the mused words that the woman spoke had hamish chuckling lightly, a thick brow raising as he peered toward her. “you speak as though you know my mind better than i.” he teased, a smirk then settling on his face. “i see my reputation precedes me.” hamish chuckles again. “now that would be telling.” he smirks, shooting a quick wink in her direction.

Eyes follow him closely, knowing all too well that she was correct in her assumption. “I am good at distinguishing things -- besides, Lady Whistledown is a credible source.” She teased, amusement in her tone.

a light laugh passed hamish’s lips in response to the princess’ comment, arching a brow at her. she had fire, she would certainly be fun to spend time with. licking his lips, the man then combed a large hand back through dark, curly locks, pushing then away from his face as he eyed her. “that was not the case at all. i had intended on spending my time with a princess, you just so happened to be among the most breathtaking of them all.” when it came to charming women, hamish had it down to a tee. he liked to think he knew exactly what a woman liked to hear, and that they would love to hear it coming from his mouth. of course, he knew he was blessed with the way he looked, that much was obvious from how easy it was for him to take a woman to bed. but.. with a princess.. he knew it would likely be a little more difficult. “did i disappoint you? was there another you would have preferred to spend your day with?” he asked, tipping his head to the side a little, studying her.

The festivities, and incentive to make an impression was growing tiresome. She was doing her best to uphold the desirable traits, in hope of gaining the attentions of a man whom shared similar values. At present however, it deemed useless. “How many times have you used that line on a lady?” She retorted, eyes rolling as she withheld the inevitable scoff that would follow. She did not believe a word that he spoke, knowing she would be foolish to do so. “My sisters are equally breath taking, I believe you are misinformed.” She shrugged, raising the glass to her lips with a sigh. “I would not say I am disappointed, perhaps I am a little wiry from my trip -- I apologise if I am coming off as hostile.” She admitted, knowing she was perhaps not being as hospitable as she normally would.

a chuckle left the man, a shrug then following. "a few. though, most ladies fall at my feet without me even having to open my mouth." hamish admits with yet another shrug of his shoulders. the man then casts a glance toward the princess, listening again as she continued to speak. "i did not say that your sisters were not breathtaking, merely that you were my favourite." he teased, shooting a quick wink toward the beauty. as the woman then apologised, hamish couldn't stop another chuckle from leaving his mouth. "no need to apologise, your majesty. i did not find it to be hostile. besides, i do so enjoy when women have a little fire." he complimented, following suit in lifting his glass to his lips.

andrew let out a deep chuckle and nodded slowly. "yes that is my type, though many in town is considered my type for it doesn't truly have a limit these days," he smirked as he continued to listen. "ahh yes miss kapoor, i've run into her a few times here and there and always found her to be quite a gem." andrew thought back to the last time he had run into her and grinned wickedly. "i'm sure if we work together we can have her breathless and willing before she knows it."

the idea of the two of them working together had hamish tipping his head to the side and narrowing his eyes, thinking for a moment. a smirk then crosses his face, a hand stretching out toward his friend. "that sounds like a deal to me."

as he inquired about her expectations, amelie could not help but laugh softly, nodding in silent agreement. “i must admit, i didn’t anticipate it would be you,” she confessed, her fingers still playing with the edge of the ribbon on the picnic basket. “but, i’m glad it is. it’s a pleasant surprise, and I couldn’t have asked for better company,” she added warmly. “i can only hope that i’ve brought enough food and drink that you enjoy…i may have gone a little overboard in my worry to ensure you liked it.” she admitted, a light pink dusting her cheeks as she looked to the basket.

it was just his luck that hamish had won three of the five baskets he had bid on, and the fact that two of which belonged to princesses, that was just a bonus. he knew that the woman would likely be wondering why he would bid on her basket having never met her before, and he would likely make up something charming on the spot to make her swoon. the man knew he was being bold, but most women liked it when men were forward.. right? as he exited the building, hamish then began to look for the woman. eventually he managed to find her, recognising her face. she was breathtakingly beautiful, and he wasted no time in drinking in the sight of her. “your majesty.” he offered a slight bow of his head. “hamish mccarthy.. at your service.” licking his lips, he then took a seat on the blanket, keeping his gaze firmly locked on the turkish princess.

"she seems to be rather an innocent one.. exactly your type, or so i have heard. i would so adore tainting that innocence, if you catch my drift." a smirk crossed the man's face. "her name is priya kapoor.. she has beauty beyond words. she will be a difficult catch but.. one that i am determined to have nonetheless."

The bids had been announced, and the name in which captured her own was unfamiliar. The dark, broodish man who stood before her, she was intrigued to know who he was, and his motives and intentions. Once bids had ceased, she prepared her blanket, placing it strategically under a tree to gain some shade. In her basket, was well presented delicacies, including chocolate covered strawberries, breakfast pastries such as croissants, and some cold fresh lemonade

She pressed out the creases in her dress, waiting crossed kneed on the blanket, fingers fumbling slightly in anticipation.

Dressed in an elegant maroon gown adorned with delicate lace and intricate embroidery, Amelie was the picture of grace and sophistication,  long brown hair cascading down her shoulders in loose waves. Though she was taken aback by the winner of her basket being Hamish, she was relieved that it was not a stranger. The idea of sitting for a meal with someone making idle chitchat until it was finished seemed uncomfortable, though she had assumed Arthur would be the one she was sitting beside the lake waiting for. 

The picnic basket, made of woven wicker and adorned with a ribbon in a complementary red to match her dress, was filled with delectable treats fit for the most discerning of palates. She had carefully selected a selection of cheeses and fruits, artfully arranged on a wooden board, which served as both a feast for the eyes and the taste buds. A bottle of sparkling champagne, nestled in a silver bucket filled with ice, awaited to be uncorked and enjoyed. And a small plate of delicate pastries and small cakes, her own personal favourite, were arranged on small plates beside her.

Looking to the basket Amelie couldn’t help but fiddle with the edge of the ribbon, a nervousness coming about her all of a sudden as she awaited her companions arrival.

truth be told, hamish had put in bids for a number of different baskets for the fun of it. but, for amelie.. it had been his way of keeping her away from the man she was courting. it was not out of jealousy, like one could possibly thing, it was out of his own disliking for the man. ever since the day he walked in to find amelie in tears over the man, her heart shattered I to pieces, hamish had vowed to keep her from further harm by arthur’s hand. hence, the reason he had been so hell bent on winning her basket.

the man, clad in his usual dark trouser and blazer combination, made his way toward the site in which he had agreed to meet amelie. he hadn’t managed to get a peek at what she’d decided to put in her basket, so he truly had no idea what he was in for. seeing her, he smiled. she was the picture of perfection in her maroon gown, her brunette locks pulled back from her face allowing him to fully drink in the beauty of her features. “amelie..” hamish smiled wider, walking toward her. he stretched out his hand toward her, wanting to greet her properly with a kiss to her knuckles, but not wanting to do so without her consent. “you look breath taking as always..” he said, his attention then moving to the basket. “i assume you were not expecting myself to be here with you?” he questioned her, arching a brow.

I was wondering if you would be willing to do a little investigatory work into the matter, for a fee, of course.”

brows raised in response to the male’s comment, licking his lips. “discretion is my middle name.” hamish says, the words a light hearted joke to cut through the tension. as the other spoke once again, he nodded his head slowly, taking in the details. “perhaps you better come into my office.” hamish spoke, guiding the other into the back room. taking a seat at his desk, he grabbed a quill, dabbing it in the ink pot and beginning to note down the previous details the gentleman told him. “we can discuss the fee at a later date. for now, would you like to take a seat and give me a few further details.. your name perhaps, and that of your brother.. your family..” quill at the ready, hamish peered toward the other man expectantly.

ocean hues immediately moved down as he felt the warmth of her delicate touch. lips pressed together for a moment, until he then peered back up toward amelie. as she spoke his name, he met her gaze, keeping his lips pursed as she continued to speak. the words she spoke made him smile, warmth spreading through his chest. he knew that she appreciated him, but hearing her say it with such sincerity was something that truly made him feel content. ever since he was young, hamish had been a rake. it was a lifestyle choice, and one that he couldn’t see himself straying from. in all his years, through his every conquest, there had never been one that could truly make him feel something like amelie did.

he noticed the tears welling in her eyes and tightened his grasp on her hand, his other then moving to join. he sighed softly, then began to speak, his words showing a shred of humility and vulnerability in this moment. “amelie, from the moment i found you wandering through the woods following the escape of the century.. i knew i would do absolutely anything in my power to protect you. in an instant, that became my sole purpose.. it became the only thing that mattered. you became the only thing that mattered.” hamish spoke, his grasp on her hand remaining tight. “no matter what happens in your future, wherever you go, what ever you do.. if you ever need me, i will drop everything to be there in a flash. that is a promise.” he concludes with a light squeeze of her hand.

"thank you, hamish. your unwavering support means the world to me. i don’t know what i would do without you by my side. you’ve always been there for me, and i cannot express how much that means to me.” in a way she couldn’t express how much he meant to her. he was unwavering in his support, even after her parents stopped providing him with the financial support once they arrived in london. his kind heart and good nature was something that helped amelie believe in humanity once more, something she had not thought possible for so many years locked away in darkness.

there had been many moments of such between the two beings. with amelie, vulnerable and bundled in his strong grasp, with arms wrapped around her petite frame and her body cradled tightly, as though his hold on her could protect her from any such pain that was thrown her way. from the close proximity he shared with the woman, hamish could hear her take a deep, shaky, breath. all he wanted in that moment was to be able to take away her pain, to dry her tears and to make her feel okay. then, as she began to speak, he pulled back a little, peering down into her chocolate hues. he purses his lips, listening as she speaks, allowing her to speak her mind before having his own input. “amelie.. being in love is the most frightening thing in the world. when you fall in love, the very depths of your soul are bared for the other person to see.. of course, that can cause immense pain should something go wrong but.. being truly, deeply in love, that should be a feeling worth all the pain.” hamish spoke, a soft smile quirking at the corners of his mouth.

the smile widens a little as she speaks, and hamish reaches a large hand forward, brushing a stray tear from the woman’s cheek, before then tucking a couple brunette locks behind her ear. “do not think about that. because there will never be a time when i am not here for you, when i am not by your side. i may have made a promise to your parents when they tasked me to find you but.. that contract was over a long time ago. i know how much you still need me, and how i need you too.” he spoke sincerely, peering down at her once again as his hand then retracts from her face. “i promised i would do my very best to keep you out of harm’s way, and i will do that. but, i cannot do the same for your heart.. that is your job.” he nod’s his head once in conclusion.

as the woman spoke, hamish’s eyes narrowed, studying her. “it seems only fair that since you know my name, you should tell me yours.” charm was laced in his tone, his eyes flicking to settle on her plump lips for a mere moment, to then move back to her eyes, keeping his ocean hues situated there.

hamish was sat at his desk, quill in hand as he worked on one of his cases. the tell tale sound of someone entering the office had him then raising from his seat, moving out into the foyer, eyeing the man who stood in the doorway. eyes narrowed as the other spoke, and hamish’s arms then raised, wrapping over his broad chest. “is that so.. and who might you be?” he asked, brows raising, hoping for some sort of hint as to who this man thought he was walking into his office, without an appointment no less, and demanding to speak with him.

He should have known, a male so self consumed that he did not hold the slightest inkling of who he was. “I am sure we can skip decencies -- I am Arthur, which I am sure you are aware as you are extremely close to Amelie.” He scoffed, eyes rolling. He needed to know the males intentions , he would have nothing less than loyalty for the female, and did not wish to see her get hurt or taken advantage of.

with arms wrapped over his chest, hamish eyed the man, trying to find some recognition for him. however, as soon as the man spoke amelie’s name, then his own, he nodded slowly, inhaling a sharp breath. “so you’re the bastard that broke her heart, huh?” hamish scoffed. “and to what do i owe the pleasure of a visit from you?”
