Sharp Edges || Panne + Walhart
Walhart could see the slight struggle of the taguel woman to keep the axe steady as he released it from his grasp. It was not a weapon for those any less powerful than himself – and while he doubted that Panne’s strength was any less than his, he attributed her difficulties to her lack of having carried such a tool of war before. He took Wolfberg back from her once she had offered it, replacing his favorite weapon on the ground where it was out of the way and safe from harm which may come to it; or more accurately, the harm a clumsy Shephard might receive from it had it been anywhere near a walking-path.
“Basilio was a smart man to pretend to fall when he did. Without the Feroxi woman beside him, he likely would have after the first blow. His will is something I respect; I am glad to have him as an ally now. There are many great warriors amongst the Shephards.” Turning his eyes away from the taguel, he cast his sight over the camp they had made, taking in the sight and noting the great many of tents…and people which passed between them. “A great many. And there is much that I may learn from them yet, as old and as stubborn as I may be. The lesson of….’bonds’.”
Panne glanced at the camp and people, crossing her arms and relaxing a bit. It was nice to be able to feel even a bit safe around humans, even if she didn’t trust all of them. “I think we’re both learning something of bonds.”
The taguel certainly didn’t think she would be bonding with humans after what happened with her people. Yet here she was. “It is strange, though. For myself, at least, to be around these people….” She paused and after a moment of consideration, she continued, “I believe it’s mostly the smell.”
“The smell?” Walhart, for all his intelligence, parroted the Taguel woman like a naive child. Despite the presence of fur on her body, her ears and tail, he forgot many times the fact that her senses differed greatly from his and achieved the strengths of an animal. Realizing this the man corrected himself quickly by asking a question on the basil of the first. “What does man smell like - or do you only know man as they are now, entangled in their steel of blood and war?”
