Episode 2 of Hazbin Season 2! It was super fun to be back in heaven. Firstly, I boarded the lil convo that Pentious & Emily have after the trial. I kept it pretty simple since the upcoming song has so much going on lol. But I also wanted the pangolins to physically be there cause I thought it’d be cute haha.
1st song of the season that I got to board was “Like You”! It was a ton of fun. A lot of my brain power was coming up with spots in heaven that they could go to. The first shot that immediately came to mind when I heard the song was the one with Pentious staying in place but the BG around him changing haha. I mentioned before but I super put a Black Friday reference into the bg that I’m so happy made it in haha. I also have to thank our awesome directors/supervisors. That super cool Gurren Lagann-esque shot of pentious was a suggestion from our killer board supervisor Melanie Shin! Also SERIOUS shout out to everyone on the design, layout, color, and animation team. I know I threw a lot at y’all with this one, but it all came out SO incredibly good!! <3
Next up I had the privilege to board the song “Sera’s Confession”. Just an absolute powerhouse of a song with two incredible singers. I had a fair amount of guidance for this one. There was a very clear vision which made my job a lot easier! Lots of awesome shot direction from Melanie again. My biggest direction was to take some inspiration from the song “Hellfire” from Hunchback of Notre Dame, which made me INCREDIBLY happy haha. It’s my favorite Disney Villain song. I tried to give it a lot of religious angst and show the reality of what Sera had done in a very literal and visual way. It was a nice change of pace to have a bit of a slower, more ethereal/epic piece to board to in contrast to "Like You" which is so fast and peppy and up beat haha. Tried to have a lot of light pouring in, lingering shots, visual metaphor. Oh, also just a fun visual thing I liked. I wanted the song to start in the light, get covered in cloud and shadow, and then come out the other end light again. Felt like a nice arc within the song, the Speaker being the one to help Sera come back into the light. Once again, design, layout, animation, color all so on point.
