If you want to hear me talk about the LRA and Joseph Kony and the whole Stop Kony phenomenon while watching the Swindon Town Swoodilypoopers PLAY THEIR BEST GAME OF THE SEASON*, that is now possible.

A recent NY Times blog post about the situation in Syria, the perceived stakes, and possible action.
Helpful resource for getting a broad view of the history of Nepal, and also an update on the situation since John told us about it in 2007. In re John's January 4 2007 video, http://dft.ba/-nepal .
Apologies for my stunned silence in the face of the Kony 2012 movement and the internet’s explosion of power. I’ve never felt like the whole internet has simultaneously pushed down the same keys at the same time. Not even the response to SOPA made...
If I knew how to reblog the entirety of these posts I'd do that. I'm not going to post on this issue till there's been a video addressing it, but I thought I'd reblog these posts because they, too, discuss the problem of sustained attention.
The wikipedia article on Syria's decades-long occupation of Lebanon, which John discussed in his March 6 2012 vlogbrothers video, here http://dft.ba/-syria. It's not a particularly extensive article, but it helpfully links to some of the figures John mentioned in his video and whose names I could not spell well enough to google.
John's video in which he discusses the problem of sustained attention on the internet.
A Beginning
About three minutes ago I had an idea- to start a blog that will pay sustained attention to the social/political/economic events the vlogbrothers discuss- and here I am acting on it. That kind of immediacy is both a wonderful thing about the internet and one of its most depressing drawbacks. It's really easy to start things and to be inspired by big ideas, but we're not great at follow through.
That said, I think the community that exists around Hank and John's videos can be different. We are a community that is curious and inspired and determined, and I think that with the right resources we can also be persistent.
So what I'm going to do is start trying to collect articles and blog posts and videos about the issues Hank and John have discussed over the years they've been vlogging. I'm going to try to post a couple every day, and to have a mix of things that are timely and things that provide good background. With apologies to every professor I have ever had, there is probably going to be a fair amount of wikipedia.
Also, I'm going to be wrong some. I am probably not going to fact-check or source everything I post here. What I want to do is create a way for myself and others to be engaged in the long term, and to that end I welcome corrections and criticisms of my sources. This is a jumping off place.
I need to get better at tumblr, but I'd like to have submissions and maybe also asks suggesting topics from past videos? Unlike many nerdfighters I am not full time internet, so I'll be very appreciative of any help you can give me!
And while I've wished there was a resource like this for quite a while, the name of the tumblr and the immediate action is very much inspired by John's recent hankgames video, which I will link to or something when I learn how to do that.
