Using Google Analytics
I would highly recommend using Google Analytics to record data about the traffic generated by you site. Google analytics has many features some of the most useful features are:
Traffic Sources: Google Analytics identifies where your sources are coming and the Operating systems they are using. It also show the amount of mobile users.
Traffic Demographic: In this section Google analytics breaks down you traffic in language spoken, country and even city. This data can be very beneficial as you can access if you are reaching the intended target audience. It also allows you to identify other sources which you may not have foreseen.
You can use the knowledge gained from the above data to alter your blog to increase engagement with your current traffic. You might also see trends in your traffic activity and use this to you advantage. i.e. if you traffic sources peak at a certain time you should post at that time to further increase activity with your posts.
Check out this video to see how to set it up on tumblr. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAAjbhS4Sn4
Have you used Prezi.com yet?
Want to stand out with you Presentation?
There is only so many things you can do with a Power Point. If you are one of 50 presentations there are only so many different background/colour/animation to choose from.
Instead you could use prezi.com https://prezi.com/
It’s perfect for a group project because anyone of the group can access the presentation and work on it.
But the most useful thing about prezi.com is that it produces a very different presentation which looks very different. It helps you stand out from the crowd.
Follow the links below for more info

How to take better Screenshots
Have you ever wanted to take a picture of an image on your screen for a presentation/email but you don’t want a screenshot of the entire screen?
There is a feature in both Windows and Apple that allows you to capture the only part of the screen you need. This is a very useful feature which I have used for every presentation in college and on a daily basis during my internship with an accounting firm.
For WINDOWS
1. Click Start button
2. In the search box, type Snipping Tool
3. click Snipping Tool
4. select area you want to capture
to save:
5. click file
6. click save as and choose you location.
Check out the link for more info:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/use-snipping-tool-capture-screen-shots#1TC=windows-7
For APPLE
Press Command-Shift-4. ...
Move the crosshair pointer to where you want to start the screenshot.
Drag to select an area. ...
When you've selected the area you want, release your mouse or trackpad button. ...
Find the screenshot as a .png file on your desktop

Save time by Organizing your emails
Are you getting 20 emails a day from social media sites and/or college?
This can be very annoying because your inbox can get flooded with useless emails and you can lose important emails.
To avoid this I use labels and filters to organize my emails by class and social media sites. I can look at my labels to see how many emails I have relating to each class or from sites such as twitter and Facebook. This allows me to easily identify important emails.
Check out this short video which shows you how to set up labels/filters on Gmail. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0T4NnFixys
It’s takes less than 3 minutes to set up but it will save you hours!
Scanning Documents on Campus at UCI
Today I needed to scan a document and send it to someone by email. After asking a few friends no one knew where to do it. The general response was “I don’t think you can.”
In my opinion the most convenient place to scan a document on campus UCI has to be the UPS store beside Wells Fargo. They charge 10 cent per scan which is reasonable and they are very helpful.
For those of you who don’t know where Wells Fargo is here is a link to Google maps: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Wells+Fargo+Bank/@33.6481474,-117.8414832,17z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0x341187f55dc1e9cb
Happy scanning :)
How to reference (APA)
Below is a link to the Purdue University's APA style guide. It is a great resource which I always rely on. The menu on the left side of the screen provides you with links to examples of how to cite different types of sources in your reference list (eg lectures, books, articles, videos, etc.). I hope you will find it useful: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/1/
Anteater Express
I’m sure most of you know by now, but for those who don’t that there are free shuttles that run from campus to all the major student housing.
There is also a shuttle (S-line) that runs from campus to Irvine Spectrum. For those of you that don’t know the Spectrum is an outdoor shopping centre with every shop you can think of in one area. It’s free to go from campus to spectrum but there is a $2 charge for the return journey.
Here is a link to their website for more info on the spectrum shopping centre: http://www.shopirvinespectrumcenter.com/
There is also the D-line that runs from campus to The District at Tustin Legacy which is another shopping centre. For more info visit their website at : http://thedistricttl.com/
Follow this link to see all the Anteater Express routes: http://www.shuttle.uci.edu/#
If you haven’t downloaded the Anteater Express Mobile app DO IT!! It gives you real time bus locations and timetables for all routes.
Uber/lyft
These apps are essential for surviving UCI without a car. They provide the same service as a taxi for less than half the price. You sign up with your credit card info and then you’re ready to go. If you want a ride then you enter you pick up and drop off locations, a price for the journey will appear and if you accept then the transaction is complete and the driver will be on their way to pick you up. They provide you with the reg number and description of the car which is very reassuring.
Welcome
Hey guys I just wanted to write a quick introduction to explain to you what this blog is about. As you can guess from the title this blog will focus on student life at UC Irvine. I will provide tips from my experience at UCI as an international student. I will also share tips that I was given from local students who have been studying at UCI for a number of years. I will cover topics such as money, cooking, social life and things to do while you are here. Hope you enjoy it.
