“Uhmm..” Kako pondered, they’d already done so much today it felt almost rude to ask more of Takao. Though since she insisted the cruiser brought up the idea, “Jun’you always has a good drink after an active day. Do you, or well are you allowed to drink? Want to join me for 1 cup of sake. Light stuff, nothing bad.”

“Well, I could drink alcohol, but I’m a core floating in the center of a mass of nano-materials, it won’t have any affect on me besides taste. If you still want me to drink with you I can, but we don’t even have any data in the network to try and simulate the effects of drinking.”

The equations continued to flow from his pen to the paper. Given the fact that he was a human solving these equations could be done by him but the shear amount of them and the many variables one needed to solve for over the nearly 100 equations really left the only viable option for calculating them to a quantum computer.

“You can see the issues of perfecting such a system given how many equations must be solved for each universe… it will narrow the field significantly but I have yet to conceive a way to mathematically quantify events in a specific universe’s history. Only the physics of it.”

“I would suppose if you had record of the various parameters of what was around you in terms of gravitational distortions and anomalies we could find one that matches and place you back through that way.”

“I will have a lot of time to ponder and predict, I already have some of my back processors on it, but when I have time to myself I will settle down and run full, intensive scans and exploratory studies.”

She continued to read as he wrote, making sure no detail escaped her gaze, she wouldn’t want any parts of the equation to be missing, it might make her job harder, after all.

“I am capable of focusing my sensors in a relatively small area and keep my eyes out for distortions and anomalies, I might be able to try, and with trying, comes success, with enough attempts.”

“This is much appreciated, I understand you are quite busy so I won’t impede your processes with the calculations.”

The russian pulled a small pad of paper and began to write down a series of equations… a lot of equations. He spoke to her as he wrote them down on paper.

“These will help you and your fleet sift through the multiverse, in a theoretical state. These laws embody quantities of matter to energy in the known universe to start, they go down the line to plank constant and other individual factors that you can compare from what you have in your universe. There most likely will be a very small difference we are talking differences of less than many consecutive magnitudes of a percent in difference. smaller than the distance in meters between quarks in a neutron or proton…”

“I have generated a theoretical adress over the years while… relieving myself on the toilet, Crosswords get dull after a while.”

“It was no big problem, I appreciate that you thought to ask me to do such things for you. If you require additional virtual testing, you need only ask, considering all of the good you are doing me and my fleet.” She watched him write, and smiled.

“Ah, interesting.” She peered down at his pad of paper as he scribbled, actually drawing in rather close, eyes staring down and glowing red as he wrote. She seemed to be visually digesting the material as he wrote it with great interest.

As her eyes scanned over the equations, she drew up her holographic interface, windows opening and scanning in data, then compiling it, running tests, comparing data, she smiled, red eyes fixated. “This is all very interesting, certainly you put your..free time, to good use. I will run tests, and compile this data and study it as best I can even before you get the hardware to me.”

“Well…” Kako didn’t have much to add to that, she was all for inflating people’s egos but thinking on it now…was it so wise to do so to Takao?

“Then I’m all done and ready to move, onto what I’m not sure. You’ve kept me company all day and even tended to me getting back to base without a problem. Really I need to find a way to thank you.”

“I’m not sure either, but I don’t mind spending more time with you, if you like.” When the other mentioned thanking her, she smirked a bit, but shook her head no. “Not at all, it was no problem, really. If you have anything else you want to do I can come along though, really it doesn’t matter that much if I’m away from base for a long period of time or not.”

“Tch convenient and even looking amazing while doing it, its like you girls have everything you need to steal a heart without trying.” Kako pointed out as she kept her towel wrapped and walked into the change rooms, of course she had to undress and redress with all her stuff on. Though to keep things short she didn’t wrap herself up in the black bandages. “There, hope I didn’t make you wait too long.”

Stop fanning her ego, her head will swell again, Kako. “Maybe we do? I mean, I don’t know if our creators intended us to be attractive or not.”

Takao leaned against the wall nearest to the changing rooms, waiting for the other to emerge, and when she did, the mental model straightened back out and smiled cheerily at her.

“I have all of the time in the world, quite literally, Kako. So don’t worry about it.”

“I would appreciate a bit of data to work with though, simply the temperature of the intake air prior to combustion would be sufficient to work with. It would’t be telling me a solution just information to work towards one on my own.

The russian pulled out a pen from his pocket and flipped to the back of the drawing before handing the singularity his writing utensil.

“As you wish.” She took the page he offered as well as his pen and, draw several small tables that indicated temperatures and failure or success, then she drew out other tables as her other tests came to conclusions, with her results and recommended course of actions.

“Here you are, I can give additional information if you require.”

“Oh trust me just cause my clothes look like nothing doesn’t mean I’ll be walking around naked.” Kako huffed, she got the tease but didn’t have anything to return it with.

“Lucky aren’t you? I need to dry off normally so let’s move.”

“Indeed.” Takao absorbed the water along her surface, and the towel shimmered and shifted into a dress once again, and she let out a small sigh, then smirked.

Unassailable teases were the best kind, of course.

“I have several but again please don’t feel obligated to analyze all of them.”

The russian opened up to a few other designs of his. One of them was an improved design for a compact steam engine that could easily fit in a car.

“I am unsure of what fuel you use, but oil currently is used for the majority of personal automobiles. Natasha was to be for my PhD in thermodynamic engineering and a way for my nation to be independent of oil. If we did find a compromise with the americans it would be a useful export… While my reasons have changed now it would be useful even in a time of war to have vehicles that can run on non-rationed fuels. In peace it will help as a stepping stone towards better energy sources as their technologies are refined.”

The other designs were of conversions of Kalashnikov assault rifles to other configurations. several of the designs were incomplete and dated for 1974 and 1975.

“Alright, let’s see.” She scanned her eyes over each of the documents in turn, then pondered as she started to run tests on individual processors, and then smiled again at Isaak. “You indeed have useful designs, Isaak. The rocket design you need to rework the way it handles buildups of heat, however, that is my recommendation. Also, we use hydrogen and anti-hydrogen as fuel, annihilation reactors and all.”

She ran the others through tests, and after a few minutes gave a few recommendations as to fixes or improvements, but avoided directly telling him how to make them better, simply giving her thoughts on the matter to him for each he presented to her to scan.

“I can definitely see the wisdom in your decision for the engine, it would be very valuable, especially once oil begins to become scarce, as it is in our world.”

“It was only a matter of time, slow slow healing.” Kako giggled a bit as she stood up, not having the ability to instantly make a towel as she walked over in the buff to grab one. “shall we get dried and changed?”

“I would imagine we should, unless you fancy standing around wet and naked for more time, Kako. But if that’s your thing I won’t judge.” She smirked a bit, and patted at the head of a mini model who had drew close to her at the edge of the baths.

“I can just absorb the water on myself though, pretty quick solution.”

Exploration

“We can head towards the business and political section.” Chihaya replied, that would give some more time to enjoying the sights. Although they were mostly talking and being absorbed into their conversation. Some would call it creepy devotion indeed, however Chihaya tended to miss those details, or was he simply ignoring her blatant signals? No one but Chihaya knew.

“Alright then, sounds good to me.” She nodded, and followed after him as he started to move, humming quietly to herself to pass a small window of silence.

Really, Takao wasn’t sure if Gunzou knew or not, but in the long run it didn’t much matter if he acknowledged her or not, it wouldn’t change her feelings, new as she was to them and shaped as they were by literature already in the rather new human part of this A.I’s mind.

“There are some really nice and tall skyscrapers in this section, and they are still shiny and intact.”

Exploration

Chihaya nodded in agreement as she expressed her thoughts. “I wouldn’t mind having you with me as well Takao. Should we head to the next area?” Chihaya didn’t mind having Takao around, after all he had grown accustomed to her and most of the other Mental Models he’d met throughout the war and in the aftermath of the fighting.

By now the sun was not too far from it’s high point above them, at least it wasn’t a hot day, if anything there was a small breeze from the south.

“Sounds good to me. If we follow this path we can get to the business and political section, and the other way will circle us back to the docks, then past them to downtown. Whichever way sounds nicer to you, captain.” She bounced on her heels a little, a smile at the thought of being able to stick around with him, she had grown ‘accustomed’ as well, though some might call it creepy devotion.

“Its all good now,” Kako stood straight up without pause, “yup I can put some weight on it without a worry. If ya want to get out we can now, no need to sit all night. Of course the small ones can stay and swim if they wish.”

“I suppose I’ll get out for now, then. The little ones will probably pick themselves out and return to my boat body once they are done.”

Takao drew herself up, towel appearing around her as she stepped over the edge and back onto the floor, and gave Kako a nice smile. “Glad to see you’re feeling better, though.”

“Guh it feels gross when you don’t expect it, usually there’s something that tells you or you see it coming. We’re distracted though before, maybe lucky that it didn’t land on you as well.” She leaned back and raised her leg out of the water, all the redness and swelling gone just like that. “Ah..that’s better.”

“It seems pretty icky. I got a report from one of the other girls awhile ago that it was acidic to us until we reconfigured our base materials to resist the corrosion, so it’d just feel gross to us now, instead of corroding our mental models. At least you’re all patched up now though, right?”

“That’s pretty much a given, that group will never be inseparable.” Chihaya nodded as she voiced her thoughts. “That’s also understandable as well, the future isn’t set in stone and can be changed. Plus, focusing on the future too much may take away from our present; the best we can do is to work our way to the future and see what it holds in store for us.”

“True. I suppose for right now we have better things to think about, don’t we? We can figure it out when it happens.” Takao smiled just slightly over at Gunzou, then bobbed her head. “We have more of this city to explore as well, if you like. Though..if given the option, I would probably choose to stay with you, Captain.”

“That’s true, i’ve never lived in a small house, other than the dorms at the academy; I don’t really count the academy as living in a small house however.” It was interesting to have a snapshot view of what it’d be like to live in those houses, “Maybe when I decide to settle down i’ll find something similar to these houses, if not, then I could simply go live in my old mansion in Yokosuka.”

Those thoughts would no doubt be answered at a better time, but for now he still had different things to be focused on.

“Maybe. I know that Haruna and Kirishima are going to live with Makie, for sure. As for the rest of us, I hardly know what any of us might do. Maybe even never settle down and just keep roaming. As for me? I really don’t know either, the concept of having a place to live in for a long period of time is almost alien to me after being on the sea for so long.”

“I am no worries, ya just gotta laugh through feelings like this.” Kako responded with a hearty laugh, one she’d used so many times to laugh through anything in this war. Though as she laughed in her relaxed position something floated over head, and with a splash she was covered in green liquid.

“Hey! The healy goop came out of nowhere! Do they always just dump it on your face without warning you?”

Takao was slightly taken aback at the sudden green stuff splashed on her friend’s face, though past encounters had told her what the stuff was, at least.

The engineer thumbed through the black leather binder that contained the plans for the portal. Further back there were other designs for weapons, these were small arms and artillery pieces dated from 1970 to 1973 they included a prototype railgun but given the electrical components of the era such a device would have been grossly underpowered compared to a conventional chemical propellant. He opened to several drawings of an engine.

“This here, it is well within our technological capabilities, it is a jet-rocket hybrid engine. In the atmosphere it operates like a normal jet engine, but as it reaches higher in the atmosphere it can be switched to burn liquid oxygen and liquid Hydrogen. It is the key to a single-stage to orbit spacecraft.”

“Understood, I will start simulations.” She looked over the page, opening her eyes and scanning the glowing red discs over his designs, and building them as models in her head, running calculations of weight, mass, dimensions, materials, construction method, and other factors.

Once she had them built, she began to run simulations on the engine itself, hmming quietly to herself, then nodding.

“I will have preliminary results for the engine in a few minutes, going to do a few thousand test runs.” Simultaneously, of course, since she had the processing power.

“Initial tests seem positive though, I will give you some of your vague suggestions upon completion.” She nodded slightly, and gave him a smile as her eyes drifted closed again. “Any other designs?”
