Fandom For A Cause

Hello, Stranger Things corner of Tumblr!

We've all come together as a community over a fictional town in Indiana, and the characters who reside there. Many of us have created works of art and fiction centered around these characters- and often those works deal with LGBTQ+ themes. Whether the characters are openly LGBTQ+, subtly queer coded, or LGBTQ+ in our own interpretations, there's something about these characters that seem to have spoken to us on a very personal level.

Meanwhile, in the real world, many states in the USA are in the process of writing legislation that threatens the safety of LGBTQ+ people, most often transgender people. Today, the state of Indiana took major steps towards passing a bill banning all trans healthcare for minors.

I think it would be really wonderful if we used our passion and our fandom community to stand up for Indiana's LGBTQ+ community. In the past, other fandoms have put together FanZines and used the money raised from Zine and merch sales to benefit a cause. I'd like to try to replicate that here, with the Stranger Things community, featuring LGBTQ+ art and stories.

So here's how we start:

SQZ UPDATES!

First: Sorry for the radio silence!

We had some issues getting the funds released from Gumroad, however, everything has been finalized, and we are proud to announce (even with the PayPal issues) that we were able to raise £75 (Approx. $90) for Legacy of War’s Ukraine Effort. That will help them get a lot of mobility aids to those who need them.

Second: Volume 5!

We are going to go ahead and start our work on Volume 5. It’s going to be a quick turnaround on this volume, and we hope to have it ready for a Halloween Release! More information will be released as we finalize our charity.

Third: Applications are reopened!

As most people know, when we announce a new volume, we also open up the Collective to all interested parties. We have not turned a single person away.

As a reminder: We let our authors and artists choose what they wanted to submit, as long as it follows the three two rules originally set - no incest, no underage (adult/minor), no explicit. Those were Sam’s main rules, and as Sam started the Zine, we continue to honor that request.

You may have noticed two cross-outs in that reminder. With Volume 5, we are contemplating having a small side zine that includes explicit works. We’ve had several creators express interest, and with us changing vendors, it is something we should be able to do.

That being said! Are you interested in joining the SQZ Collective? This is an open call for contributors. We are proud to say that we have not turned away a single applicant. If you would like to provide content, now’s your chance. We’d be more than happy to have you!

Hi! I would like to buy the zine (and previous ones) but I only have PayPal, no card. Is there any way I could still buy? Thanks in advance

Hi! Sorry for the delay in answering. To make a long story short our Paypal account was frozen which caused a hiccough with Gumroad. We had hoped that our Paypal account would have been unfrozen by the time this volume came out, but it seems that wasn't the case. We are looking into other ways to accept payment, but at this moment, until Paypal unfreezes our account, we only have the card option. You can't even send us a direct payment on Paypal.
