One aspect I wished both twst and the fandom explored more are the consequences of Jack’s actions in book 2, because what he did is basically social suicide.

Guy went against a plan everyone in his dorm, including Leona who he used to idealise, had been on. This plan, as bad as it was, was for a lot of Savanaclaw students their nearly only hope to get scouted and make it as pro. That is ground to give birth to a lot of resentment, and Savanaclaw was shown to be quite the brash dorm, I don’t think they would forgive Jack that easily.

And like… Jack already had issues in Savanaclaw beforehand, seeing how he was targeted by a group of nearly 30 students who wanted to beat him down if he didn’t stop playing for the dorm, and only got away thanks to Leona’s intervention (see Leona’s dorm card vignette, which happens before book 2). And now with Jack being the reason their plan failed, the reason why they lost to Diasomnia again and couldn’t be scouted? Yeah, they are not going to kindly stay put, even if Leona and Ruggie try to step down. To them, Jack is a self-righteous snitch and traitor, and wouldn’t those kind of people deserve the consequences of their actions?

And it’s not like Jack would have it much better outside his dorm, because how many students are aware of how exactly Leona’s plan failed? There was only the Heartslabyul gang and the Diasomnia family in the confidence, so for most of the other students, all of Savanaclaw’s students must have been in it, including Jack. Heck, considering that Jack was in the Spelldrive team and the whole plan was about it, it would make more sense for most students that he was an accomplice.

And sure Jack would still have friends with Yuu, Grim, Ace, Deuce and Epel (and much later Ortho and Sebek). But is it enough when everyone else are against you? When not only your school environment but also the place you live in full of people who resent you and who would be showing it very clearly? When you are the target of endless cruel words and angry violence, because you dared going against an unfair plan that injured people?

The only times I hear all of it being mentioned is usually in first years centric fics, but it’s usually just that. A mention by Jack during some conversation that he isn’t too comfortable at his dorm, but nothing more. No going deeper, no exploring what could be happening to him. And I don’t know, I think it would be an interesting aspect of both his and other characters to explore.

There was a time when, in an attempt to explain why there were no characters with curly or kinky hair in Twisted Wonderland, I theorized that wavy, curly, or coily hair were rare genes (in that order) and considered extremely beautiful. This happened before I realized I could alter the characters based on my headcanons. Anyway, since Leona, Vil, and Neige had somewhat wavy hair, they were considered very beautiful.

Malleus runs from loss and change because he wants to run from the fact that he can feel afraid. To be above his subjects and humans means being above regular vulnerabilities like fear. If he's just like them in this regard, instead of differently flawless and omnipotent enough to be his people's ruler and deliverer, then he's failed at the purpose he was born for, that so many people sacrificed and died for him to be born for. Fear is worse than wickedness because fear is useless.

Malleus has such an interesting and ironic relationship with utility. It's one of my favorite parts about his character because it's both funny and tragic

Salt to the wound that only he knows feels because he's good at everything except the one thing he wants to be good at...helping others💀

^ Referring to the multiple instances where he tries to do something helpful/comforting (favors can also show his goodwill and bring people closer to him) using his most defining asset (magic), only for it to backfire awkwardly and disastrously and sometimes leaving others with an even WORSE impression of him (Lantern fire incident in Briar Valley, Spectral Soiree ghost party, Dorm uniform vignette with the housewardens, the entirety of Book 7, almost unleashing thorns to liven up the party venue in his First Birthday Interview... etc.)

"Malleus doesn't make any effort to get along with others" is something fans usually say and in some ways it is true. He does technically work hard to learn what topics or ideas he doesn't know; but even though he wants people to get closer to him, he's not ready to see those prospective companions as EQUALS (because his identity as fae king needs to be defined off superiority and inferiority). That's the one thing he's not yet willing to work with when trying to connect to others

Also only seeing connections as above or below is the reason why Diasomnia has all their miscommunication angst (that caused the events of Book 7 to begin with)

They can't differentiate between completely doing something for someone else/someone else doing everything for you (serving either below or above) VS working alongside someone and WITH them, which is why they keep thinking they need to bear burdens alone and be the one protecting the others to keep being worthy of them. To also bring up what a mutual said about this before: because theyre so close they've probably spent so much time together acting like this, that they think they completely understand what the others want and that they should be content with this relationship

Malleus as a character and Diasomnia as a group are very compelling for these reasons...I'm simultaneously eager and dreading to see where the story is taking them

I headcanon (and hypothesize) that blot is actually more dangerous to non-magic users than one might think.

Since blot burns through magic, what happens when a mage’s magic runs out? Well, they die. BUT, I feel that the process is somewhat similar to how a human body burns energy- it uses carbs, and if no carbs are present, it uses fat, and if no fat is present, it begins to burn muscles.

In terms of blot I imagine that once blot has no magic to burn through, it starts burning through the body of the overblotter (or whoever is present), which causes the demise of the mage. This can lead to things like blot burns on mages and non-mages who make contact with blot. And of course we KNOW blot hurts (via the manga and anime, mostly).

All that being said, I think Yuu probably sustains more damage from each overblot than anyone thinks, and the overblotters themselves probably have some gnarly burns.

one thing that i desperately need to be explored is the the juxtaposition of Minajael as the only child and Kalim as the older brother with 30+ siblings, and how it relates to the concept of freedom

imagined Mina and Kalim talk about their experiences as heirs to powerful families, how lonely and isolating it is, how they aren't allowed the chance to do things "the normal way"; and then it gets to the unpleasant stuff like kidnappings and assassination attempts, 'cause if a merchant heir gets those it's likely that a royal heir does as well?

but when Mina brings up the option to just run away to live freely (as a joke ofc, unless...) Kalim would give him an uncharacteristically serious look and say: "I can't let the fate of an Asim heir fall on my younger siblings"

which is like? OOC ig??? because Kalim's attitude isn't exactly about awareness and conscious acceptance, right; it's more like ne never considered that things can be different, which is why he just accepts kidnappings & poisonings as something mundane. but also like? Kalim and his "I can't die, because what if my killer later regrets it and there'd be nobody he can apologize to"??? imo it's not that much of a stretch to suggest he might be holding onto his position so that his younger siblings won't have to shoulder it instead?????

to be clear, i'm not saying that Kalim should stay where he is and deal with whatever bs the "fate of an Asim heir" entails, it's just. yeah. fascinating to consider the similarities and differences between those two.

When you think about it, Rielle probably wasn’t very popular in the Coral Sea like I’ve seen a few fan works depict him as. He was probably just as much of an outsider as Azul was, he just wasn’t relentlessly bullied because no reasonable person would think it’s a good idea to bully a prince who’s dad is very protective of.

But like, Rielle was the kid with ADHD that would run off and cause trouble for everyone in doing so, talk people’s ears off about a subject literally no one had an interest in besides Rielle himself, would collect and bunch of random garbage and probably show it off to people like it was gold, and he never was interested in what everyone else was doing. No one ever said anything to him directly, but there were almost definitely gossips and whispers about him and how “annoying” he was. From time to time he’d get a snarky comment like “Don’t you ever talk about anything else?” or “Geez, late again?” but he probably brushed them off or it went over his head.

I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s some part of why Azul hates him. He calls Rielle a naive prince. Because Rielle was always clueless to how other people felt about him and how his actions were perceived by others, meanwhile Azul spent years being under direct scrutiny from his peers. He was always aware of how people felt about him, and that pain followed him all the way to high school, where he thinks of the way children would sneer at him years ago when he’s simply deciding what to have for lunch. Rielle got to live unaware, while Azul will never live unaware and he suffers for it.

But Rielle isn’t as naive as Azul believes. Yes, he is reckless, single-minded, maybe a bit stupid; but he has never been naive. He knows how people perceive him–as a child. And he hates it. Just as Azul hates all the little nicknames he was given. He knows how people perceive him and he wants to prove them wrong. And I hope he gets to prove Azul wrong too.

Adding on to this, Rielle and Azul had the perfect chance to be best friends as kids. But Rielle was likely too fixated on his love for humans/life on land to take notice of Azul and Azul probably thought Rielle would just bully him too. And now that chance has passed them by…

Headcanon that Rielle eats a bunch of strange concoctions because he wants to combine the best of land food and/or doesn’t quite understand it. Like, he sees people putting condiments on a hotdog and then proceeds to put a combination of several condiments on a hotdog bun WITHOUT THE ACTUAL HOTDOG ON IT and eats it like a sandwich. (No, his dorm mates do NOT trust him in the kitchen-)
