cis women who get top surgery just so they can walk around topless are so incredibly valid
Just finished Persona 3 Reload (no version discourse please. i know this isn’t twitter but i want to be safe) and Akihiko is a really funny character because you get to watch the writers realize in real time that they made him look way too gay and backtrack
the sillies
breaking my silence as a huge fan of both persona 5 and ace attorney: i don’t think akechi is anything like miles edgeworth. they have some surface-level personality similarities, and i can see a few of miles’ lines being said by akechi, but other than that their only real similarity is that they’re one half of their fandom’s most popular yaoi ship.
after miles’ biological father died, he was unknowingly taken in by his father’s true killer, who he grew to love and rely on as his mentor and foster father. the world believed his foster father to be the greatest in his field, unaware that he was bending the rules and exploiting people in order to gain that reputation. he was raising miles in his own image, with high expectations and more than a little emotional neglect, all for the purpose of carrying on his own legacy. the people around miles would see that he wasn’t happy, though, and someone vowed to save him; though he was initially staunchly opposed to it, believing he didn’t need saving in the first place. until this person forced the truth about his mentor out, of course, and miles could no longer deny it. not only was his mentor’s reputation built entirely of lies, but he was his father’s true killer. miles falls into despair over this knowledge, but eventually, resolve grows from that despair. the one who saved him, by succeeding in doing so, has inspired him to save others. while throughout his character arc he is constantly compared to his former mentor, tainted by his legacy of crime, miles vows to forge his own path in his profession separate from his mentor’s influence and redefine what prosecuting means to him.
there’s a character in persona 5 who ALL of this applies to, if you only replace biological father with biological mother, and prosecuting with art. yeah, it’s yusuke. he literally has the exact same backstory as edgeworth (and a character arc with many similarities) and i am surprised i’ve never seen it mentioned before.
who is akechi, then? well, i’ve joked before about him being angsty anime boy luke atmey (and come on, you can’t deny the similarities), but ultimately i think he is simeon saint. the secret mastermind with a false good-boy personality that could’ve been saved if someone had just gotten to him a little earlier. obviously thats a gross oversimplification of both of their characters but it gets the point across

(To the tune of Rasputin): BLEH BLEH DRACULA, KING OF TRANSYLVANIA, HE IS A BAT AND ALSO A MAN
ivantill ryukita.., yeah
tbh im really curious as to specifically why rook covers up his freckles. it's clearly shown to be something he just chose to start doing on his own (vil did NOT make him cover them that is misinformation!!) and ive been pondering this for a little while because rook hasn't talked about his freckles himself that much, but i believe it stems from rook just generally not seeing his own beauty in nearly the same high regard he does others
for all the preaching rook does about others' beauty, there's a specific detail - he NEVER talks about himself in the same way. confidence in his abilities sure, but even then, whenever he's directly praised for his strengths, he's shown to regularly shift it onto complimenting his peers too instead of just himself; This seems to go more beyond rook just having a strong sense of humility as well.
rook has a very apparent lack of self worth. we see this through many aspects of his character, primarily his disregard for his own livelihood and ignorance towards his safety, but this is also shown through his opinions of himself as well. furthering this point, in rook's savanaclaw portrait voiceline, he says that he had even forgotten what he looked like before he transferred, because he had always ignored his reflection in mirrors.
we also see this through the several moments where rook actively blames himself for things that are out of his control, for example in book 7, where, even after waking up crying and confused, he blames himself for forgetting those memories despite having no clue what what was going on. Or in book 6, where rook talks about dealing with persistent nightmares due to his guilt about vil's overblot, even though he knows it's extremely unlikely he could've prevented it even if he stepped in more.
i think this is also a part of what makes his and vil's relationship so special too; vil taught him how to care for himself, and in the process taught him how to love those aspects of himself as well. the story from their first year (where vil helps rook get dressed up for a neige event) shows this especially well - rook says that it was the first time he had ever felt that happy about how he looked, and from that point on began taking pride and appreciation in his appearance and care for himself.
but there'll always be a part of rook that views himself as lesser. he seems to be much more critical towards his own self, and this extends to his appearance as well. he doesn't view himself in nearly the same adoration he does the people around him, and i think him hiding his freckles may come from that.
another aspect to this is that i think it could be possible that, to him, his freckles may also serve as a reminder to who he once was. switching to pomefiore meant that rook was no longer alone. he learnt not only to care for himself, but what it was like to have friends and people who truly care for him too.
ervia but its cis (bisexual) butch erza on T with top surgery x baby transmasc juvia pre-everything (for now). do you hear me
I’ve seen the take that “persona 5 doesn’t acknowledge that its characters are teenagers/would be the same if the main characters were adults” around a few times, and it baffles me every time. The fundamental themes of the game wouldn’t even EXIST if the main characters weren’t teenagers. the whole game is literally about being a teenager in a society where unjust adults can and do control you, the inherent helplessness that comes with being a teenager, and how teenagers will often see and attempt to fight back against injustices in society when adults don’t care if things change or are leaving all their problems to the next generation.
I’m so disappointed when I read a character description and a woman is described to be “tall”, then I look at her height and she’s like 5’7-5’8. where are the 6’+ women you cowards
