THIS was my backyard in my peaceful home on the Space Coast that I shared with my Yorkie , Prince Charming, my constant companion that moved with me every couple of years as I followed the contract jobs.
My career turned to contracting after my kids grew up, graduated from college, married, moved away, and Prince was the last dog after all the other pets passed away.
I rented 3-bedroom homes so my sons and daughters-in-law could stay with me when visiting, but eventuallly, they visited less and less, or stayed in hotels for privacy, so I downsized to the little house I'm renting now with the big, fenced yard for my current Yorkies, Charlie Brown and Teddy Bear.
When Prince died, I didn't think I'd ever have a dog again, I grieved him so hard. It had just been the two of us for so long. But, I couldn't live without a dog, and so brought Charlie Brown home, and a few months later, the family called to say their dogs had another litter, and one little boy looked like Charlie! So, Teddy Bear joined us.
Of course, I didn't know I'd get sick, laid off, and end up using a cane, making it difficult to walk them.
At my age, and with the health issues I now have, I probably wouldn't have brought two puppies home if I'd had a glimpse of the future, but I'm glad I didn't know, because I need them in my life.
There is no love and companionship on earth like that of a dog, and with these two little ones, I have a purpose and reason to get out of bed every morning.
The job for which I recently moved no longer existed when I arrived in Orlando. After months of not being able to find another, and a dwindling savings account, I finally took early retirement.
I'll probably have to downsize again at the end of this lease if I don't find some kind of paying work, soon, even part-time, but I can no longer do the physical retail work I did in high school and through college and continued to do between techncial writing contracts.
Things will work out. They always do. Just when I think I've lost all hope, God gives me the strength and new opportunities to survive and thrive.
I'll find a job or two soon, and the next home may be even smaller, but with a fenced yard for my dogs to run free.
Maybe I'll even come out of retirement for a great new career I can work from home! There are all possibilities in this lifetime, when you least expect them, and when things are the gloomiest.
God always sends me Angels to help me through, and I always eventually find good-paying work again.
You are NOT your career. Take stock of all your skills and talents and hobbies and all you can do. You may even find a paying job of a type you never expected but fell into.
One can never give up!
Or STOP trusting God.
