if she only scratched the surface of this life she supposedly forgotten. "i don't hate you. i figured you hated me." she pointed out. "... alright a drink sounds good."

"we should be doing training," eros paused. "but it's so nice outside and I don't feel like doing anything, so I think we should get some lunch and coffee and go find somewhere nice to sit and do anything but training,"

"and then i get my ass beat when aunt kore wants to see what i've been working on?" vesta stared at their dad for a moment. "you just wanna see me get knocked on my ass so you can laugh, i know it." they accused with a laugh.
