Something I noticed when I analyzed Silver's character is ofcourse his character.
Silver as a person is an inherently disciplined and morally good boy with strong familial and filial duty to Lilia. Loyalty to his Leige and camaraderie with his fellow knight (Sebek). But I never once figured out why Silver kind of bugged me in Twisted Canon. Maybe his character isn't expanded well beyond him just being extremely loyal and thoughtful of his family. Which is fine but also it rather....just makes him all about family.
I was interested in Silver as a person. An individual. What did he love? Philosophy? Thinking? Sure the diafam is a huge deal in Silver's life but I also—in my opinion—think Silver is a bit dependent on them. I noticed how Silver often said that he feels a sense of duty to his fae father and fae family which makes sense. Given that is his family. But, I also realise and had an epiphany that the reason Silver feels dependent and a huge sense of duty to Lilia was probably more to do the fact of being raised in isolation. Silver, from what I heard so far, didn't go to school so no middle or elementary school. Silver wasn't influenced by humans as a whole. He grew up among faes. And, I know some people would probably jump me but Lilia was a terrible parent.
Now, context matters. Lilia was a fae, raising a human with no experience, which was fine he didn't have much experience and didn't know what was appropriate to do (Lilia would be astonished to know babies died of everything and anything, human illness from the simplest of symptoms or colds or fevers). I love Lilia but it also makes me angry with him as well as the way Lilia at times behaves with Silver. It is played for laughs when we see the Lilia cooks radioactive food but imagine it clearly.
Imagine a human baby, maybe six months or eight. Being fed totally toxic things that can potentially be fatal. Silver grew up like that, he admitted it himself that his father's cooking gave him bad stomach pain. I cannot imagine what he fed Silver as a toddler when he started solids. Anyway, Lilia was inexperienced as some could say but then why didn't he take help? Why didn't he consult books, human doctors, pediatricians? He must have atleast done research (look me in the eye and tell me before you buy a pet, do you or do you not research the best possible care for them?). It was never mentioned that Lilia took any help, from what I know it was MALLEUS who consulted books and helped Silver.
Also, am fairly certain Silver is traumatized by the things he had been through childhood but due to being in an environment not influenced by human kind. Silver simply compartmentalized everything.
Yea I will shit on Lilia, he took a responsibility and didn't do shit on development and anything. Silver grew up the way he did was because of no human influence (whether that's a good or bad thing is another factor but it definitely influenced), he literally didn't know how to internalize the experiences he had. HE THOUGHT IT WAS NORMAL AND IS MILDLY SURPRISED WHEN PEOPLE SAY IT'S NOT, THE CHARACTERS TELLS HIM THAT TO HIS FACE WHEN HE TELLS THEM ANY CHILDHOOD STORIES.
Guys, we love diafam but why are we as fans not seeing the issues Silver has. He is a human in fae society, they're fucking stronger and operate on a different standard of morals and beliefs. As a humanities students, if there is one thing sociology taught. It is that environment is everything.
I love Silver but he definitely has unresolved issues that is going to haunt his ass when he reaches adulthood and develops his frontal lobe properly.
Also why are we forgetting that Silver will be a human retainer against people who lives the twice his lifespan and is made of MAGIC. There ain't no way, Lilia actually thought that "yeah, what can possibly go wrong by encouraging my human son's dreams of becoming a knight to a dragon fae who will be targeted by rivals twice his lifespan and power! :3" I genuinely have a theory that Lilia and Malleus literally made a pact that they would both entertain Silver's dream of being Malleus's retainer as Malleus could protect Silver when Lilia isn't around to do so. Yeah, Silver can't defeat any fae unlike his father because his father (KOD) had THE SWORD ( a magical blade similar to the Sword of Truth) which helped him and I'll be real I don't think Silver is as powerful as his dad to do what he did.
Anyway, I want to know Silver as an individual rather than through connections. It's heartwarming the found family stuff but rarely do i find analysis of Silver as a character. He is a fascinating character with many multitudes and potential but he is rather overshadowed by twst cast due to his RSA-like personality and non-villainous nature.
