HW #11

I am sad to say that this will be the final blog post for this semester. I enjoyed this process due to the fact that this social media is one of my favorites and I was able to share my thoughts on various topics. Throughout this semester I learned many things, while using this social media as a gateway. I have learned how to keep my thoughts as neutral as possible and carefully not offend others and their opinions. I believe that I am exceptionally good at coming up with genuine topics to talk about but also I have a very different approach and idea about that topic. I advocate for my ideas, but I keep an open mind to anyone else that has an opinion. That is another thing that I am good at, which is keeping and open mind, taking in ideas, and then changing my way of thinking if the ideas given are significant. Things that I need to work on is giving more evidence for my ideas, I understand that my opinion is my opinion but I do still need evidence to back it up. The reason because Is because no one will believe my opinion if it does not have any facts backing the idea up. I really do think that these blogs that I have written throughout this semester has help me find my ideas and make them clearer when they come out on paper. Before I started this class I had great ideas but whenever I tried to write them they came out unclear and scrambled. I have gotten better because i have started to find clear reasons and clear motives and clear evidence, It has become easier to write for others to understand. I am really glad that I have taken this class because it has given me more tools to help me become a better writer/ blogger.  I do plan on become a blogger of some sort, or someone who critiques clothing or other things in that field of work. So i would help for me to be able to be clear and show one solid idea. In terms of writing from high school to college I would not say that my writing has gotten a lot better, but it has definitely changed. It has been more generalized but also precise at the same time. I have enjoyed the curriculum and how we used it to our and my advantage.

Home Stretch

This semester was a crucial semester for me. College in general was a huge change not only in my life but many others. The transition from high school to college was abrupt and shell shocked many students. Myself included, I expected college to be way different and I was ready for that. What I was not ready for was how independent you had to be. I was fairly self sustaining but it did become difficult to make decisions during my first semester, I was indecisive and it resulted me in not doing so well. Then doing not so well the first semester resulted in me having to work harder this semester. I tried to take classes that I was interested in so I could be engaged and do well in that class. This tactic worked a little, but I found out that I do well in classes where I have close friends in because I am able to work and study with that person or group. When I am alone and quiet it gets harder for me to focus and do well. But as this semester went forward I found myself doing better in classes because my college career was on the line. I understand now that when I am put under large amounts of pressure I bring out the best work inside of me. Or I find the perseverance that any great student has to help them do well in school. I also believe that since I am an adult I need to take care of my own business and take my life one step at a time. The first step was to do exceptionally well this semester so I can return for my sophomore year at buffalo state. I have made a family here that I love and cherish, I would not all this work and all these friendships to end because I did not want to work a little harder. I enjoyed this home stretch of my first year of college I have learned many things, not only from the classes I am taking but new things about life. This is why I believe everyone should have some type of college experience, it helps people learn more about themselves and find new things that they have never came across before. Knowledge is power and experiencing new things is something that gives you more knowledge. I am glad that I came to college and I believe everyone that is here should be grateful for what they have and what they are experiencing.

Blog #8

I know it might be silly but I would like to talk about Donald Trumps policies. I wanna discuss how ridiculous they sound. First off I wanna talk about how he wants to restrict the flow of immigration. One problem with that is that we need to keep ties with foreign countries to keep the flow of trade for our country. We also live off the people who lives in the country, taxes, retail, etc. We rely on them for jobs that they do, they keep our country go around. They are like a big cog that makes our country spin. Not only did he present that idea in a way that was not respectful, he preached something that will most likely have a bad effect on our country today. I personally do not judge but I do know when ideas are not too smart. Another thing he has started is an unrest with the citizens of the United States, not only the minorities but the citizens that are already struggling with survival in the States. He is only gonna further the gap between the rich and the poor, our country IS based off of survival of the fittest. Based off of darwinism we as a country follows Charles theories to the tee. But we as the “Best Country in the world” we cannot have civil unrest or this large of a gap between the so called elite and regular citizens. People can physically see the difference and as a country we cannot have that. About the civiil unrest he has started, he has resurrected the groups of people who still live by the ideals of the mid 1900′s. Which are the people who want to go back to the era where one race holds power. (Not that it has changed, but it is in a different form, that people may not see with the naked eye). We as a country need to stay vigilant about how our country is run and who will run it next, because time moves fast and a lot can happen.

VOTING

I believe we should talk about voting and the path our country is heading towards if we are not aware of how our government works. We should talk about the insufficient teaching of the political sphere of our country. Which is the most controversial and largest chunk of the ingredients of our own country. It is needed that our upcoming youth is informed and well invested of our countries so called backbone. And it’s affairs.

Blog #6

Sororities and fraternities are always a topic that crosses a student’s mind, when first entering college. Sororities and fraternities are known as a brotherhoods or sisterhoods who share a common purpose or at have the same beliefs. There are many perks to being in sororities and fraternities for one you make many friends, you give back to your community, it looks good on your resume ( if you apply for a job and it just so happened your interviewer is a part of your soro or frat your willingly to get hired), and you often have to live in a Greek house which is much cheaper, less stricter than campus housing. Now with many perks of course comes with a con that these sororities and fraternities often love that many of them participate in and they love to sweep under the rug “ hazing “.

           Hazing is being forced to perform strenuous often humiliating tasks. This often goes on while you are pledging to officially become a soro or frat member. It’s been around for ages and it seems to be very popular not only among Greek life but also amongst athletic teams, ROTC squads and even marching bands. It’s almost inhumane to me how something so beasty can be so popular and norm in today’s society, have we not learned that violence isn’t the answer? Hazing can be seen to create intimacy between the members and also preserve tradition, so why it is that it can become deathly? Hazing deaths have become more and more popular over the years and we’ve even had allegations of one recently. Bradley Doyley had fallen ill in late January due to unknown cause but a lot of people suspect it to be due to hazing, apparently Doyley consumed hazardous liquids but still his death isn’t due to hazing?

           While pledging it seems that it’s almost like your hanging your life on the line. You always hear about hazing and know there deathly but it just never seems apparent to you until it hits somewhere close to you or even home. This hazing tradition not only makes me question us as a society, but it disgust me. It disgust me that some of Greek life is even taking it that far, if you are  interested in someone becoming your new brother why would you want to kill someone? Even if unintentional, where are the boundaries? How do you even feel comfortable doing such a thing?

I do think that sororities and fraternities are an important discussion to have in class.

Joining a fraternity or sorority is dangerous nowadays. The perks are absolutely amazing but joining a frat or sorority puts an individual at risk for drug abuse, peer pressure, stress and it is overall a life threatening thing to do. In the past, frats and sororities wouldn’t be looked at as a social and partying opportunity, but today the first thought that comes to mind when people hear the word “fraternity” is party. That being said, some people do think that the perks override the dangers and it is a VERY sensitive subject in college. I think if we discuss this in class, we will either have total outrage or an excellent discussion. I feel like this is an important topic, because recently a person that I had knew has passed away due to a hazing while he was pledging to a fraternity. He was a successful student and well respected around campus. It was sad to hear, but he was pledging due to the facts that frats are good connections and great for networking. But he never knew this would ever happen. This is a good topic to talk about because it is something that should be brought to the light. This is a dangerous situation that should be taken to account because college are our future. We need to protect the youth while they are educating us and getting us ready for the real world.

Bullying Sucks

A few years ago, when I was in fourth grade my mother had decided to send me to a boarding school. This decision was made to make me a more independent child and more responsible. The boarding school I attended was Good Shepherd International School in Ooty, a small hill station in South India. My first day at the boarding school wasn’t as pleasant as I thought it would be since I was going to be away from my parents and at that age it wasn’t something I was prepared for. As soon as my parents left, I didn’t quit realize the distance but as soon as I went for my first meal and ate a meal from the school, I realized that everything has changed. I started missing my parents to an extent where I cried myself to sleep at night. I hated them for doing this to me. To me, this decision taken by them wasn’t appreciated. It was rather a prison to me because I had no friends; no one to let my feelings out to or even have a conversation with. Then, things got worse. The bullying began the first day of my classes. As soon as I walked into my class a dictionary was resting on top of the door and as I opened the door, the dictionary feel on my head and all the students in the class started laughing at me. This obviously made me embarrassed and gave rise to anger. Being a new student I didn’t know what to do, so I just let it slide. We all know anger doesn’t go away, it stays with us and every time we think about the situation it flares up. My anger was the same, it didn’t seem to vanish but every time I thought about the situation it would just change my mood. Bullying influenced me to get stronger mentally and physically and to also stand up for myself. I got back at all of the kids who bullied me. I made the all the kids in my grade turn on them, probably was not the best way to handle that situation but bullying made me so angry. After fulfilling my plans to get back at those who wronged me I learned to stand strong, to speak up and defend myself. I no longer allow anyone to bully me or disrespect me.

Bullying is not an easy subject especially if you have been a victim to being bullied. Bullying has always been a strong topic for me because I am beyond against it. No one has a clue of what someone is going through and to just mess with a person just because really angers me. I feel exactly where the author is coming from because I also was a victim of bullying when I was growing up as well. I didn’t go to the extent of retaliating because it just wasn’t in me but I did however begin to stand up for myself. I began to say things that needed to be said instead of remaining quiet like I would normally. I’m glad the author was able to find that strength to not allow himself to be treated that way because no one deserves it and it’s not cool.

Bullying is not something that is easy to talk about for me or for anyone. I was personally bullied when I was younger. It was not as bad as other peoples but it was a struggle for me during my younger days because as children we are easily impressionable and it takes a toll on the child minds. It made me really self conscious to this day. I am still harboring the feeling of other calling me ugly, and it restricts me from making friends with girls, because I feel like they are automatically judging me. So it is a something that can affect you for a long time.

Voting

The presidential election goes all the way back to the year of 1788, all the way to now, and every four years as Americans we have the right to vote for who we want to be out voice of the country for that time period, until again the next election comes around. Every four years the same demographic can swing the vote in either direction, the age group responsible for the group is my age group the age group between the ages of eighteen, to twenty-nine.  Basically the young group, but the problem for the longest time was that my age group really didn’t care about voting too much, and in return, would miss out on choosing who you want to be your voice, or representative for your country. But in 2008 when President Barack Obama was elected at that time it was the highest number of voters ever for the age group between 18-29 year olds. That’s a good thing more people my age are caring about what is going on around them, and they want to have some form of input. But now in 2016 I feel like my age group really doesn’t really care about voting too much, and having a say in who runs the country. For example I was having a conservation with one of my roommates, and they didn’t even know who were the potential candidates up for elections coming up, except for trump, and he was like I might vote for him. But the thing is we spend most of ore time on our phone, or looking at T.V. and out of all of that time you don’t even know who is in the running for the presidency, for your country that you live in. The thing is that I hope he is just like one out of a million people who are this out of the loop, because if it’s millions of people like this, it could be a real problem come voting time, because you also get people who just vote, and really don’t know anything about what the person they want to vote for has in plan for them. It’s like sometimes you have to be aware of what is going on in the world, and not just what is going on in your life, because what’s going on in the world sometimes, might, or could have an impact on your personal life, or your work life as well. But not just my age group everybody should do their part when election time comes around.

I honestly agree with you, many people in our day and age do not really know or care about the process of choosing the person who will run our country. I had just registered to vote, the person asked me and I was more than happy to register, but the friends that were right next to me kinda brushed off the fact that they were not registered, and was not trying to vote, this is concerning because every vote counts. I am also concerned on the way our country is heading our youth need to be informed and educated. Due to the fact that our youth is our future we need to learn more about how our country and our world works. If we are not aware our world can become worse.

CWP 101

In our society people have constantly overlooked the fact that the poor are staying poor and the rich are getting richer. Some may have noticed the fact and some may have gotten this idea to others but the problem always fades to the background. I am here today to try to get this idea back into the light of the society, because I am tired of people just overlooking the fact that there are millions of people in our society that are struggling to survive and no one is doing anything to help them. I myself is not struggling but I am not by all means well off. I grew up poor and went through a lot, through that time I learned how to economize and how to make and save money. Now that I have some wealth or hard earned money I should say I can live happily. People that say money can not buy happiness are naive and obviously have not lived a life when you have little to no money. Would you be happy if you were starving with no food or money to buy anything. 

I believe there is a domino affect, once you become poor it becomes ten times harder to get a job because you are worrying about taking care of yourself and keeping yourself alive. While you are doing that you are falling short of getting a job. Now that you do not have a job you can’t keep anyone around or yourself healthy. Then they eventually disappear meaning they are irrelevant and people erase them from their memory.

We need as the youth to alert the general population because people are paying attention to the wrong things. To keep this country strong we need people to live in it, if this continues we won’t have any citizens. So I believe we need make it a priority to help the citizens that are below what any human needs to live, we should give everyone a fighting chance. Not an uphill battle to survive on this planet, we are all equal. We all have equal opportunities and should be treated like so. I myself want to start a non for profit to help the less fortunate, I know many people have done it but any little help counts and can add up, and hopefully it can start a movement as big as black live matters or just big enough to make a significant impact. People can start things and never finish, I intend to finish and make a change. Knowing where people of low wealth I would not like to be like that ever again.

CWP 101

This weekend and the past couple weeks many people have been getting sick. It has been really concerning because even one of my family members has gotten sick. She is very old but never stops amazing me. She has been my source of strength all my life. So when I saw her sick it made me wonder how can anyone be safe. My grandmother is in the sixty to seventy year old range, her hair still has her color and shine, and she works her butt off for her church and for her family. For as long as I remember she has always taken care of me and the family and more, she never complains and barely gets sick. But this past weekend she got so sick I thought to myself that it is my time to return the favor of her taking care of me for eighteen years. When I arrived back home she was so frail and weak, it was saddening to see my shining light was dimming and it was tough. This is the worst I have ever seen her, she told me she did not know how this happened to her and it hit her out of nowhere. I myself have not been cautious about my surroundings and how I dress but I should really start too, because if I am not careful the same can happen too me. It is bad that one of my family members had to get sick to remind me but it is something that I would rather learn sooner than later. Another thing I learned is that people should care for others without reason, the reason I came back was because I felt bad, but I should’ve done it because I wanted too not because it was warranted. This trip I had was a very useful one, it taught me many things and gave me a new perspective on life. I am sure everyone can find something positive in any situation.

My family has a history of being super athletic and even bionic because of the things we do and accomplish. My father is forty one and my step-mother 42 and my real mother 37. They are all still acting like they are 22, my father and my step mother own our own cross-fit and martial arts gym. They both work out everyday, my dad used to compete in martial arts for 17 years and recently retired 5 years ago
