Quick test for Super Recoil, recreating some of the assets in voxel form so that we can potentially do some pseudo 3D effects while keeping a 2D feel. Follow @superrecoil if you want to stay up to date as we reveal more for the game!

Background, Sounds, and Progress!
We’ve made solid progress with the level editor and fleshing out the number of options available when building a level. We now have two sets of tiles, industrial and nature. Expect both to grow in number of tiles!
As you can see in the above image, we’ve also added parallax backgrounds, though you can’t see that depth of movement yet.
We were unable to decide on which player outline we preferred, so we asked on Twitter. The majority who saw the poll voted for #2, the smaller outline, so we’ll be moving forward using those.
Which do you prefer? Poll attached #pixelart And yes, still working on this game! (Super Recoil) pic.twitter.com/1lxZXCrZC7

Our wonderful musician Justin has created an awesome theme for use in the pre-game lobby and level builder.
Super Recoil’s lobby theme was quite a fun piece to create because I, as a composer, am completely new to the bossa nova genre as a whole. That particular aesthetic that makes the listener think, “Oh, this is definitely elevator/lounge music” seems to be rooted in the rhythm and bouncy bass lines of the piece as well as the use of 7th and 9th chords in the accompaniment to give that jazzy feel. I wanted to take some of the elementary characteristics of bossa nova and create a piece that would give off an impression of down-time, relaxation and maybe even a sense of calm before the madness that is each round of Super Recoil. One benefit of the smooth nature of bossa nova is that it’s the embodiment of easy-listening music. If one is spending ten minutes or so designing a level or waiting for a friend to return from making a sandwich, it’s important that the music complements their patience and makes the wait enjoyable. - Justin Woods
Next up we plan to focus on getting the pre-lobby and game setup working, expect updates on that soon! For now you can enjoy the static lobby mockup as seen below.
We’re still hard at work!
While we haven’t exactly been great at providing updates for Super Recoil, we are hard at work behind the scenes and will have some great stuff to show off soon-ish!
