Sometimes I forgot how crazy you sound when explaining Starkid to people cause yesterday one of my IRL friends gave me permission to infodump on him about Starkid and somewhere I ended up saying that the best gay rep Starkid has ever done was Voldemort/Quirrell and he looked at me like I was insane.

been a while since this went down but JKR is a holocaust denier and i will NOT let people forget it just cause she has a shitty series coming out.

I am on board the "don't buy or consume HP content or merch where it could in any way support JKR's bank account" but, to be frank, engaging in harry potter fandom via fan art and fanfiction ISN''T profiting JKR at all--especially if you go out of your way to call out the OG's shameful behavior and rhetoric, and to craft stories and art that is inclusive of all people. There are tons of queer people who don't deserve to be shamed and bullied for playing with the stories, characters, and concepts in the made up universe they love. I have nearly a dozen gay, lesbian, trans, and nonbinary friends who have confided in me that they have been harassed and called slurs for simply reading and writing HP fanfiction. That is so beyond not cool.

I have one trans cousin, in particular, who struggles deeply with mental health and disability, and just general everyday life. She has been treated like trash by her so called friends and allies for merely enjoying the books which she already owns (i.e. which are not new purchases, and are not supporting JKR's finances). She writes HP fanfiction and has long enjoyed and depended on the found family she's gained within the fandom, except now she's constantly fielding slurs and threats and flat out dehumanizing, hateful, anti-trans language from OTHER PEOPLE IN THE LGBTQIA space. This is not okay. In the pursuit of social justice, some of y'all have completely lost. the. plot.

Don't get me wrong: I definitely see the point of and also support ethically opposing the purchase of actual HP content like books, movies, merch, etc., but fanfic and fanart are a totally different story. My love for my trans and gay friends who depend on the HP fandom for escapism far outweighs my hatred of a woman whom I'll never meet, and whom my friends' fandom interactions will never support.

Lets all just try very, very hard to practice what we preach, and not let our hatred for a bad woman obscure our kindness towards the very people in our community whom we purport to love unconditionally.

If you support trans people, don’t watch the new HBO show. The way jkr has ruined her legacy with her bigoted behavior and hatred is despicable. Trans women are women and we need to protect their rights and NOT make every woman’s life more difficult and disguise it as feminism.
