oh boy do i love the evolution of our marching uniforms. we’ve gone from edgy death parade to edgy jazz parade! (i kinda do miss the chains a bit but the sash is cool. also we’re getting capes my senior year. it’s gonna be great.) we just got leadership results announced wednesday, so i felt like doing a marching band related post! really looking forward to fulfilling my roles as co-woodwind captain and sax section leader!! i’m super excited for what the next year will bring, and i know that i and the other leaders are gonna work our hardest to make this show count. let me know what you think of these smaller “comics”— i can post a lot more often with these!

Charlie Wilcox ~ Metalheart Meltdown

If I want to make myself super extra sad, I listen to Dire Straits' "On Every Street" and think about how conflicted Charlie feels, after finally having found Rob but not being able to out himself as gay and be with him 😢

Charlie is the protagonist of my web comic Metalheart Meltdown, a comic about his coming out in the macho influenced metal scene while he tries to navigate his band’s rise to success.

I think I’m going to make a comic

One where each band instrument is represented by a person

I’m working on the first comic for Just A Band (What I’m calling it) right now.

So far I’ve drawn Percussion, Tuba, Bassoon, Trumpet, Flute, and Clarinet. All the characters will be in the first strip and then will appear when they are relevant.

However, this brings up an issue. Should I name the characters? I could (for example) name Clarinet Clarisse, Clari, or Claire. But I don’t know if naming the characters will make the strip less relatable than if every person was simply an embodiment of the instrument they play and the stereotypes associated with them (thus their “names” simply being Clarinet, Trumpet, Oboe, etc)

What do you guys think?
