Today the Department of Beguiling Book Art explores the enchanting creations of Tokyo-based artist and designer Tomoko Takeda. For a series entitled ものがたりの断片 (Story Fragments) Takeda transformed famous books into beautiful graphic representations of their literary contents, enticing the viewer to seek out an uncut copy for reading.

Pictured here are The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Two Years’ Vacation by Jules Verne, Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, I Am a Cat by Natsume Sōseki, Night on the Galactic Railroad by Miyazawa Kenji, The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank, and The Spider’s Thread and Other Stories by Akutagawa Ryūnosuke.
