CH.1 is up!!!!! I decided to split ch.1 into two chapters, because ch.1 was getting ABSURDLY long. At the time of writing I have 7.5k words, which might not be a lot for some writers, but this is literally the most i've written for any fic i've written.

…By the time you're done tying up loose ends, the day is well advanced. You don't think about what this means until you step through the doors to the daycare and you're assaulted by input from all directions.
It's business hours.
There are children screaming, and the white light pouring from the overhead bulbs is harsh against your sleep-deprived eyes. Somehow you can hear that awful fluorescent buzz of them over the excited screeches, and that whine burrows right under your skin like static electricity. You fucking hate, hate, hate the lights in this building.
There's music blasting through the speakers, and everything is so bright. In the corner of your eye you see the advertisement billboards, rapidly cycling between advertisements for the pizzaplex and random simulated crap, like bubbles or swirly rainbows. For one dizzying moment, you feel like you're in a Casino- not a daycare.
You stand there, frozen, hand fisted around the handle of your red toolbox as nausea coils thickly in your empty stomach.
The Daycare attendant, in his daytime preset, looks up from where he's corralling spilled balls back into the ball pit. Noticing you, he perks up. If he were a dog, his tail would be wagging.
He literally somersaults over to you, vibrating with energy, and you feel a cold pang of dread.
Oh god.
You only have a few seconds to mentally prepare yourself before the daycare attendant is in your face--literally--all grins and glowy eyes.
You think you're going to be sick.
"HELLOOOOOOOOOO NEW FRIEND!" He exclaims, head spinning in a circle and rays expanding and retracting. His voice is way too loud. He stoops down and grabs the hand that isn't occupied with holding your toolbox and shakes it, and your entire body with it, causing your hat to slip down your forehead. "Wow, it is just so amazing to meet you! Do you know Ollie? What's your name? My name's Sun! Where did you come from? Are you here to stay?"
Already overwrought with sensory input, the animatronic's hand on your own sends sharp spikes of unpleasant feeling through your skin, making the awful crawling, crackling static kick up several notches.
Reflexively, almost involuntarily, you yank your hand out of his grasp, shuffling back several steps.
Sun stills, smile drooping and rays retracting, clearly taken aback.
You feel bad, but you just can't handle anything touching you right now or you might scream. You know that trying to talk right now is useless, so you dig around in your pockets until you pull out your new ID.
Silently, you present Sun the shiny card with your new position documented in printed letters at the bottom.
"Oh!" Sun leans down to examine the ID, before straightening back up. You notice that he doesn't try to lean into your personal space again, and you're relieved. "I guess Ollie isn't coming back…?"
You blink at the nickname, wondering what kind of relationship they'd had. Slowly, you shrug and shake your head. Honestly, you probably know as much about this as Sun does.
"Well, New Friend, why don't I give you a tour of the daycare, and we can get to know each other a little better!"
Actually, there's nothing less you'd like to do right now, but your pre-made social script has you nodding awkwardly before you can figure out a way to politely refuse.
"Awesome!" The animatronic claps his hands together, bell ribbons jingling merrily, voice right back to the overwhelming cheer.
You follow Sun around like a lost duckling, trying your utmost not to snap at any of the children who stray too close to you when playing. It's not their fault, but in this state, just their proximity makes you all staticy and irritable.
