hitting return early on libby when there's people waiting and feeling like a benevolent queen distributing alms to the poor
Dust if you must, by Rose Milligan (September 1998)
Dust if you must, but wouldn't it be better
To paint a picture, or write a letter,
Bake a cake, or plant a seed;
Ponder the difference between want and need?
Dust if you must, but there's not much time,
With rivers to swim, and mountains to climb;
Music to hear, and books to read;
Friends to cherish, and life to lead.
Dust if you must, but the world's out there
With the sun in your eyes, and the wind in your hair;
A flutter of snow, a shower of rain,
This day will not come around again.
Dust if you must, but bear in mind,
Old age will come and it's not kind.
And when you go (and go you must)
You, yourself, will make more dust.
You can and should write fanfiction that isn't perfect. You can and should write whatever fanfiction you want. You can and should write fanfiction that brings you joy even if it's silly or goofy or weird.
Except for me. My fanfic has to be perfect and read like a novel and ruin at least one person's sleep schedule.
Divination with Lavender and Parvati
current fan creation landscape is kinda like if you went to a party with a homemade cake and everyone takes a slice and silently thumbs up at you with no attempt to start a conversation except for occasionally some guy sits in the corner with a tape recorder critiquing the cake as though he was a restaurant critic and another guy is handing the cake to an uber driver like "yeah i need you to find a restaurant that makes cake like this so i can have more of it" and the only person that's talked to you in 30 minutes is a very sweet little guy who was like "hey i liked your cake" and then ran away apologizing for bothering you the moment you said thank you.
someone brought a cake analysis robot to feed the cake into to determine the exact ingredients and supposedly it can spit out the exact same cake. and if you're like dude. what. then they're like well if it bothers you you should have made more cake. i'm hungry and i deserve cake. and you're like dude we're at a party.
Three months later you find out that fifty people locked themselves in a room to discuss how much they loved your cake and how they wished you made more. None of them ever told you.
so for the love of god. please tell people you liked their cake and don’t feel embarrassed about it. because then they will make more cake.
Hi, as you already know, I'm a big fan of all your work. You are a wonderful writer, and I am very glad that you are writing about my favorite ships. I once read a work with a very sad ending, Hermione died, Harry avenged her and got his natural ending. It was very hard and intense when Harry loses the most precious person he had, the only constant that has always been around. I've noticed that in most cases you write your stories from Hermione's perspective. Have you thought about writing a story by shifting your focus to Harry?
Thanks for your kind words. I'm glad you enjoy my works. I feel like I've written a lot from Harry's POV 😅
My longest completed story Maybe Tomorrow is entirely his perspective, same with my series Seasons and my shorter fic Opals and Mistletoe. In my other longer stories it alternates POV. Only my two recent stories In Between and Breathe are entirely Hermione, and neither are very long!
I do miss writing his POV, but I really don't have any plans to start anything new right now and want to focus on finishing Breathe and possibly also In Between. Though writing is slow and I really have no idea if I'll ever be posting on any kind of regular schedule again. At least not in 2025!
never underestimate the power of:
• eating fruits and veggies
• going outside
• opening your windows and letting the fresh air in
• cuddling with your pet
• catching up with your sibling or parent
• complimenting someone you don’t know
• exercising
• journaling
• cleaning out your fridge and cabinets
• listening to happy music
• putting yourself first
• making and eating a home cooked meal
• washing the dishes/putting the dishes away
• washing/brushing your hair
You are worthy

Can i say something problematique for terminally online millenials and people born after that point: I think the seeming lack of ability or willingness to call one another and chat on the phone with friends unprompted or out of the blue contributes to whatever hellish loneliness everyone is talking about feeling these days. Say what you want about boomers and old people but those guys mostly knew how to keep in touch with each other. Idk man call a bitch today
One of my fav movies ever.
a writing competition i was going to participate in again this year has announced that they now allow AI generated content to be submitted
their reasoning being that "we couldn't ban it even if we wanted to, every writer already uses it anyway"
"Every writer"?
come on
Reblog if you're a writer who doesn't use AI.
We open each meeting by asking a simple question: What is keeping you alive today? This allows us to revel in the sometimes small motions that get us to the Next Thing. Yes, I did not want to get out of bed this morning, but there was one single long shard of sunlight that stumbled in through a tear in my curtains, and the warmth of it hitting my arm got me to that first hour of living. There was my dog, who, on the mornings I do not want to get out of bed, will rest silently at my feet and wait for me to slowly emerge from under the covers, and seeing her reminds me that I do, in fact, have only one lifetime in which I can love this animal. As far as I know, we will love each other only here, for a while, and that is worth seeing what I can make out of a few hours, even when I’m wrecked with despair.
Hanif Abdurraqib, In Defense of Despair
into the deep end
“I think,” Padma says slowly. “I think you’re pregnant.”
A one-night stand leaves Hermione Granger pregnant, Harry Potter crazy protective, and a world in chaos with curiosity.
