From everyone at When the System Fails, Corp.:
We hope that Christmas this year can be spent safe, healthy, and happy with family and offer a bit of normalcy in such a surreal year. Remember that presence is a gift just like any other ‘presents’! This year, more than ever, we are reminded how much quality time with family and friends truly means to us. Merry Christmas from our families to yours.
My first Christmas as part of the When the System Fails family and I am having a great holiday season.
Deadbeat
More TV I am trying. Good to know there are 3 seasons of this one. I’m almost done with the pilot and I’d give a 6/10 so far.
Edit: I am on episode 7 now. I wish the show-in-the-show, Felonies & Misdemeanors, which is this universe’s Law & Order, was a real show. It looked hilarious and I would actually watch it.
That’s something that happens kind of often. I want to see the show-within-a-show, but they don’t really exist.
I’ll be Gone in the Dark - Episode 4: The Motherlode
I am not looking forward to hearing Patton Oswalt call 911 in this episode. I know it is going to be heartbreaking.
There is new information that I am surprised about, when they are talking about the Visalia Ransacker:
He stole men’s underwear
He tore a school photo of a victim’s son into four pieces
[I am going to edit this if there is more info]
Comet Neowise
My dad and I went ‘comet hunting’ two nights in a row. The first night we went out a few miles away from home and we could see the comet if we looked kind of near it, not at it, or for just the first second when we looked directly at it. I was feeling nauseous and didn’t want to go too much farther away from home, so we decided to go again the next day.
The second night, we went further, to the outskirts of town/another unincorporated area with absolutely no street lights, thinking that the reason we couldn’t see the comet when looking directly at it due to the few city lights still kind of lighting up the atmospheric dust and stuff like that in the air. However, even in an area with complete darkness all around, there was no seeing the comet 100% clearly when looking right at it. Obviously, all the photos we have seen were long exposures.
Last night, we took the ashes of the first dog I ever owned out with us and threw three handfuls out into the wind, which caught the ashes immediately and they were gone before we knew it. This was exactly what happened when we would let her out of the car for her weekly desert adventures when she was a young dog/old puppy. We would only know where she was when we would see her head pop up above the brush momentarily when she was bounding through the fields.
I still love the area that I moved to recently. It’s kind of more rural and I love not having any neighbors especially after having about a four year long saga of shitty neighbors from hell.
And that’s that’s been up with me lately.
Sirens (TV)
I don’t know if it’s obvious that I’ve been trying to branch out from the same six shows I like to watch. I have been trying to put new stuff on in the background while I am typing up documents, modding, or doing research and save the shows I’ve seen hundreds of time for when I am sleeping. I like to sleep to familiar things because I know they won’t wake me up with unexpected loud parts or unexpected silent parts. Anyway, I’ve been using the front page of Hulu to try and expand my television horizon.
Sirens is pretty good. 6/10 so far and I am on episode 3, I would say. I don’t like the relationship stuff between the guy in the middle in the picture and his girlfriend, and I didn’t like the way they introduced them as being together, either. It was awkward and I really don’t care if they’re happy together or not... I think she should have just been a coworker of the EMTs. I like the guy on the left’s innocence and the guy on the right is really funny.
I can see why it only had one or two seasons, but I am enjoying it the way I am watching it. Obviously, I’m not watching it like a hawk as I can’t even name the guys in the photo and they’re the main characters. I know who they are when they’re referred to on the show, I just can’t remember right now.
I also finished Liar Liar yesterday, watched the 30 Rock One Time Reunion, and watched an episode of Two Pink Doors, which was pretty funny. That’s what I have been up to TV wise.
I am currently trying to do a lot of modding behind the scenes type things. I need to set up the toolbox config for a few of my main subs, discuss leaving a few subs I am not invested in, and come up with improvements for each sub I mod... which is a lot. I also need to kick it into gear and type up these documents in the Vallow case.
In real life news, I need to fold some laundry, tackle some recycling, and clean the cat box. You can pretty much guarantee that’s a given on any day for me.
And if it isn’t obvious by now, I am doing this blog to have a web presence, not to be interesting. I will never be interesting, sorry.
Welcome to Plathville
Can you tell I am trying to branch out by picking random stuff on the front page of Hulu instead of watching the same (maybe 6) handful of shows over another time? Yeah....
Another surprise is that Welcome to Plathville is an entertaining little series. It’s not too off from 30 Rock if you know what I mean.... (Kenneth)
130+ year old audio of a talking doll that Thomas Edison created (or probably stole. idk) singing twinkle twinkle little star. The old scratchy audio has a really creepy feel to it.
One of my last posts was about watching HBO’s I’ll be Gone in the Dark... It has audio of taped phone calls where one of the more prolific killers we know is growling threats and this....
this is ten thousand times creepier.
Way better than I was expecting. I kind of clicked it accidentally and was a bit too lazy to change it. I figured recent Andy Samberg should be alright. Didn’t love the ending. 5/10.
Clothed and Opinionated
I just had a great time watching two episodes of Naked & Afraid with my dad. That’s something that we love to do together. Amazing Race, Naked & Afraid, Fear Factor, Wipeout, Solitary 2.0 - anything of the sort.
One episode was a ‘Clothed & Opinionated’ quarantine edition, where past competitors practiced social distancing and watched it while on a face/voice call with the other members on Skype/Facetime type calls. It was absolutely hilarious. It was the episode that Makani had to tap out medically.
Then we watched the episode where Seth had to tap out medically, but it was a regular edition of the show.
I’ll Be Gone in the Dark
I have been watching HBO’s I’ll Be Gone in the Dark. I haven’t read the book but I follow the discussion about Joe Deangelo and have since just after he was found, on the r/EARONS sub. I hope the later episodes focus heavy on evidence and the crimes themselves.
It’s a bit odd that Michelle McNamara’s relationship is such a big part of the show. The doc is described as “writer Michelle McNamara’s investigation into the dark world of the violent predator” and “a journey into the soul of McNamara”. They have taken a story I really want to see and interspersed it with one I could honestly take or leave.
Tonight, I will watch the third episode. I also want to buy the book written by EARONS’ ex-brother-in-law.
As expected.
