My favorite thing about bugs is there will always be one you've never seen before
It's a shame that when people think of biodiversity or conservation, they typically think of mammals instead of bugs. Invertebrates constitute most of the animal biomass in the world! There are more beetle species than fish, or reptiles, mammals and bird species combined! There are 2 times more insect species in UK than mammal species worldwide! While you can easily exhaust your UK common bird list in 1-2 years, it is difficult to do that for insects in 10 years! It is possible to discover a new species undiscovered by science in a relatively overstudied area just by looking at your local bugs!
