quack! @miyouzue
Middle-school Sunmi once thought that the events of one’s life could be likened to a plateau---a little rocky on the way up with its bumps and jolts and ever changing terrain, but then peaking around oh, perhaps mid-twenties or so. But each passing year teaches her differently, and this past one has been no different. New Year’s Eve---the moment old flows into new---felt like a desperate gasp for respite amidst what has been a relentless, dull pummeling of her spirit beneath the highs and flashes of glamor. Too much, too fast; and again the current has grasped her, ushering her unforgivingly and ungracefully into the new month.
And so when the foreign, warm January air of Los Angeles International Airport engulfs her yet again, she steps happily into it this time---this time, without her manager, any stylists or teams of photographers. Just her, and mere minutes away---her girlfriend. In the day that spanned her end-of-year stages and her flight, Tiffany is all that’s been on her mind. If the past year has been the churning current of a river, Tiffany has been that rock she’s held fast to, despite it having been a tough one for the both of them. Starting off 2018 with a precious few days together is exactly what Sunmi needs (not to mention she regrets not being able to step into the year’s first moments with Tiffany), especially here, where the two of them can much more easily fade into American anonymity.
Having passed the customs checkpoints, Sunmi strides swiftly across the airport’s smooth tiled floors, her single carry-on rolling along behind her. She only breaks pace long enough on the escalator down to baggage claim to send her girlfriend a hurried message: [KKT] I’M COMING DOWN NOW!!!!---before hurtling along down the last few steps and past the carousels, eyes already wide and searching as she passes the doors to where Tiffany (hopefully) awaits.
