Warm drink on a cold night
Final part of #rivalsduospooktacular! Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ
Although the lights were on, the kitchen was seemingly empty. No intelligent life form in sight... with the exception of his cat on the counter. Purring, the cat jumped towards Dream.
He turned to leave, but as the cat purred at his feet, he paused. Kneeling down he picked he picked her up cradling her in his arms. Dream scratched at her chin and watched as its purr grew louder. "Meow!"
"Meow!" Came a hoarse reply beneath the counter. Dream's eyes shot up to the figure emerging.
"Techno?!" Dream practically yelled. Scaring Patches out of his embrace.
"Are you trying to wake the neighbors?" Technei scolded.
Dream stomped towards the man, rapidly closing the distance between them. Dream reached out, arms wide open. Misreading social cues as he usually does, Techno braced himself taking a defensive stance preparing for a brawl. His hand discards the shards he just cleaned to cover his jaw. Techno's eyes fixed in place locking with the charging man.
Techno caught the other's arm redirecting his force until they switched places. Dream clashes with the counter. "What the hell?" Techno huffed, still defensive.
Dream groaned in pain rubbing his back, he glared at Techno. "Ow! Dude, seriously?!"
Techno sputtered, "heh?! You're the one who started charging at me!" Techno argued.
"I thought you were dead!" Dream threw his arms in the air.
Even more confused, Techno matched the other's energy. "Heh?! Why would I be dead?!" Making a gesture to himself.
"Well," Dream paused. "I dreamt that you did..." He sighed, "multiple times." His voice softened, cowering in embarrassment.
Techno stared, "I find it a little concerning that you dreamt about my death multiple times, Dream." Techno was now resting his arms on the counter behind him, his back pressed against the marble.
"He looked at Dream with confusion, he wasn't sure why he told him this.
"Uhh...I mean, I look fine to me." Techno paused, "do-do I not look fine...?" Anxious and self-conscious, Techno wondered if something was wrong about him that made Dream ask such a question.
"Well-" Dream wondered if he should continue, "you said you were being followed, so I just wanted to know if you..." He trailed off.
For a moment, Techno looked as if a lightbulb went off in his head, "Ohh!" He drawled, "oh, that?" He mused. "Yeah, it was nothing." He laughed, dismissing the event. "It was just some mugger with a knife, guy had the audacity to charge towards me, but I took care of it, y'know? I mean, who even mugs someone with a knife anymore? Dude, that's so..." His minds scrambled through a dictionary of words trying to describe his encounter, "old...?"
Dream frowned, a guilty conscience clawing at his back. His mind tuning out Techno's voice as he rambled, thoughts whizzed by replaying the death of his friend.
"Anyway, I took care of him! Didn't learn Aikido for nothing after all!" He flipped his hair. "And they told me it'd be useless—nobody actually said that, everybody was pretty supportive about it, but for the character growth I can pretend, y'know?" He pointed.
"Steve was the useless one, he just stared at me as I tried to pin the criminal down! I kept yelling at him to go get help, but he'd just bark and stare! Absolutely useless!" Techno rambled.
"Techno, I'm sorry for ditching you like that." His fist curled, crumpling the paper he held. "I should've come to-" his eyes met the other, pausing as he did so. Help you? His mind drifted back into the nightmare he just saw. He shook the thoughs away, eyes fixed on the other's. "I should've gone with you in the first place."
Techno stood taken aback. "Dream, it's fine. I handled it." He smiled.
"I know, but I'd hate to be the reason you stop existing." His voice softened.
Techno clicked his tongue at the silence, "Well," he drawled, "sorry about your glass." He quickly raised his hands. "I swear it wasn't me! I just set the glass down, your cat jumped on the counter and pushed it!" He shook his head, "you gotta believe me!" He laughed.
"It's fine, she does it all the time." His eyes drifted to the ingredients on the counter, especially the thawing milk. "What were you making?"
Techno turned to the powders behind him. "I was trying to make hot chocolate. I got chilly outside and wanted something warm and good."
"Why grab a glass then, idiot? Get a mug for that!" Dream stood on his feet, walking towards the cabinet next to the other.
"I couldn't find any, besides a glass holds it just fine." He argued.
With a roll of his eyes, he dismissed Techno. "Okay, yeah, sure! Just hold a glass full of hot chocolate, I'm sure that'll turn out great." Dream shut him down.
Rummaging behind plastic containers, Dream pulled two mugs from the cabinet After handing the ceramic to the other, Dream began reaching for the powders on Techno's side of the counter. Formulating his own.
"So, uh... what happened to the mugger?" Dream passively asked, eyes fixed on his own mug.
While, the other froze, whipping his head to the other. "Did you not hear me telling you about it?!"
"I may have been a little lost in my own head." He admitted.
"Bruh." He rolled his eyes. "Whatever, the guy got away, but if they every try that shit again they're as good as dead." He grinned. "They'll have to train for another 100 years if they ever want a shot at beating me!" He declared dramatically combing over his hair.
Dream laughed heartily far from his iconic wheeze. It looked ridiculous watching the pink-haired man with a bedhead in front of him look so smug in his pajamas, let alone making hot chocolate.
Techno, on the other hand, felt awkward. "What're you laughing at?" He glared.
From the corner of his eyes, Dream could see a slight pout. "Oh... nothing, just good to have you back." He said with a sip of his drink. Immediately to be followed by a wince, "Ow! Hot!" He slurred as his the tip of his tongue stung from the burn.
"Ha!" Techno laughed, mocking the other.
"Shut up!" Dream gritted.
My brain is fried, school is wringing me dry. Barely pushed through with this. Art is SUPA rushed, do forgive me. (^._.^)√
