Here’s the first chapter of many of my new fic!
A small snippit has already been posted on here if you want to read that before <3
The air in the room was thick. Nancy could feel the sterile sting cling to her throat, coating it in all the shit she wish she had said. A silence had overcome the room, stress had filled the space that sound had occupied.
Only Nancy and Steve stood there now, the doctors all having left. They both knew they were about to break, yet both were too stubborn to finally crack. Nancy couldn’t let it be her. She needed to be strong, for her and for the others. She needed to be their pillar, a beacon to guide them back from the hurt that permeated throughout her odd family.
So Nancy and Steve stood there now, listening to the heart beats and the shallow breaths that came from their best girl. “She’s going to be fine, Nance,” Steve stated, although the slight break in his voice wasn’t so sure, “She has to wake up- She- She,” Sobs racked through his body as he dug his palms into his eyes.
Nancy moved immediately, walking around the bed to where Steve was stood and enveloped him in a hug. She knew that if she spoke, she would break, totally and irrevocably break, so she just held him and he seemed to understand.
They stood there now, Steve’s head on Nancys shoulder, Nancy looking at her unconscious lover, wondering why her, why now, why ever? So many unanswered questions, so many that Nancy wasn’t sure she wanted the answers. All she wanted was her Robin. All she needed was her other half, her soul and her home to wake up.
Yet, in life you don’t always get what you want, and that was something Nancy was beginning to believe.
She was at a party. Steve had dragged her along, much to her dismay (although Robin knew that she would be there). Somehow they had been separated, leaving a slightly tipsy Robin to roam around this house full of plastered teenagers in the hope she’d see her.
It was a foolish thing, she thought, as she wondered towards the kitchen for another drink. She couldn’t like her like that, right? As Robin wondered she thought over the past few days. She would call every day, even come and visit at Family Video every shift, yet since that happened, Robin hasn’t seen her. Maybe she’s sick of me?, Robin wondered as she sipped her drink and made her way to the bathroom.
The door was shut but Robin wiggled the handle and the door clicked open, revealing a very small looking Nancy Wheeler sitting in the tub with her knees to her chest and her arms wrapped around them.
She quickly wiped tears from her eyes and looked up at Robin, almost scared. Instead of leaving her alone, Robin got into the other end of the tub and sat cross-legged opposite her. She knew that if she left now, they’d have nothing left. If she left now, they would probably have never spoken again, which was in fact the worst thing Robin could think to happen to her.
Robin just admired her. She admired the faint blush in her cheeks that were stained with the brown mascara that Nancy used to compliment her eyes. She admired her soft summer freckles and the way she looked so beautiful. She admired her strength and her bravery. She remembered how smart and powerful Nancy truly is.
“Are you sick of me, Wheeler?” Robin whispered, trying to elevate the awkward yet warm atmosphere.
“Not yet, Buckley” Nancy huffed, with that soft laugh Robin adored. A strangling silence sat with them, chocking them to say something, anything.
“Where did you go, Nance? That day. You just left me in the back room with no explanation or anything. And then- then you don’t call or come by. You won’t answer the phone. What happened?” Robin said, staring at the doodles she had drawn onto Nancys converse, anywhere but her face. She couldn’t bare to see Nancy hate her.
“I-,” Nancy faltered, her voice cracking slightly. Robin looked to her now, into her eyes, which were slightly glazed with tears, breaking Robins heart.
“I was scared, okay? I’ve liked you for so long but i didn’t know if you liked me back. I just thought you were so cute and kind and just wonderful, i just felt like you deserved more than me.” She continued, adding under her breath with a wave of envy, “maybe Vickie.”
“Oh Nancy,” Robin smirked. She liked seeing this side of Nancy. Robin unpeeled Nancys arms from her legs and pulled her legs towards her, eventually lifting her onto her lap. Nancy squeaked slightly, until she was stable and wrapped her arms around Robin’s neck.
“You are perfect to me,” Robin started, bringing a blush to Nancys cheeks as their heavy breaths danced, “No one, not even Vickie, compares to you. When i kiss you this time, please don’t run away”
Robin held her hands against Nancys hips as their lips touched for the second time, even more magical than the first. They were needy and passionate, the pair making up for lost time, weeks of tension and pining finally coming to fruition. Robin pressed slightly harder into Nancy’s hips , gaining a throughty moan as they kissed.
Once they had come up for air, Nancy whispered, “I definitely shouldn’t have ran away.”
Robin laughed at this and kissed her again, softer this time, gentle. She then trailed soft kisses across Nancy’s jaw and down her neck while Nancy pulled on her hair. Each of their moans harmonious which each other.
“Uh Robin?” They heard, followed by loud banging on the door. The immediately stopped, paralysed where they we sat.
“What do i do?!” Robin whispered to Nancy, her drunk mind unable to figure out what comes next.
“Say something i guess?” Nancy whispered back, slightly giggling at the idea of being caught.
“Yeah?” Robin shouted back, waiting for an answer.
“It’s Steve, i was thinking of going home and you don’t have a ride,” Steve started, slightly slurring his words as he spoke.
Nancy turned to look at Robin now with a sultry smile and lent towards Robins ear. Her breath ran down Robins neck sending goosebumps over her body and losing her train of thought, “Come home with me” Nancys fingers trailed a path down Robins neck where her mouth followed.
“Uh Steve I think i’m gonna stay” Robin immediately replied to him, eagerly agreeing to Nancy’s proposal. Nancy’s laugh against the base of her neck gave her chills.
“Rob, are you in there with someone?” Nancys wide eyes then shot up to Robins in panic. She shook her head frantically.
“Umm, No?” She replied, sounding slightly unsure. “I-,” Steve stuttered, “Just get home safe, yeah? Tell me about her tomorrow.”
“Aye aye, Captain.” Robin joked as that panic had eased slightly. After a pause, they heard heavy footsteps from Steve’s combat boots heading away from them.
“Follow me” Nancy said, but before Robin replied, she grabbed her hand and dragged her from the tub. Clumsily, Robin got out of the tub still holding Nancy’s hand, almost tripping face first into the sink.
They clambered out of the bathroom without care of who saw them holding hands or saw the development of hickeys on their necks. In this moment they felt free, infinite, completely their own. They knew that this night would be their’s forever and always. So they ran.
They ran past the multitude of drunk teenagers and through the front door. They ran past Nancys car which they were both too drunk to drive. They ran laughing the whole way and hands unfalteringly intertwined. They ran against the wind, as if the world hadn’t almost collapsed on them and they hadn’t almost died. They ran as if they weren’t being chased by a demogorgan but by the thrill of life and love. They ran to feel alive and not to escape death. They were both free. Free to live and free to love and free to feel something. They ran until they reached Nancy’s home. Her bedroom. Her sanctuary.
They laid in Nancys bed now, after changing into pyjamas, Robins of which had been a stolen t-shirt from Mike. Their body’s intertwined, with Robin tracing her fingers over every curve of Nancys face.
“Is this real?” Nancy whispered, running her hands over Robins bare back under her shirt as they gazed at each other, “Are you real?”
“Baby, I am very real. We are very real.” Robin paused for a minute to articulate what she was about to say, something Nancy knows she does once she has something important to say.
“I’m in. When it comes to us, i am all in. I want this for us. We deserve to have some form of normalcy after trying to save the world. Nance, we can have this. I know it’s scary but we have each other. I will be by your side until you don’t want me there. We deserve this” Nancy brought her hand up to Robins cheek, speechless. Robin placed a soft kiss on her wrist and added, “So, are you in?”
i don’t want to get lost. i want to make a big fat stain on the world. a stain so big that i’ll never be forgotten. i want this stain to be enjoyed. i want it to be hated. i just want it to be there. because living a full life only to die seems like such a waste if your life is forgotten. i do not want to be forgotten
Professor Keating once said to seize the day, yet somehow i feel like my world might implode if i did. I wish i could romanticise my life and believe what i want is within reach, yet i know i can never obtain it. Its just so far out of reach that it hurts to know ill never be able to experience the joy and sheer amazing-ness of it. I lay awake at night wishing it was with me, i walk around and i can smell it in the air. Its next to me at the lunch table, yet so utterly far away that it kills me. The worst thing is i know it doesn't want me in return.
Robin had a secret. She didn't hide it but she tended not to broadcast it to the town. Steve knew and that was enough for her. She could live her whole life with only Steve knowing if she had to and that would be enough for her.
Nancy had a secret too. She did't tell anyone either but oh how she ached to feel known. Nancy wanted to be known. She could do anything she wanted to and she wanted to be known.Â
One time when driving Robin home from Family Video, she thought of Elvis. She thought she wanted to be able to love like Elvis.
So she stayed with Robin, in her small one bedroom flat on the outskirts of Hawkins. She could do anything she wanted to, she could go home but she’s not going to.
That night, after eating crackers and after all their laughter had been expressed, they started at the moon and they were both known.
They vowed that night, in the comfort of Robin’s queen sized bed, "I will do anything for you"
happiness is a fleeting emotion. you often find it in small divine acts like your favorite song playing on a shuffled playlist or your best friend laughing at one of your jokes or when the bus makes a suggestive noise or when an amazing girl is devastatingly bad at video games and you can’t help but tease her for it. perhaps it isn’t fleeting, perhaps its circumstantial and it’s people that make us happyÂ
love hurts. love is epically painful and devastatingly amazing. but its a pain you want, almost a pain you need when you are in love. in some masochistic way, you cling to this pain like a child clings to a doll. its this beautiful pain that you grieve and mourn in the end, when all you have its dirty, ugly and oppressive turmoil
my friends say i’m like the sun. i smile big and bright and have the most joyful laugh. yet i feel like darkness most of the time. i lay awake at night and force myself to cry. i often wish to reopen old wounds. i most of all crave love from a girl who discarded me like i was scum. i deserve so much yet i never allow myself to know it.
