YO NEW HELL ANT JUST DROPPED

IN THE SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE NO LESS

This is from a study just published a few days ago by Lepeco et al. (2025).

Hell ants (subfamily: Haidomyrmecinae) are super cool ants that possessed vertically closing jaws.

Vulcanidris cratensis is a new species discovered in Brazil. It dates back to the lower Cretaceous, and at the time of writing, is now the oldest known ant to science!

"Centipedes don't fuck" is one of my favorite animal facts. There are plenty of sexually reproducing animals that don't fuck per se (like a lot of fish) but centipedes don't even meet. Males just leave sperm packets lying on the fucking ground and females pick them up and take them home. They don't even hang out

My White lipped Globe snails (Mesodon thyroidus) !!

They’re names are Johansson and Mark Ruffalo 

In the last two photos mark ruffalo is on the top and johansson is on the bottom

They’re favourite activity’s are eating fishy flakes and produce and pooping on me

Found this absolutely gorgeous girl in my porcellio laevis colony today, they are actually the calmest isopods I’ve ever had. Perfect starters :)

Sometimes a hermit flower beetle eating nectar off your hand is even more fun than just feeding them mangoes

Benthic invertebrate biomanagement in class today :)

There’s a little crayfish, a few aquatic isopods, a stonefly larva, a caddisfly larva without its case, and a few mayfly larva as well that I can see in this video I took today :)

These are all invertebrates in your creeks, rivers, lakes, and ponds you never even realize are there! Many of these particular invertebrates are indicators of a healthy ecosystem.

Juvenile Yellow cellar slugs! Limacus flavus are super cute active slugs and get up to 9cm long !! They eat basically everything

My previous post about my hermit flower beetles a couple days ago went well, this is one of its younger siblings still in larval form! They look cartoonish with the size of these grubs :)
