I told you we were back!

A whole bunch of things have happened and I’m sorry I haven’t really posted anything about my junior year experiences!! I’ve been pretty busy between band and school so it’s been hard to make time. But here I am once again!!

I got my new saxophone last month, and I love him so much (his name is Bitty)! We went all the way to Maryland to get it and it was so worth it. The people at the store I went to were really nice and helpful, and I got to pick out a saxophone that I am very comfortable with now!

(Bitty got me into districts too!!! I’ll make a comic about that next!)

-the first competition we went to last year was like the first time our band had won anything marching related in YEARS and we managed to be division champion. it was dope. i cried. the ride home was great.

Band camp: describe a summer memory you won’t forget

-easily my first day of band camp ever. i was dumb and didn’t bring water, proceeded to pass out, and got carried inside like a drunk dude. lil freshman me was mortified, but i laugh about it now.

-i hate heat with a BURNING (haha get it) passion, but playing my instrument at all becomes a nightmare in the cold, so….. 105 heat it is.

-sometimes? i like to usually wait until it melts so i have more water, but sometimes… you just gotta cronch on something.

- oooh this is a hard one. mine would have to be an original composition by the first band director i had in high school, called Sunburst! it’s a really really pretty piece that our band holds dearly. i wish i had a recording of it to share!

oh boy do i love the evolution of our marching uniforms. we’ve gone from edgy death parade to edgy jazz parade! (i kinda do miss the chains a bit but the sash is cool. also we’re getting capes my senior year. it’s gonna be great.) we just got leadership results announced wednesday, so i felt like doing a marching band related post! really looking forward to fulfilling my roles as co-woodwind captain and sax section leader!! i’m super excited for what the next year will bring, and i know that i and the other leaders are gonna work our hardest to make this show count. let me know what you think of these smaller “comics”— i can post a lot more often with these!

my mom’s a nurse, so i should have seen that scolding coming.... sorry i haven’t posted in forever!!! i’m doing a new format for these comics! i know they’re not as nice as before (i can still do them from time to time), but i figured i’d be way more enthused to do these if they took me 30 minutes instead of 3 hours to make! expect more comics soon, i hope!!

this is the last thing i post about districts i sWEAR

i was largely inspired by this comic about net neutrality i saw a while back (although obviously i didn’t include the same language for a reason–this is a family friendly comic, guys!!) but seriously. if i could go back to the past, i would tell myself to maybe make that one section just a tad quieter. or a lot more. i could have gotten like three more points that way! (which would have actually bumped me up quite a few chairs?? it was that close apparently)

miraculously enough i don’t have homework this weekend so maybe i’ll get some more comics done! i’m going to aim for weekly friday/saturday uploads? let’s hope that works lol

i realize this format of comics is wayyy different to what I usually do, but I felt that for this particular one I needed to try something new. i hope you like it! i think it’s cheesy myself but it has a nice moral lesson so i figured i’d make a nice long comic about it. it was really therapeutic and helped me gush my feelings out!

i am still pretty shaken up about the whole thing, but it’s not the first time i’ve been turned down. this is, however, the closest i’ve gotten to actually placing, so yeah! i’ve got something to be proud of.

i know there’s technically still a chance i could go, but considering the competitive nature of my section (saxophone is the hardest section to make and you can fight me on that), it would really take a miracle for that to happen, especially considering i’m only third alternate. fingers crossed, of course, but i am (trying to be) realistic about it. 

i should be getting my official score tomorrow, so i’ll see what i can improve on from there. but i just want to give a huge thank you for everyone who’s encouraged me to this day. i am so grateful for it. i would have never made it to where i am now without you. thank you so so much.

ferling etudes are scary. sight reading is scary. practicing for districts is scary. Halloween may have been like a month ago, but honestly i am t e r r i f i e d .

well, judgement day is a month and two days from now. can you hear that? it’s the sound of me SCREAMING IN UTTER FEAR. (not that i haven’t auditioned before, but this’ll be the first time i ever audition for the Senior band. it never gets less scary to me though.) i really really want to make it if you can’t tell. oh boy. but alas, i have the confidence and sightreading ability of a potato.
