Discovering My AroAce Identity

In 1995, Girl Talk was my AroAce awakening. I was 11 at the time. I felt befuddled about the questions that related to dating, crushes, and future partners. Up to that point, I thought romance and woohoo a thing made up by writers and Hollywood directors. A fantasy, a fiction, a mythical creature like dragons and trolls. What a mind blowing moment to realize that people actually experience romantic and sexual attraction. I spent the rest of my teenage years confused about what this revelation meant. Was I broken? Was I defective? Was I an alien from a distant planet? It wasn't until I was 19 when I found the term ace and then aro through AVEN. Only after discovering the word AroAce did I have the "wow that me" moment. This word made me feel whole, normal, and human. There were others out there like me. I wasn't alone. I had a community, a place where I belonged. 🥰
