“I hated skating but Tessa walked into my life and that completely changed my course. I remember the first day I saw her… this little girl can skate as fast as me, jump higher than me, two years younger than me… then we started skating together. My cousin and Tessa’s sister were very good friends. They thought it would be cute if we were dating so we dated when we started skating.

In many ways, Tessa and I had such a complex relationship cause we had a connection on the ice and there’s real love in that connection. Now that we’re a little bit older, we’re secure enough to talk about how special this relationship is. We avoided that for many years because we didn’t understand it.”

This is everything Tessa deserved after so many years of pain and injuries and feeling as though she was letting Scott down and people saying she wasn’t the partner he deserved, to have women and people in general marvelling at her confidence and beauty and just… command of everything around her. She just reached a point of no fear where she had complete confidence herself, and then as Scott always has, sets her off so beautifully, he frames her and gives her that safe space to completely shine. He felt for so long she deserved that and she got it. And the most amazing part is he feels not even an inkling of resentment for everyone looking at her- in fact it’s the best complement he could receive that his partner is a star- because he damn well knows she is and is so proud others finally see that too.
