In Blackwater Woods (1983)
*through gritted teeth* no one has ever loathed themself into getting better, you have to love yourself a little to change
i wish there was a way to say "you're right, but this is really ineffective and even counterproductive messaging to anyone who doesn't already agree with you" without sounding like an asshole
I've reached the point where cynicism is a major turn-off for me. You're not smarter than idealists, and you're not helping.
Just because the person you’re targeting is vile does not mean there is ever a justification for dehumanization. If you believe in removing someone’s personhood just because you don’t like them, you do not actually believe in the universality of human rights. This is because a person does not have to agree with you in order to be a person.
Additionally, the moment you use discriminatory language to insult the identity of a person you hate, whether it be their gender, ethnicity, sexuality, religion, or ability, you acknowledge that identity as an inherent character flaw and cease to be an ally to an entire community of people who have never done you wrong. btw.
I don’t know if this is an obvious take or a hot take, but I think people need to start re-framing feminism as the fight for body autonomy as opposed to whatever this second wave revival gender essentialist bullshit we have going on right now. Once you reframe it in this way, it’s easier to understand intersectionality and why cis women are not the only people who need feminism. The lack of body autonomy effects cis women, trans people, intersex people, disabled people, poc, homeless people, sex workers, etc. and your feminism needs to include and prioritise all of these groups of people (which will include men btw) because feminism is about autonomy, not about establishing a matriarchy. Body autonomy is the biggest threat to the patriarchy, both with reproductive rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and even the right to not be drafted into military services. Once body autonomy is established for everyone, the patriarchy no longer has a leg to stand on.
And body autonomy does include things that you don’t personally like either. I was prompted to write this post after a series of bad takes from progressives, but one of them was re-hashing the Sabrina Carpenter album cover drama with “I don’t think it’s conservative of me to think that the album cover is a bad look when we’ve seen images of women being abused in this way” because I do actually think you’ve failed to understand feminism by projecting your morals onto a woman who was consensually expressing her own autonomy just because she expressed it in a way that you didn’t like or that made you uncomfortable.
Body autonomy also means unhealthy choices. Body autonomy also means regret rates. Body autonomy also means freedom of sexuality. Body autonomy also means mutilation. If you believe body autonomy has limitations and exceptions, then your feminism is most likely surface level.
TERFs are some of the biggest opponents to body autonomy, and if you find yourself thinking “oh people can do whatever they want with their bodies as long as it doesn’t harm them or make others uncomfortable” then you are far more susceptible to TERF propaganda than you think.
pretending to be aloof and Uninterested In The World doesn’t make you cooler than people who openly express their interest btw.
GenAI is an apprentice of human endeavour that will never surpass its master because it can only regurgitate what it has eaten. It is a false prophet and its oracles are stolen!!!
You are neither of your parents and they do not see themselves in you. This is both an affirmation and a curse.

The uncanny valley effect except its the breeding of hybrids in captivity from the perspective of the mother.. to be trapped in a space with something only You enough to be vaguely recognizable; it is your offspring, your flesh and blood, and yet you see only an alien still
some thoughts after watching Send Help starring Rachel McAdams and Dylan O’Brien:
subverts gender power dynamics in a way that seems to intentionally make men uncomfortable- the ‘fixing’ scene?? Jaw dropped.
Asks the question of “can a character be the protagonist AND the antagonist?” (answer: if the audience is watching for the plot/rooting for Linda, she is the protagonist. If they switch sides and root for Bradley, she becomes the antagonist. Her role depends on the neutrality of the fourth wall.)
Purposely withholds scenes from the audience to make us a reflection (a product?) of Linda’s denial/gaslighting. We are not just observers but active participants in the psychological thriller
Bradley’s arc was typical of stranded-on-an-island characters: learning skills to survive. Linda’s arc was the opposite because she came to terms with killing (innocents). Bradley wanted to leave, Linda wanted to stay. Both would do anything to achieve their own goal. Their parallels are natural enemies, which both foreshadows and precipitates the final confrontation.
The progression of Bradley, from being 1) the obvious villain (obnoxious useless privileged bully) to 2) the dude who Does Things in Reaction to his Situation to 3) oh shoot, the victim?
The competence of Linda was soo satisfying, coming from someone who watched Scream 7 recently
Bury your nepo babies
Everything comes back to golf
When was the last time a woman did something truly twisted and still got to live happily ever after? [good for her] Memorable moments:
Linda, covered in rat’s blood, smiling at a paralyzed, petrified man: “My kindness does not make me weak”
Bradley, after Linda claims Zuri’s death was an accident, “just like your husband’s death was an accident?”
and when the monster they’ve warned us about for years finally comes crawling over the distant hills, I will stare the oily, writhing mass of Fear Incarnate right in its ugly face and cut out its heart and swallow it whole.
It will taste like blue raspberries, I think, and five summers ago.
gender is, at the end of the world, a social construct. It is Meaning made up of Nothing and then given a name.
You get to pick the name of your own monster 🫶
