Headcannon - Genji
Genji used to use a bow. While training, Genji always wanted to use a bow like Hanzo could. With the precision, confidence and skill that Hanzo could. But Genji never got praised the same way that Hanzo did. Genji got called cute for mimicking his brother, and teased for following in his shadow. Late one night after dinner, while Genji should’ve been getting ready for bed, he snuck out into the training field. He got out his bow and started practicing, mimicking what Hanzo was doing earlier. He started getting better. He ran past each target, quickly shooting off an arrow that hit the bullseye. Each time. Genji was impressed with himself, howling in success. It soon was silenced when he looked over his shoulder, seeing one of the elders look down at him with a disappointed glare. When confronted, Genji explained he was trying to practice with the bow, and he got better, if the elder could just look at the targets- But the elder was not having any of it, and got him in trouble for sneaking out of the living quarters at night and making a racket. This is also when it was engraved in his brain that Hanzo would only be the one who was ever praised, and Genji would only ever be ridiculed and undermined. So, he resulted in causing more issues to get the attention he so desperately craved.Â
