Thank you to everyone who follows this account. I started it as a way for me to just catalogue music I like and get some practice putting down words about the music that moves me. 

As you may have noticed I haven’t updated this page in some months and that’s because I’ve been writing for a small blog called Unrecorded. I’ve been writing short editorials about new music releases daily, and if you want to keep up with what’s new and interesting / create some diversity in your music blog feed apart from your Stereogums, CoS, Pitchfork, Fader etc daily round up, I suggest giving them a follow.

Childish Gambino - Telegraph Ave

Donald Glover takes us on a trip through scenic Hawaii with ultra-babe Jhene Aiko in his video for the Lloyd assisted track from Because The Internet. The video shows the two driving, wading in the ocean, and in one scene Donny even sees a manatee (wow!).

Be sure to watch til the end for a surprise twist.

Pharrell Williams - It Girl

The ageless Pharrell Williams has just released the video to his G I R L track "It Girl". The video was created in collaboration with Japanese contemporary artist Takashi Murakami (he did the Graduation album cover) to create a psychedelic, 16 bit, Japanese adventure filled with scantily clad teen girls.

Pharrell and the ladies get into a dolphin spaceship, and fly away into space.

Chopped vocal samples and hip-hop drums set the tone for the debut single of Parisian duo, Exotic Toy.

The TDE ringleader finally drops off something for the blogs to talk about. It's about time, and Kendrick doesn't disappoint with his Isley Brother's sampling self-love anthem, "i".

Beau Young Prince - The Groovy God EP

"The Groovy God EP" finally saw the light of day yesterday when it premiered exclusively with the website Earmilk, after a string of promising singles that have been littering the internet this past summer.

From the opening track "+1000 Roses +" we are presented with an especially hazy aesthetic, as much wavvy as it is post trap. Beau has a melodic/staccato delivery akin to that of Kendrick Lamar while also capturing the lackadaisical flow of Young Thug over skittering snares and flaring synths.

Beau Young Prince uses this EP as an opportunity to display his versatility; from rap superstar to soulful crooner he sings on about as many tracks as he raps.

Subjects range from smoking blunts and scene chicks to student debt and the struggles and stress of the black urban middle class. Authenticity is something this DC MC need not be concerned with, his lyrics while not always deep are always thoughtful and feel wholly intentional.

The Groovy God EP is definitely worth a listen, stand out hits (for me at least) include the Dope Collective repping "Smoke a Blunt" as well as the EP closer "Let It Bump" where Beau reminisces of writing in his dorm room looking for a new sound. And what Beau has found seems to be the new direction of the post hip-hop generation, a group that might not completely relate to the gun clapping and bravado of the modern corporate climate of the genre.

Maybe grooviness is universal?

DJ J-$crilla - Unfamiliar Shirts (feat. Ras Nebyu, Uno Hype and Sir E.U.)

There's a young scene coming out of DC these days. Psych, soul and hip hop influences melding into a sound that encapsulates the spirit of the "groovy niggas" that make up the local arena.

Look for more coming from creative posses "Dope Collective" and "Bombay Knox" in the near future, but for now ride out to this nostalgic crew cut.

Arctic Monkeys - Snap Out Of It

AM was one of my favorite albums of last year, and here we see the video for one of it's most infectious tracks. What I can infer from the video is that this beautiful woman (Stephanie Sigman) is seriously missing the days when she and Alex Turner were canoodling, and all she does now is watch the home movies and cry :-(

The video does show some cool candids of the recording process of AM, which is pretty silly.

So Good - Nao & A.K. Paul

Jai Paul is like an internet unicorn, the net's sasquatch, the world wide webs lochness monster, and he still hasn't even released a proper debut (even though it is confirmed he will be collaborating with Rodaidh Donald). But today isn't about Jai Paul! .. kinda.

Jai Paul's brother and frequent collaborator A.K. Paul has just released a track with female vocalist Nao that has all the lo-fi, synthed out, harmonic charm of a Jai Paul track with a mid tempo groove that's sure to make your head bounce.

Mapei - Don't Wait

Mapei finally puts out the video to her monstrous single "Don't Wait" which released last year.The flick shows her and her beau cruising around the neighborhood, and going to a house party, which is tight.

After tons of remixes and so many months, this vocal monster of a track still holds up behind the addictiveness of the hook as this cute Swedish singers' voice seemingly bursts into an echo chamber each verse.

RiFF RAFF - Buns

What I applaud RiFF RAFF for the most in the unfaltering performance art piece that is his life, is that he seems to be able to take the corniest things and make them seem a little cool at least...

The Neon Icon and Scoop DeVille take this to the extreme in their dissection of the classically corny Sir Mix-a-lot song "Baby Got Back" turning it into a skittering ode to hittin' buns.

Jungle - Busy Earnin'

So the SXSW festival is stirring up the pot and many of the hottest bands are rising to the top. I'm not that cool and I'm usually behind on these things so check this out if you haven't. 

"Busy Earnin'" dropped in early February and the video features the dancers on the cover art doing one big choreographed dance routine in a white room. Funky.

Emails - Yung Lean

Yung Lean, my favorite teenaged white Swedish rapper finally drops the video for the melancholic "Emails" from his Unknown Death 2002 mixtape. Yung Lean's been pushing a future Japanese vibe, as seen in his most recent work "Kyoto."

Watch Yung Lean rap about pearl necklaces and neglected email accounts above, and get your tissues ready. Sad Boys taking over.
