Bartholomew stifled a mocking snort in his scarf, sitting for a moment to refresh himself. His voice, a little less aggressive this time broke the deafening silence after what felt like forever. âbelieve me, we donât necessarily need a revolution, maybe just waiting for the next official mayoral election. but until then, i suppose i can tell you what i have in mind. i could go on for hours.â Bartholomew cleared his throat.
âone of the biggest issues probably lies with the very basis of our current system. the system gives power to everyone in the town to decide who lives and who dies, regardless of alignment. however, since thereâs no legal restrictions, the system becomes based on opinion and morals rather than law and justice. as a result, people who do nothing wrong can be, will be, and have been slaughtered for centuries. already, thereâs a problem; our legal system shouldnât have so many innocent people dying if we want to get rid of those who are evil.â
ânot only that, but the most powerful people are the largest groups of people that trust each other. in a situation of nine confused townies, three mafia and three of neither, the people who would have the most voting power are the mafia, who grant themselves three votes on a single target they donât like. and with a town like this where many have no idea whatâs going on, many people can pile their votes on the one target, thinking they could be an enemy if other people are voting. as such, the mafia only gain more power as the amount of mafia stays the same, but the amount of non-mafia becomes smaller.â
âthough that distribution is not even our current one, where the third-parties and mafia heavily outweigh the town, the 9-3-3 ratio is fairly standard. another thing thatâs inaccurate about that model is say, if two of the three third-parties are âneutrals.â if both neutrals sided with the town, there would be an 11-4 ratio in terms of townies vs. their opponents, favorable for us. however, according to you, the neutrals are our enemies as well because they can side with our opponents, and that sort of mindset doesnât necessarily get them to side with us. say that both neutrals sided with the mafia, they would make a 10-5 ratio in terms of mafia vs. their opponents, and they would only need to take down 5 people in order to actually gain equal numbers. the mafia would still be able to usurp power from us easily in only two or three days, assuming they and the opposing third-party kill in the nights between each trial and the mafia manages to lynch innocent people during the day.â
âagain, this is not only because the mafia have a greater number of people, but also because the fact our system is based on morals rather than laws makes it so that the mafia can easily kill innocent people with little to no evidence against them.â Bartholomew coughed loudly, glowering at the jailor. âare you still listening?â
