a different kind of swapped au! inspired partly by some of @skull-bearer​ ‘s fic, AU where Hermann is the Kaiju expert and Newt is the mathematician, after Hermann drifts with the Kaiju brain. I don’t feel as though either of their personalities would shift much, or their fashion choices.

hermann quickly figures out that the best way to drive the precursors absolutely fuckin bonkers is to give newt the opportunity to level the playing field. hard to control your destruction puppet when his boyfriend loads him up on horse tranquilizers and dooms you to being trapped in his brain with him for the next seventeen hours, isn’t it?

my gift for @bitmeddler for the newmann holiday gift exchange!!! this was such a blast to make and i really hope you enjoy it too :D

the idea behind it was "hermann meets newt's family at an inopportune time" with a BVR twist!! it was a fun excuse to draw what i think Jacob and Illia Geiszler look like haha!! i also had a lot of fun really channeling the grungy sort of punky vibe of a live concert through the screentones and scratchy lines. had so much fun with it. an all around good time!!!

I guess this is a character study, of sorts. I think Hermann is a character who is often reduced into a trope: the stuffy, grumpy professor, in constant disdain of Newt’s free spirit. Things like him asking to be addressed as Doctor Gottlieb have led to him being reduced to a stuck-up killjoy. But there are reasons people have these preferences. And in the end I’d argue that Hermann wanting to be addressed by his full title is him attempting to accomplish the same goal as Newt’s tattoos. It’s not all about sounding or looking impressive. It’s about taking claim of an important part of you, and asking others to acknowledge it.
