I relate closely with aspects of both Rick and Mortys personalities, but it almost feels like I'm supposed to be embarrassed to relate to Rick.
I feel so bad for Morty with the way he genuinely thought he was being comforting and encouraging to Sober Rick and meanwhile all he heard was "Diane leaving was completely unrelated to my drinking and obsessions so therefore they aren't a problem, and I will be superior to other Ricks for getting this far with portal travel without shortcuts"

Then there was silence. Morty could hear the blood rushing in his ears, it was so quiet.
Morty's new attitude was getting on Rick's nerves. He's Rick about it and Morty has some realizations on why he was jealous about Evil Morty implying that he sucked his dick.

Am I gonna get broiled alive by this Fandom if I say I'm 100% convinced that Rick c-137 and Morty Prime have an emotionally incestuous relationship, and that this is the canonical and intended read of their codependent and abusive relationship?
They way they act with each other is extremely reminiscent to me of that kind of relationship, and this season, especially the finale, just completely cemented this to me as the intended read on their dynamic.
Like, this was the nail in the coffin for me. I genuinely don't think anything anyone says will convince me this is not the intended reading. I think emotional incest (incestuous abuse in general) deserves way more attention without people acting like it's just too gross to talk about (anyone who treats any form of trauma as radioactive, die forever), so frankly this is just going to stay my interpretation from here on out.
I don't know if either of them even PROCESS this as what their relationship is, though. I don't know if the show will ever outright say anything about this all, past the usual jokes (which there are a LOT of, hell look at S9 E1). But I do wish there was more discussion on this aspect of the show that doesn't immediately devolve into discourse.
